(well, probably. I don't actually know Riot's release schedule but it would be strange as fuck for them to release her now).

actually, i think i'd be okay if it scrolled down as easily as it scrolls the other directions...

it should scroll down just as easily. I've never felt it scrolled at a different speed per direction, at least.

i find at times if i forget to lock my cursor to one monitor it scrolls in the direction of my second monitor (left) significantly slower as my mouse desperately tries to break free of the games grip
nobody breaks free of this games grip

After roughly 3 months of practicing against bots and the occasional normal game, I'm finally getting the hang of it. Went 3-1 with normals today, winning against a unranked, Bronze 3 and Silver 3 and losing against a Gold 3.
My first game was mid: Ahri vs Akali. I controlled the lane pretty well but didn't get many kills despite feeling I should have in a matchup against Akali. When it came to roaming and teamfighting I pretty much stomped and ended the game 10-2-12. My farm was okay, though I had a tough time figuring out what items were best to buy for her. I rushed Tear, Haunting Guise and Sorc Shoes, then went for Zhonya's and Void. I maxed Q first, which is the correct thing to do right? I'm unsure what to build on Ahri, I just know she's strong enough to stomp mid lane against most others.
My second game was top: Nasus vs Nasus. This ended up pretty much being a farmfest. I managed to farm better and while he somehow bought things like Averice Blade, I rushed Frozen Heart and proceeded to stomp him 3-0 during the laning phase, while my team was losing. In teamfights, I went out of position on purpose to catch all the cc to let my team clean up, which is why we eventually managed. They were full AD, so I built Frozen Heart, Trinity Force, Frozen Mallot and Sunfire, with Mercs for tenacity. I maxed E first which seemed to be the best call, maxing Q last. Went 14-1-6 and won it for our team.
My third game was mid: Morgana vs Veigar. I played a passive lane first, bought Chalice, then proceeded to push the lane under the tower after that. I never got a blue while he got it three times but I still won. I rushed Athene's and Zhonya's, followed it up with Sorcs, Rabadon's and Void, then proceeded to crush teamfights by flashing in and ulting, hitting a lot of people. Our Vayne and I pretty much carried this game where I went 10-2-15. But omg, everytime he stunned, I used my E and nulled all the damage he put out. I maxed W first, E second and Q last.
My fourth game was mid: Cassio vs Nidalee. I got stomped this game. They managed to invade and kill our Skarner, giving our blue to Nidalee, who proceeded to spear me to death. I had to back every time and I managed to win a trade only once. My CS was okay, but they were simply better. I went 1-4-3 mainly because of the damn spears. I had no real chance to buy any items and mainly bought MR against Nid, who still managed to chunk 90% of my health with every spear. Then again, I don't feel bad losing against a Gold 3.
I'm considering finally going to play ranked. I have managed to cs pretty ok, but I'm still unsure what role I want to play. I like playing Support, but I feel like I have so little impact over the game's outcome, even when I ward correctly. When I support, I do play agressive which has managed to get my carry some kills from time to time, but everything relies on the other time instead of me. I tend to play Sona or Zyra when supping, and knowing when to use my ulti tends to help me win these games.
I like playing Mid as well, but I feel it gets called mostly and unless I'm quick, I won't play. Despite that, I do feel my mid game is okay. Ganks are usually unsuccessful on me because I invest a lot in wards (only died once during the four games from ganks, and even then I managed to trade 1-1 with the other mid), and I manage not to feel a whole lot by playing defensively unless I feel I can push by having an advantage. I tend to play mage mids like Morgana, Lux or Gragas and burst players down.
I find playing Top tough, because it isn't really an all in lane and it's more a poking war, which I'm not as good at. I tend to get destroyed against characters like Renekton, Riven and Darius. When I play top, I usually play Nasus, Malphite or Zac, building tank and playing defensively.
I dislike playing Jungle, but sometimes get forced into the role because people don't want to play it. I find ganking really hard, mainly because people usually have no idea if people warded, and they walk away when I come close. But when I don't gank, people bitch and complain they don't get ganks and are losing because of it, which is my main distaste of playing the role because people always blame you for losing (when I feel like, if you lose your lane, it's your own god damn fault). When I jungle, I tend to play Zac, Amumu or Shyvana.
I feel impartial about playing ADC. I can CS pretty good even when pushed under the tower, but playing ADC is so boring. And being the focus of damage in teamfights and being dead soon in teamfights also discourages me from time to time. I usually play MissFortune, Tristana or Urgot.
Anyway, long story tl;dr. What advice can you guys give me when I want to start playing soloQ ranked. What's the best approach to playing ranked, esp the qualifying matches? I'm honestly scared to play ranked because I feel like I might get stomped, which is why I held off playing normals so long;

the best approach to playing ranked is to realize that you suck and will likely get stomped, and that it isnt actually a big deal
#1 goal should be learning ways to play better (study your own mistakes)

Don't focus on one role, you won't get to play it every time. It'll probably become apparent to you once you start playing ranked what your 'main' is you should try to call, but you have to be able to accept playing at least 4 roles (and if only 4 both support and jungle is ideal, as you'll get forced to play them the most). Also, don't play Urgot.
And like JD said, it's not that big a deal. If you screw up your placements you'll just have to climb a bit more, but you'll get to the right place eventually and keep going up so long as you keep improving.

False.
I have had periods of insane winrates as Urgot because people don't know how he works.

"don't play x" is awful advice
if you are a fking godlike urgot and mediocre at everything else, you're going to win more games playing urgot even though he's "weak" than you will playing a "strong" pick and not knowing the champion's mechanics

it definitely 100% doesn't scroll as well down as left right or up. in fact, the only way I can reliably seem to make it scroll down is to use the arrow keys or click on the minimap.

I click the minimap when I want to check a lane, but if I'm looking ahead in mine I scroll it.

that does not help me.

apparently it's related to it being in windowed mode? That sucks. hate playing full screen.

possible solution wrote:The reason why you can't scroll down in windowed mode is because of your resolution. The default resolution makes it so the windowed mode is actually larger than the screen of your computer (or laptop). To solve this, you need to change your resolution to the resolution right below the first resolution option (In other worlds, change your video resolution to the second option). This will make your window a bit smaller but you will be able to scroll down if you do this.

okay, i'll try that.

switched to borderless and it works just fine. makes not using the tracking much much easier. i was going nuts.

I can't play in windowed mode. If the game isn't full-screen I just can't deal with it >.>

1) Pick a champ with CC
2) Win your lane/be ahead of the enemy jungler
3) Take the outer towers
4) Group up and push you advantage to take objectives.
Don't worry about split push
In post 23743, PJ. wrote:Not sure why everyone who is Gold+ offers the same bad advice to Low Silver and Bronze players. They've heard "Call MIAs, Place wards, position better and last hit" literally 1000s of times and that isn't working for them. Because they don't know how to gain and use advantages reliably.
A) Do not support, ever. In low elo play you are better off playing a non-support champ bot lane and trying to get fed without CS early in the game. Your team won't use the things you give them as a support, so don't put yourself in a position to be octopussed.
B) Prioritize objectives. Win a fight get an objective, Always. Clear out bot lane in laning phase? Get drag. Kill mid? get drag. This where you should empty out your pings, go back to the ping store, buy more pings and empty at all of those.
C) This is optional, but using a late game scaling champ is preferable because it enables you to carry harder. But what isn't optional is understanding your strat. Are you Renekon? Then farming for 15 minutes and not killing the enemy laner isn't gonna help your stupid crocodile ass when the enemy laner outscales you. Are you Cho? Then don't fight before 3-4, you'll die so you can't dominate the mid game and tank through the late game.
D) Pick a champ with CC and encourage everyone on your team to do the same. CC dominates teamfights and being the better teamfighting team gives you the edge in low-mid elo.
E) Are you worse than your lane opponent? If no, play aggressive and put him behind. If yes, try to play safe and don't continuously die. If that means letting some farm go and trying to freeze lane near tower, do it. DO NOT DIE. Someone on your team is likely better than his laner and his laner won't play safe so your teammate will get fed. You being underfarmed but properly leveled makes you easier to carry then being underleveled, underfarmed, and your laner being ahead in those aspects. Nothing in this game is better than 0 deaths coming out of lane
F) DO NOT DITCH YOUR TEAM IN TEAMFIGHTS
G) IF YOU ARE AN ADC, SHOOT YOUR FUCKING BULLETS.
H) You're the most important person on your team because that's the only person you can make do the right thing.
I) Do not say deliberately negative things to your team, it actually does make them play worse. "I'm absolutely not supporting" is fine. "Fuck you, fuck your mother, I'm not supporting" is not fine. If possible, try to be clear if you give your teammates advice. "Sona, I need you to stand in front of me, instead of behind me, because it provides more lane prescence that way."
preferably don't give your teammates advice.
In post 23191, PJ. wrote:
Second, what I noticed when I was during my descent, if you don't feed, and group right after laning phase, you'll have a much better chance of placing higher. So don't focus on getting kills in lane, focus on not dying in lane. Cause A) you might trick someone into being overaggressive and feeding you and B) If some of your teammates win their lanes it'll be easier for them to carry you at 0/0 then it would be to carry you at 0/2.

thanks, Panz. I appreciate it. Sometimes I feel like I'm translating out of old english with this game... it's not exactly light on jargon.

So I'm slowly coming to the realization that Swain is sleeper OP. 2 CC (slow and stun), huge lane sustain, relatively low CDs, powerful ult.
Edit: Like if I have blue midgame I can literally kill someone with one combo (and he's not a "bursty" mid). Even if I have to turret dive them. And still come out of it with like half HP.

Swain has a really strong mid-game if he can keep blue buff on him, then falls off insanely hard. His scaling numbers just aren't good :/
