The only game that I've played with one of the colored names he was in our mafia faction and he was the only one of us to get lynched. It seemed that people were excited to play with him like he was a celeb or something but that didn't make them listen to him and it didn't stop them from stringing him up.
Being well known might be a handicap because people know your play style so well they can tell when you're full of it.

I was that guy, I think? I am not well-known for my prowess at playing the game (read: I am Bad At Mafia). I'm not influential with any established players, and any influence I do exert in games (which seems minimal at best from my perspective) comes solely from the colored name.

No. No player is ever "on" every game and folks shouldn't sheep a player just 'cause they have a reputation.

Appeal to authority.

I very very very rarely get mislynched, excepting a run of meatworld mafia where I was policy lynched day 1 ~15 games in a row. The key to charisma is self-confidence, which can absolutely be learned.

I've never really noticed that "influential players" are listened to moreso than just that "bad players" are ignored.

What's wrong with an appeal to authority?

Nothing is wrong with appealing to authority. Circular reasoning can be true too.

The once in a blue blue moon I've been lynched as scum, has been by a PR outting cop, mafia 100... Years ago.. or the more recent 2 years or so ago game, original invictus, where it was an organized busing to propel scum victory!
-Think I've won all scum games for over 2 years now. (Minus fortnight... but etc)
As for town, slightly less, but extraordinarily rare as well.... I'd say usually ends poorly for town, and tends to be a result of headless paranoid mindfubared
chickens
people.

I had a streak of no mislynches that went all the way back to 2009 and was broken recently in a 3p micro where I got a role that played a part in dictating my lynch. Part of me doesn't even want to count it but...
(Joining a 3p game like that is kinda asking to be lynched though isn't it?)

Joining games in general is kind of asking to be lynched, tbef.

i always say that not counting fortnight, I've been town in literally every game in over a year
neither of us count fortnight apparently since we're allowed to disqualify an outlier?

Oh yes, I have had my moments on this site.
They were multiple times i was so correct with who is mafia in a game yet my reasons were ignored and those lnches wont passes through, mostly never.
I completely agree that a player influence is pretty high on this site... its more like a site META. you have an expereinced player in the game.. Just sheep him.... its the kind of behaviour most players displaying anand letting town loose game.

Yes, the argument that "if people have listened to me when I was right it'd own" is a convincing once. Most people tend to leave out all the (more frequent) times they're wrong though, but anyway.

It's all a matter of shouting the right things loudly over and over again.

You have a good point but I don't think it is as simple as you make it out to be. Some players are good with ascertaining motivations of others and figuring out who the scum are. Some players are skilled at making convincing cases and pushing for lynches. If you find that you are often correct in your suspicions but that those players weren't lynched, it means that they were more skilled at presenting good cases than you, while you are more skilled than the other townies in deducing the motivations of players in the game.
For example if you were right about player M being mafia, and Townie T thinks that townie X is mafia and pushes a lynch successfully, it is clear that T is better than you at pushing cases and you are better than T at scumhunting. The best scumhunters aren't necessarily the most persuasive players. You are expecting someone who is worse scumhunter but a better case-pusher to have the same scumhunting ability as you while you don't seem to be able to match their persuasive ability.

When someone that is well-known posts arguments for the lynch of a player, it almost always goes through whereas if a relatively unknown player does it, it takes a lot more time to push through the lynch. This usually doesn't even matter what their alignments are and whether or not they are leading mislynches.
Regarding the completed games I've been in, I get the feeling this is true.
