1. This is my first online game, but I have played a few times in RL, though without as many people, and without being as competitive.
2. Quite often, but it depends on how frequently other people post.
3. I have no opinion, as this is my first "real" game.
4. Again, similar to number three, I have no answer.

Oh, just watch. The level of participation slacks off by the end of D1 if we don't lynch people within a week -_-.

EVERY SINGLE TIME, I TELL YOU! EVERY! SINGLE! DAMN (pardon)! TIME!

1. *looks at join date*
2. I post as often as possible.
3. I'm a little vexed if they just looking at the game and not commentating (I do this too, though), and VERY annoyed if you're asked questions and don't have a V/LA to justify you being away. DO NOT DO THE LATTER.

I don't like the idea of a RVS vote either, so I'll answer the questions too.

1) This is *technically* my first game on the site, and I've only played IRL like one or two times. So yeah.
2) As I have no life, I will likely be checking this frequently. I work nights, though, so I'm not likely to post at night unless I'm off work. As far as posting goes, that will depend on if I feel I have something to add, so idk.
3) Personally, I think the idea of lurking looks scummy, especially if I see that the person has been reading the thread but has not been posting. However, I do not thing it is a definite scumtell.
4) I can't legitimately answer this as I don't know yet.

And I'll ask a few questions of my own:
1) Is there a role that you prefer to play in a game? You don't have to tell me what that role is, though it'd be nice XD
2) Are you happy with the role you have?

My boyfriend is on the site too and he used these questions as an opener to one of his games and this got the discussion going so there wasn't a RVS. So I thought I'd borrow them.

Anyway, I look forward to playing with each of you and learning from you.

Never been a fan of random questions since I find them kinda boring, and I don't think they're very alignment revealing but I'll humor ya.

- I've been playing Mafia for 5 years now (wow, I just thought about that...).
- You can expect me to post at least once a day unless I specify otherwise. That said, my summer schedule might change so I'll keep you guys posted.
- Lurking is a scum tell because, assuming all other things are equal, scum are simply more likely to lurk than town. In Newbie Games, this might not be as true as in other games but seriously, just don't do it. It kills games and makes them boring overall.
- Townies in general should almost never lie. If you're town, you should feel free to say what's on your mind almost all of the time.

unvote, vote: Grimmjow

I advise nobody answers those two questions since they're dangerously close to fishing.

Grimmjow, who's your boyfriend? How could those two questions in any way be productive?

Answering time.

1) How long have you been playing?
Like for a month, my join date doesn't say so though.

2) How often can we expect you to post?
Alot, I get bored easily at my house so I'll check this very often.

3) What is your opinion on lurking?
Don't like them.

4) In what situation is it permissible for a vanilla townie to lie?
Why would a vanilla townie lie about something? I don't get the point of that, because they have nothing to hide.

I'll ask some questions of my own too.

1. Why are you not mafia?

2. Are you lying about your previous answer?

3. Pick a Number please? One, Two or Three

4. Are you nervous about question 3? why or why not?

To answer myself:

1. Because I got a role PM saying I'm a Vanilla Townie.

2. No I'm not.

3. 3, because we're on question 3.

4. It's just a simple question, no need to be nervous about it.

Yes, I know. I thought there might have been a more cool reason for why you had removed it though. Guess not.

What do you think of my Grimmjow vote?

Grimmjow's questions does seem a tad bit fishy, but that's not enough evidence to know if she's actually scum or not.
Your vote is reasonable, I would say. Asking her questions would be rather nice.

Oh and to answer your question on page 1. Yes I was in another Newbie game before, but got modkilled because I was a fool and asked a question about scums on a different area of the forum.

Out of curiosity, do you know what I meant by "fishing"? I noticed you used the word "fishy" to describe Grimmjow's questions but that means something completely different from what I meant.

-~-~-~-~

@everyone:
since sancho opened up a can of worms that I'd like to nip in the bud immediately, NOBODY SHOULD BE CLAIMING ANY KIND OF A ROLE ON DAY 1 UNLESS THEY REACH L-1 AND SOMEONE ELSE IS WILLING TO HAMMER THEM.

Hope that's clear.

I think you meant 'fishing' meaning to try and see who is scum and townie. If I were to say that I like being townie on the first question, and then say I wasn't happy with my current role, that would kind of mean that I may not be a townie. I see those questions like that.

I'm EST -5

And Incognito, my boyfriend is xRECKONERx..

And, as far as my questions go, I can see how they would be considered fishy, however, if I were scum, I would not need to "fish" for information as to who was town and who was not. However, as town, I most certainly would need to do this. And, as this is my first game and I don't like the idea of RVSing, why would I not start a discussion on such a topic?

Also, I stated that you did not have to tell me what role it was that you were partial to. I just asked if you had a role you preferred. A yes or no answer does not give me any real information. Just like asking if you like your role. It gives me no concrete information as to what you are.

One more also: I'M A GUY, NOT A GIRL. KTHNX

And finally, I just woke up, so let the games begin. :D

Grimmjow, as scum, you would still be "fishing" for who is Cop/Doc/JK. Actually, my understanding of fishing is that it is a scum tactic used to get Power Roles to out themselves and allow themselves to be NKd.

The way he asked them just seems more...covert, for lack of a better word. I mean, he could very well glean PR's and townies from the answers if he was scum, but it just doesn't seem like it would actually get anything useful.

However, Grimmjow, you could have chosen a better topic to start on. It's generally not good to start off asking about roles this early, from what i've heard.

Random votes generate discussion and possibly let people slip up and give us bit of information as to which role they have. Those give us clues and then we can work from that.

If you ask those kind of questions, it usually makes people slightly suspicious of you.

Ok, touché. I can understand that. I didn't consider the ramifications of asking this as scum. Also, as my first game, I'm not completely sure how this game plays out, so I didn't think about scum needing to hunt down PRs. I can see that though. And I can agree that this does seem a little fishy, now that I *think* that I understand gameplay a bit better.

No, I was not trying to get information. I simply stated that, as town, I would need try to get information.

Voidedmafia wrote:However, Grimmjow, you could have chosen a better topic to start on. It's generally not good to start off asking about roles this early, from what i've heard.

I thought this was the point: trying to figure out what role everyone has. And I wasn't actually asking anyone what their role was. I just asked if you had a preference and if you were happy with what role you got.

sanchocolates wrote:Random votes generate discussion and possibly let people slip up and give us bit of information as to which role they have. Those give us clues and then we can work from that.

I don't understand how random votes generate discussion. I thought the point of a random vote was to just "get things over with."

UNVOTE, Vote: Grimmjow

dk_peace wrote:Personally, I've never been a big fan of random voting. I don't think it's the most efficient way to start a game. Thus, I'm going to throw out a few random questions about ourselves and about mafia theory.

1) How long have you been playing?
2) How often can we expect you to post?
3) What is your opinion on lurking?
4) In what situation is it permissible for a vanilla townie to lie?

Hopefully that can start a productive discussion. I'm going to hold off on answering to let the rest of the class chime in first.

1) Not Long, I've played it in real life though.
2) Not a lot, I'm very busy.
3) I don't know what that is.
4) If he is a Mason. I know some guy on the forum was a Mason and he was asked how he knew so much information on other people's roles. He replied that he was a hobo.

Here's an example of why a random vote will generate discussion:

Person 1: Vote: Person 2
Person 2: Why are you voting for me? I haven't done anything suspicious.
Person 1: I believe your last statement was scummy.
Person 2: What?! How?!

Kind of like that.. o.o
People can sometimes be overproctective, and slip up.
Others may vote 'just to get things over with' but not alot will do this.

Lurking means someone who is online but is not posting. That is slightly a scum tell because scum try to make the game drag on for long as possible so that the town will go along with things because they're bored etc.
