On the one hand, I figured the prank would be more transparent than it was; I didn't think anyone would believe the changes were real, so I supposed no one would take it seriously enough to get angry. I imagined I was more transparent than I was, which is the result of a cognitive bias that I can't quite name at the moment. I knew some people would believe the prank, but I figured they'd laugh at themselves once they figured out it, and that people who
had
figured it out would be similarly bemused.
I thought the fun was in everyone getting to choose silly titles for themselves. A lot of people did have fun, and are having fun, I think. But I do think that if I'd put less work into deceiving everyone else, more people would have enjoyed the temporary change of pace.
I found the bans pretty funny, too. Like, when MattP banned me, he and I joked about it. But still we live in ambiguity.
