For the most part, the fifth day of the expedition had seen steady progress through the great forest. At the current rate they were travelling, they’d be able to make it to the mountain ranges by nightfall in order to make camp. Besides a skirmish here or there, they had been lucky enough not to encounter Titan hordes.

was part of the vanguard, who had been given orders to travel the last stretch via the 3-Dimensional Maneuver Gear, rather than by horseback. They needed speed and flexibility for this last distance, and wouldn’t take any chances in securing their base camp. They were to scout ahead and clear out any stray Titans that had wandered into the desired location - highly unlikely due to the tricky terrain.

Nobody anticipated any major setbacks, and during a short pit stop some chattered about hoping to rest easy that night.

just gritted his teeth as he listened to the members talk. Somehow he just didn’t think any of them had earned the right to rest easy at all. The others looked up every now and then, seemingly keeping an eye on him. But most of the other soldiers had known him since the trainee days - they knew him as taciturn and had come to expect to withdraw sometimes, from these little discussions they had.

straps on his 3DMG as they prepare to set out again. They are full speed ahead, expertly weaving through trees, enormous redwoods that could dwarf city buildings. He’s one of the more skilled users of the gear, among those leading the pack, so when he starts to lose speed, he knows something is up.

His gas reserves? Was the 3DMG running on nearly empty? He pulls the trigger for a simple upward thrust. He is boosted upwards, but not as much as he’d been used to.

As he’s preoccupied, his comrades have swooped below him, choosing to advance closer to ground level. His gear begins sputtering and he realizes this is it, he’s going to stall out right here and now if he doesn’t do something -

He shouts out as he aims his hooks for two trees up ahead. Thankfully, one embeds itself neatly into the bark just as the gas chamber hisses its last. The recoil is terrible, and

is whipped around, slamming gracelessly into the tree.

The wind is knocked out of him as he coughs out,

”Hey! I need a lift”

to the nearest soldier. The other soldiers have gathered around, but none of them look surprised. In fact, some of them look guilty. Nobody moves to help him. His expression slowly changes with an inkling of realization.

”Which one of you did it?”

shouts accusingly as he hangs there.

”Which one of you swapped out my gas reserves?”

”Sorry, man,”

says one, a soldier with a dark, scarred face.

”We’ve decided you’ve compromised the cause. You’re not continuing with us.”

With that, someone slashes the cable that is fastening

to the tree. There is nothing to keep him from the 10-story drop to the forest floor below.

Ten stories is a long way to fall. It gives him a long time to think, though really he doesn’t want to think at all. He’s just tired, terribly tired. He knows he won’t survive.


Images of a sleepy little village flood over him, washing out the last vision of his comrades looking down at him as he hurtles towards death. Golden fields… green hills. It had been awhile.

“I really… just wanted to go home… one more time.”

He awakes to a screeching metallic noise in the middle of the night. Instinctively he bolts out of bed, rushing out of his tent. There are others woken around him, but they are slower, putting on their clothes, rubbing their eyes.

Just outside their base camp he spots the remnants of a red signal flare descending among the treetops. The night watch must have encountered something while making their rounds. But what was that noise?

He dashes inside only to put on his maneuver gear, barking some orders to his tent mates, then sets out in the direction of the flare.

It's only a couple minutes before he reaches a clearing with a dense swarm of Titans. In the center are several harpoon barrels - the detonation must have been the screeching sound he heard. But it doesn't look like it was used correctly - normally those mechanisms were intended for a single Titan, using dozens of taut wire to freeze the monster in place. But here it looks like several Titans had all been shot with some wire, but not enough to hold any of them down. As a result the monsters were flailing around, threatening to tear free of the restraints.

He scans the area, boosting over to the two sentries at the base of one tree. Both are wounded - not badly enough to abandon, but bad enough that they couldn't move immediately by themselves.

"What the hell happened? We need to get you out of here!"

"We think... it was an Aberrant leading them here... they'd never come this way otherwise..."

He scowled. They would be okay for now, but not when the Titans broke free. And where were the reinforcements?

He jumps into the fray, attempting to pick off the stragglers when it seemed safe. There were shouts approaching from base camp - the other soldiers?

"You guys need to move those two away from here right now!! I'll try to thin the horde!"

"

KAGAMI

!! BEHIND YOU!"

He barely turns to see the Titan swiping at him, claws digging into his abdomen. He suddenly can't breathe as a comrade grabs onto him, hurtling towards safety with the monster on their heels. His eyes swim as the trees fly by - back to base camp?

"I'm bleeding all over you,"

Kagami

says dumbly to his comrade. He can't think of anything else to say at the moment. He hopes his entrails aren't falling out of his skin.

"Shut up, I'm taking you to a medic,"

they reply gruffly.

"Don't bother,"

he says absently.

"Screw you, man,"

the soldier bites out bitterly.

"This is what you get for trying to be a hero."

lol...just kidding. You rx'ed my msg. So either my ability is completely worthless (at catching scum) and both scum and town can get my words of encouragement or RBD is confirmed town. I'm betting it's the former, but either way, I had RBD as a town read till they didn't get my msg anyway so w/e. That and if they WERE scum, they would have hammered their scum buddy yesterday for scum points.

I'll probably just sheep RBD today and let the win/loss be on their shoulders.

As for who is more likely scum between BRO and displaced...I have no clue. BRO should be town as I don't see why I would be stricken with grief if he died and flipped scum, but you never know.

Displaced has been on both scum lynches this game which should mean town points, but both were hammers.

It's a coin toss for me really but I'd prolly lean on displaced being scum over BRO due to PR wording and flavor.

Neither have been instrumental in lynching either of the scum though BRO voted Pasche early yesterday and stuck with it even when I went after RBD pretty hard.
