Maxwell raises an eyebrow and responds in Undercommon. "Who's askin'?"

She raises an eyebrow in response. "City guard, sir."

"No, this ain't my domicile. I'm here for a party, and you're kinda killing it."

[T-Bone]

"Surprise! Happy birthday! "

Lililon jumps out from her holding spot and tries to get everyone else to join in the ruse.

"Dammit. It's not her. Everyone reset..."

Lililon approaches the door standing behind Alexander and Maxwell with an innocent yet annoyed smile.

"So what are you here for anyway? Surely guards must have better things to do than knocking on random doors."

[SleepyKrew]

Making a Deception check from Lililon, with advantage because of Maxwell setting her up. Got a [27].

The guard puts a hand to her forehead and takes a deep breath. Switching to Common, she says, "We received reports of a large number of suspicious individuals congregating here. Sorry for the disturbance, and enjoy your party." She turns around and gestures for her companion to leave. As they walk away, you can hear them grumbling about how often they're sent to investigate harmless misunderstandings.

I assume you close the door and return to the main room.

The other rebels are amazed and delighted. Maxwell and Lililon receive many hearty pats on their backs. Someone jokingly says, "Don't celebrate too loudly, or they'll be back because of a noise complaint," which fills the room with laughter. A couple people wave their hands in front of Wolfgang's face, to see if he's still awake.

Despite all this merriment, Vornimar is still slumped in his chair. His eyes are closed and he's pressing his palms against his ears.

Maxwell walks over to Vornimar and taps him on the shoulder.

"What's wrong with this guy?"

When you touch him, he reacts with a jolt. He looks around the room, stands up, and attempts to compose himself before speaking. "Comrades, I just received a very important message from an ally I thought was long gone. I'll tell you what he told me, word for word. 'Chaedi and her most powerful goons are gone. Current Chaedi is a double. Her mansion is still guarded, but no elites. I will die soon.' This is our opportunity. We must seize it!" His face looked pained as he said the last sentence of the message, but the pain was quickly replaced by confidence.

Wolfgang looks at Vornimar and says, "Friend, you have had too much to drink. There was no messenger just now, only the city guard." He helpfully searches for a cup of water to hand over.

Can I make some kind of check to see if I have seen this kind of behavior before? or if it's related to magical influence in any way?

"A double? Perhaps one of mine. I don't know why one of us would want to work for a uniform oppressing our people but doubling does sound like the sort of business we'd be in if we were so inclined" H says, reverting to his original form. "Certainly worth looking into. Assuming the fellow isn't deep in his cups, as suggested."

Vornimar stares daggers at Wolfgang and H. "I'm completely sober. I heard the words as if spoken by his own voice. I'm sure it was some kind of spell."

Arcana check for Maxwell. Got a [24].

Maxwell, you are aware of the Sending spell, which lets you send a message of 25 words or less over any distance.

"Looks like someone had a message for you. So who is this ally?"

[SleepyKrew]

"An old friend that I'd trust with my life."

[xRECKONERx]

Maxwell raises an eyebrow. "Any chance you're, eh, feelin' like sharing more than that with us? After all, we don't know this guy."

[SleepyKrew]

"And based on his message, you're not going to get to know him. Are you worried I was fed false information?"

[xRECKONERx]

Maxwell nods. "It's possible. Then again, we don't really know you that well, either. I'm not so comfortable rushin' into an unknown situation like that without more details."

[McMenno]

"This is the only lead we got, right? I think it would be unwise not to take it. Besides, the guards might wisen up soon and then we're in all kinds of trouble."

[SleepyKrew]

"Why would anyone lie about this? If Chaedi's goons were out to get me, they have much simpler ways."

The other rebels are divided. Some feel it's too risky to act on the message, while the rest insist that this is a golden opportunity.

Maxwell turns to the group. "Right, then. I guess we check it out? I don't hear any other bright ideas."

[AniX]

"Fine with me. We multiforms are a rare lot. I think I might be the only one in this rebellion honestly. Certainly the only one who would volunteer himself as such. That makes me, and therefore us, in the best position to investigate any allegations of doubles. I can't say I can pick another changeling out of a line-up, but I can certainly do it better than a mono, I'm sure."

[SleepyKrew]

Vornimar stands up straighter. "Everyone that's too scared to investigate Chaedi's absence and potentially seize her mansion, get out. Good luck on your endeavors, and I hope we can meet again." The other rebels slowly leave, even the ones that were calling the message a great opportunity. Vornimar closes the door after the last one. "Fucking cowards." He turns to face those of you still in his home. "How adept are you lot at fighting? My skills are better suited for sneaking around and gathering information, but I doubt our trek to Chaedi's mansion will be a peaceful one."

"Why don't we just hire some morons from the sailor's guild to do our fighting for us?"

"Because 'morons' fight like morons. Especially when we don't know who we are fighting or even if we want to fight them. There is no love lost among the changelings for the elites, not after they attempted to violate our divine right of forms. If this doppelganger is an ally, we do ourselves a disservice sending goons after them."
