Dunn claiming VT here makes him like ++++scum because he’s more than capable of playing strongly and he just straight up hasn’t at all. The ONE possible explanation for that from town!dunn would be him trying to stay out of the spotlight to get to use his PR

He hasn’t. What has he done? Nothing, basically. He’s lazily tunnelled my slot on weak evidence, resolutely refused to do any meaningful work sorting the playerlist besides that, and has generally had an awful progression around the hammer that you noted yourself

Add that to the two most recently dead townies strongly expressing a belief that he’s scum, AND the fact that at worst we lose a VT who is doing nothing to help solve the game, and this is a no-brainer quite frankly

If "I picked up on her soft" was the true explanation, he could have just used that, which would free him up to claim whatever he wanted.

So, your reasoning only holds if Dunn for some reason knew that lilith had jailed you but couldn't claim why he knew. I was asking, why would that be?
