"that Oslo/d_rouge are the SK/vig", of course.
Never mind, keeping my fingers crossed is all I can do now. Don't mind my rantings. Where's the mod?

It all makes sense now - this is a very powerful town, with 3 masons, 2 investigative roles, doc and vig. The mafia need an equally powerful weapon to counterbalance this.

Pug89 is the last remaining mafioso. Just look at how he never helped us lynch Shiryu and PJ.
I was out of town when when Shiryu was lynched I didn't have a chance to vote for him; there was no possible way I could have voted for him. I was busy when PJ was lynched and didn't have time to make a detailed reading of the thread and did not want to vote for him untill I did; by the time I was going to vote for him he was already lynched.
Alexander wrote:Also, do you know why there was no kill tonight? BECAUSE WE KNOW ALREADY HE IS THE PHOENIX, AND ANY PHOENIX-FLAVORED KILL WILL REVEAL HIM.
Or maybe there wasn't a kill because you wanted to make it appear that you where actually docter and frame me as scum.

In post 269, I said I protected Osloboditelj. In post 281, d_rouge said he tried to kill Osloboditelj and was not successful. I think this makes it fairly clear I am the doc.

Also, if I was scum holding back not to kill, that would explain the absence of ONE kill, but not BOTH. Only if we accept the theory of "Alex is doc, Pug89 is mafia who's afraid to kill", can we explain why BOTH kills did not take place.

Day four final votecount:
d_rouge: 3 (Maz Medias, Osloboditelj, Pug89)
Osloboditelj: 1 (d_rouge)

As the town gathered again, accusations and protestations flew. In the end, though, it was the individual known as d_rouge who they finally chose to take down. Despite the protestations of innocence coming from him, d_rouge was beaten to the ground, and left lying motionless. EnderX went over, and withdrew the usual letter.

Look, I've gone over this with you a dozen times before. You've been picked to be included in this round of the census; so you're going to be in this round. You can detest your fellow census-mates all you like, you WILL be present for the current round of the MythCensus. Either that, or we will be forced to get an injunction against you and have you written out of mythology. I trust that this drastic step won't be necessary?

EnderX flipped the disguise unit on d_rouge off, revealing a white-haired horselike body bearing a brilliant multicolored horn. A horn tipped with flecks of dried blood.

d_rouge, Unicorn, sk-lynched day four.

It is now night. Dawn is in 96 hours. Please get your choices in quickly.

Morning dawned, and the last of the census group wandered out to discover who, if anyone, had fallen that night. As expected, a single body awaited them on the beach-that of Alexander. Once more, EnderX withdrew a letter from the victim.

Sir, I am grateful that you have proven willing to take time out from your other concerns to participate in the MythCensus. I hope that you will be able to return to your tasks as soon as possible.
MythCensus
EnderX

EnderX flipped off Alexander's disguise unit, revealing what lay beneath. At one time, it had been a clay statue, given life by the word 'Emeth' written upon its forehead. Now, the formerly soft clay was hard, like porcelain, and covered in soot and scorched areas. All around the body, the grass was charred so deeply it had turned white with its own ash.

Alexander, Golem, Doctor-Burned N5.

With three alive, it's two to lynch.

Let me just add that lynch-resistant as a mafia ability is completely ridiculous, and the overall power level of this game was insane. Oh, and we lynched scum every day. Go us!

honestly, there were a
lot
of moments I would have been willing to vote you for posts I disliked if I hadn't been completely certain you were a Mason.

Oh, and I feel like my play got significantly worse whenever we got to night - both times I vigged, I killed investigative roles. Admittedly, this was my first time as a vig.

Good game, folks.

I usually get placed as scum on aggression+unorthodoxy no matter what I am. It just hasn't really been "meta-realized" like BabyJesus' style is, for example.

Plus I felt more confident playing balls-out as a Mason.

Upon seeing the manner in which the Golem had been killed, Osloboditelj and Maz Medias turned on Pug89. Without even giving him a chance to utter a single word, they tore into him. The disguise unit was the first thing to go; once the phoenix's face was visible, Osloboditelj held up a hand, motioning for Maz, who was holding Pug captive, to turn away. An instant later, it was over. Only a statue remained of the once-brilliantly shining bird...a statue that was shattered into nothing but pebbles as Maz Medias struck hard and fast against it.

Pug89, Phoenix, Mafia Godfather-Lynched Day five.

Game over-town wins.
.

Congratulations to the town, and especially to Alexander for his skill at piecing together what was going on. Full role reveals and night actions will be up soon.

Good game.

Well, I didn't think that the fact of not counter-claiming right away would have played a part in the following, in fact I could have counter-claimed without trouble.
I feel you lynched me for the wrong reasons, but anyway you had to lynch me, so well done.

I was preparing the vig claim and I was sure that Alex was going to protect Oslo but I expected a mafia kill on that night, which would have left 4 people with me and a mafia and a whole different situation for the town. When 5 people woke up, I knew I was screwed.

Town certainly deserved to win this game: lynched scum Days 1 (failed), 2, 3, 4, and 5.

And I'm rather disappointed with myself: I
honestly
thought that Alexander was the SK while I was reading the thread, so in all reality, I would have made the exact same argument against him even if I weren't scum (except I wouldn't have tried to counter-claim him, obviously).

Funnily enough, if D_Rouge wanted to risk it, we could have gotten Alexander lynched on Day Three: I was on, Speedy was on, and we only needed D_Rouge and Pug89 to hop on to seal the deal (which would almost assuredly lose the game for the town, unless SK and Mafia cross-killed).

Even with such a powerful town, I still think the GF who could survive a lynch was rather brutal, and could easily have cost the game.

And it was fun arguing with Alexander. :P

With the disruptive creatures now gone, the census team got on with their job. Fortunately, some of the creatures, such as the poor Peacock, were merely representatives of a larger group; the loss of the specific peacock in the census wouldn't do any real harm to the world of mythology. Others, such as the Phoenix and the Lorelei, were unique myths; their loss would most likely cause grave harm to the world of mythology and legend. Even so, one by one they were tagged, marked off the list, and had all of their information recorded.

The Scum-

1.
d_Rouge: Unicorn, the SK

You are the Unicorn. Generally considered to be a creature of great purity, you cannot abide the thought of being near any of the obviously impure creatures in the Myth Census. As a result, you've decided to take matters into your own hands...er, hooves.
Generic Role: SK.
Each night, you may send in the name of another player to spear with your noble horn.
You win when none of the other players remain.

From the pile of rubble that indicated the last remains of the Phoenix, a young woman in a Mythcensus shirt saw the edge of a piece of paper sticking out. She quickly pulled it out, to turn over at the Census's end.

Sir, I must insist on your being present for the myth census. I really don't care what you think about it, your name was drawn for this round of the census taking, and you will be required to appear. I refuse to listen to any more of your complaints about it taking up your precious time. You live for hundreds of years at a stretch, for crying out loud! How can a few days make any difference to you?! BE THERE.
MythCensus
EnderX

2.
Pug89: Phoenix, the Godfather

You are the Phoenix. You have things to do, places to go, and you detest this census nonsense, since it will take up your valuable time.
Generic Role: Modified Mafia GF.
You are the leader of the attempt to break the Myth Census, having made sure that your underlings knew to heed your desires. Each night, you are responsible for sending in the kill target for that night, as well as which of the three of you will be committing the kill. As is traditional, you are generally immune to investigation. You also have a second ability-the first kill attempt, either day lynch or nightkill, to target you will fail. Or maybe not; you will burst into flames as you die, and then be immediately reborn from the ashes. Either way, you'll still be around to continue your plans. Be warned; this gift comes at a cost. Should you yourself make the nightkill, your investigation immunity will not function that night, and you can be detected.
You win with the mafia. Your underlings are the Lorelei (Shiryu), and the Basilisk (Phoebus). You may communicate with them at night.
[Mod note: The idea was to make a somewhat differently designed godfather. Even at the time, I would never have included such a role
without
having had an Sk and a Vig present. I can see now that it was, for all intents and purposes, a failed experiment. It won't happen again.]

3.
Shiryu: Lorelei, the Roleblocker

You are the Lorelei, the Germanic equivalent to the better known Grecian Sirens. Because of your practice of luring people to their deaths in the Rhine, the Mafia have recruited you to aid them in their tasks. You really don't care about their reasons, as the entire reason you joined the myth census was to make trouble all around.
Generic Role: Mafia Roleblocker.
You have a literally enchanting singing voice, and can sing so beautifully that you can stop others in their tracks. Indeed, only someone with a heart of stone would be immune to your charms. Because of this, you may, if you are not carrying out the kill for the night, choose to sing to another player, preventing them from excercising their night action, if any, that night.
You win with the mafia. Your partners are the Phoenix (Pug89), your godfather, and the Basilisk (Phoebus). You may communicate with them at night.

4.
Phoebus: Basilisk, the Goon

You are the Basilisk. A serpent with a golden crown, you have gotten tired of all of the absurd embellishments added to your description by mythmaking humans. Now, with the myth census, you see a chance to make yourself known. You feel that you can best present yourself by eliminating a number of the other creatures, giving you a better chance of being prominent in the census listing.
Generic Role: Mafia Goon.
You win with the mafia. Your partners are the Phoenix (Pug89), your godfather, and the Lorelei (Shiryu). You may communicate with them at night.
[Mod note: Anyone who wants to see the embellishments in question, go look up the Cockatrice. In later years, the two legends somehow got mixed together.]

The town-

1.
Astronaut: Primary Hydra Head

You are the Hydra. More specifically, you are the central head of the multi-headed beast known as the Hydra.
Generic role: Mason, but with minor GFish tendencies.
You are masons with Maz Medias and Der Hammer, your subordinate heads, and you know them to be protown. So long as you, particularly, are alive, then the three of you (or any survivors among you) may speak freely with each other at night. Should you fall, your subordinate heads will be unable to speak with each other, although they will obviously still know each other as protown.
You win with the town.

2.
Der Hammer: Secondary Hydra Head

You are the Hydra. Well, you're part of the hydra, a dragon with multiple heads. You happen to be one of the subordinate heads.
Generic role: Mason.
You are Masons with Maz Medias, the other subordinate head, and Astronaut, the primary head. You know them to be protown. So long as Astronaut is alive, the three of you will be able to speak freely with each other at night. Should he fall, you will no longer be able to speak with Maz Medias, although you will obviously still know him to be protown.
You win with the town.

A census worker walked over to Maz Medias. "Sir," the man said, "we probably ought to reclaim your disguise unit. Do you mind?"
"Not at all," Maz replied. The man turned the unit off and took it with him, revealing a large, draconic body; in addition to a single remaining head and neck, the scarred but regrowing stumps of two other heads were present. "Hey," Maz said as the Mythcensus worker walked away, "don't you need this too?"

Sir (or maybe Sirs...Sorry, I'm still not quite sure how to address the group of you),
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our MythCensus. Together, you form one of the most well known, if not most respected, of the various creatures of mythology, and having you in this round of the census is a wonderful bonus for us. I wish you well during the current round of the census, and hope you are happy with the end results.
MythCensus
EnderX

3.
Maz Medias: Secondary Hydra Head

You are the Hydra. Well, you're part of the hydra, a dragon with multiple heads. You happen to be one of the subordinate heads.
Generic role: Mason.
You are Masons with Der Hammer, the other subordinate head, and Astronaut, the primary head. You know them to be protown. So long as Astronaut is alive, the three of you will be able to speak freely with each other at night. Should he fall, you will no longer be able to speak with Der Hammer, although you will obviously still know him to be protown.
You win with the town.

4.
Alexander: Golem, the doctor

You are the Golem. A creature of dust and clay, you were created to be the guardian of the Jewish community in Krakow during a period of heavy anti-semitic fury. Though you are no longer among those you were originally created to guard, the need to protect those around you still burns deeply within your soul.
Generic Role: Doc.
Each night, you may pick another player to protect; you will do your best to prevent harm from coming to them. However, you can only be in one place at a time; as a result, you will only be able to prevent one attack.
You win with the town.
[Mod note: The Golem could not be roleblocked.]

5.
Flying Dutchman: Peacock, the cop

You are the Peacock. Although you are in fact a very real creature, you have a valid purpose at this myth census; you have a legendary history behind you. Long ago, a hundred-eyed, never-sleeping giant named Argus was killed by one of the heroes prevalent in mythology. To honor him, his hundred eyes were plucked from him and placed upon your tail feathers.
Generic role: Cop
Each night, you may direct the eyes in your tail at another player, and try to determine their intentions.
You win with the town.

6.
SpeedyKQ: Kraken, the watcher

You are the Kraken. A creature of the seas, of immense size and strength, you are actually a rather peaceful beast, wishing only to be left to your own devices. Sadly, the normal response of those who discover you is to try and hack through your hide and muscles, digging for treasure; naturally, you respond to this by fleeing to the depths of the sea. However, because of this, you have generally gained a bad reputation among mankind. Here and now, though, you have been requested to help out with the myth census, a task you are quite willing to take on. Though the others don't know it, the 'island' on which they have been placed is in fact you, floating through the water.
Generic Role: Follower/Watcher.
Each night, you may focus on someone walking along your surface and see who, if anybody, they meet up with.
You win with the town.

7.
Turbovolver: Vegetable Lamb of Tartary, the sheep

You are the Vegetable Lamb of Tartary. A strange hybrid of plant and sheep, your fruit is the wool-like material known as cotton. As a sheep, you tend to follow along with what others want to do...in fact, that's the whole reason you joined this census.
Generic role: Sheep.
Because you follow along with others, you may not vote for someone unless someone else has already voted for them before.
You win with the town.

EnderX stepped toward Osloboditelj. "Thanks for the assistance, Es. Sorry about the mess I made of things." He turned away, then spoke again. "The boss is going to kill me for this one."
Oslo turned of the disguise unit he bore, and tossed it over to EnderX. Without the disguise, Oslo was revealed to be a rather attractive young woman, although the snakes that kept poking out from under the scarf on her head might have detracted from that a bit. Somewhat surprisingly, she was also wearing a Mythcensus shirt, this one in green and gold, with the word
Security
emblazoned across the front. "You need to take this with you, I think," she said as he fumbled for the thrown disguise. "You're already going to be in enough hot water as it is. Still, it's not totally your fault...whoever planned this one should have known better than to get so many different myths together in one place. Anyway, thanks for the invitation."

Es, we have a problem. The agency's gotten wind of a conspiracy of some sort being planned for the census. We're not certain who's behind it, or even what they're planning to do, but whoever it is, whatever they're planning, it can't be anything good. I hope you don't mind, but I've made the decision to include you in the census group we're working with now...I'm hoping you can, er, 'take a look' into what's going on. I'm sorry to impose on you like this, but you're the only person I could think of on short notice who might be able to fit in with the rest of this crowd.
Respectfully yours,
EnderX
MythCensus

8.
Osloboditelj: Stethno, the vig

You are Stethno. Because of your mother's pride and vanity, you were transformed from a beautiful young woman into a hideous freak, as were your sisters Euralye and Medusa. Such is your appearance that anyone gazing straight upon you is turned to stone. Over the years, however, you've learned ways to hide your true appearance, up to and including a very lifelike mask of your original face, which you now keep with you at all times. (Oh yes, and a large scarf to cover the snakes on your head.)
Generic role: Vig.
Each night, you may choose another player to show yourself to, turning them into a stone statue.
You win with the town.

My only complaint is that I died before I got to do anything :P
Sucked in to the mafia who killed the only member of town that
didn't
have a positive power.

I think a lynch-resistant mafia member is awesome, though really really evil. I didn't read through the game to find out why it was a failed experiment though, so I'm probably wrong in saying this.

So umm... this was my first win as town >___>

I think I'm gonna go back to playing a few more newbie games, as I really have very little expirience playing a mafia role. The last (and first) game where I was mafia, it actually worked laying low and not actually doing much of anything. So with only that as a reference, I tried pulling it off again, which obviously didn't work against you guys. <_<

I apologize for any accusations of "bastard modding" I have previously hurled. I guess the game did turn out to be more or less balanced after all. Yes, a lynch-resistant mafia is brutal, but so are three masons. I guess both sides had their share of power in this game.

I also apologize for calling you guys idiots, I guess I took the game a tad too seriously. Actually, everyone played quite well. Ironically, it was Der Hammer's ridiculous over-the-top breadcrumbing on day 1 that helped win - without it, I wouldn't be inclined to believe Maz is a 3rd mason.
PJ wrote:And I'm rather disappointed with myself: I honestly thought that Alexander was the SK while I was reading the thread, so in all reality, I would have made the exact same argument against him even if I weren't scum (except I wouldn't have tried to counter-claim him, obviously).
Actually, (and you're probably going to laugh at this), I claimed doc as a way to test you. From the way you were arguing your case, I was getting less and less certain you were scum; honestly, had you NOT counterclaimed me, I could have been convinced to go lynch someone else -- SpeedyKQ for example.
PJ wrote:Funnily enough, if D_Rouge wanted to risk it, we could have gotten Alexander lynched on Day Three: I was on, Speedy was on, and we only needed D_Rouge and Pug89 to hop on to seal the deal (which would almost assuredly lose the game for the town, unless SK and Mafia cross-killed).
Yes, well, but he didn't know that, right? He probably thought both Mafia are voting for me... SpeedyKQ, for some reason, allied himself with you in quite a blatant way. Hindsight is always 20/20, sometimes even better.

Oh, and we had 2 misvigs on good guys, but also 2 doc-saves on good guys to compensate :)

Anyway, gg all, and thanks for modding, EnderX!

Ok, at this point I'm officially weirded out.

1. SpeedyKQ watched me on Night 3.
2. I targeted SpeedyKQ that night.
3. So he knew I targeted him.
4. And he knew he was alive, so he must have realized that I have, well, some kind of targeting ability that doesn't kill.

AND YET, THE NEXT DAY HE THOUGHT I WAS THE SERIAL KILLER !? WTF ??

Princess Bride Mafia had a lynch-resistant godfather (town won, and IIRC, without a mislynch).

Museum of Famous Women had an SK who, through clever use of role, survived multiple nightkill and lynch attempts (IIRC, also without a mislynch).

I actually think the lynch-resistant mafia GF was an interesting addition, and most importantly was a good way to keep us on our toes. The use of that role set a precedent which decreases the confirmability of lynchproof claims in the future, which makes it less easy to manipulate the setup and thus increases the importance of actually, y'know,
playing Mafia
in the sense of reasoning out who's scum. But yeah, the power level of this game was through the roof - doc, cop, vig, watcher, three masons, mafia roleblocker and the crazy lynch-proof GF is insane. I think the setup favoured the town very slightly (except for the assumptions we made about Pug due to his ability), so maybe Phoebus should have been an investigator or some such.

This game was also really well-written; hats off to EnderX for an excellent modding job.

d_rouge - it was the ambiguity of your stance around counterclaiming that made you get lynched almost as much as it was the numbers game. If you're fabricating a claim that counters
two different claims
which have already been made, being reluctant to reveal it is rather suspicious. Your lynching was correct.

Shiryu - the issue wasn't just lying low, but that you had
no clear opinion on anything
. Not doing much is fine if you add something substantive once in a while, but you sounded completely ambivalent about everything. That plus your weak allocation of suspicions tripped you up.

Alex - he could have thought that you'd tried to kill him but failed (maybe due to a doc protect), but with three kills and the other supposed doc claiming to have protected someone else, that doesn't make sense. It's things like that that made me vig him.

On that note, I feel that, if Speedy had been alive D4, things might have ended differently simply because of the way the numbers worked out. In a perverse way, my misvig may actually have helped the town.

Oh, and I'd say the MVP of this game was definitely Alex - even if I worried he was the SK for a while, he basically facilitated the finding of all our scum, plus made good choices on who to protect. Well played, sir.

Just found something interesting; I was taking some notes as the game progressed, and here's something I scribbled at the end of day 1:
Maz Medias:
Made a few questionable plays, such as keeping his random vote around for a long time. His buddying up to Der Hammer is particularly worrying. He's either mason with Der or scum.
