fwiw EP my scumgame has expanded a lot since American Presidents Mafia so I probably wouldn't lean too heavily on that for like, meta tells and I'm a bit better at hiding my intentions these days

i would say that presidents gave me a grasp on your playstyle because i was so aware of you as a scumpartner in that game
and also picking up on your strengths, where you're comfortable being as a scum player
i considered voting you when you joined me on voting t-bone but god dammit i like you too much

and sorry for self meta spam but a lot of the town of APM (nauci skitter rel shoshin) have misread me since using those tells so I'd feel bad not speaking up

one thing is that i think you like sinking into strongly held convictions. you like upholding and defending those convictions instead of constantly having to fake a reevaluation. i think your "fake" reads as scum might potentially stick a little stronger than your real reads as town. I thought that maybe that might be a byproduct of our particular strategy in that game though.

the t-bone vote gave me a weird gut feeling, i dont really have anything to articulate honestly. i think that was part of why i didnt end up voting you

Meta is trash, but man, if you're gonna advocate for it and or use it, I think you have to be all in. It seems weird to me that you can both think meta is valid but then also decide where it is and isn't valid.

it's a call for wariness because i just beat like 2/3 of the town of the game EP knows my scumgame from in another game
she explained her tells and i think i slightly underestimated her sense for my scumrange etc. etc.

calling meta is trash was a joke, meta is fine it just needs to be used less liberally than a lot of people use it. i totally agree that you're either "META OR NOT META", meta can be used effectively sometimes and can royally fuck up games sometimes and not many people are wary of the difference. so like... meta with caution.

I think you're trying to manipulate how EP might use meta to read you.

(On a game theory level my biggest issue with meta is how easy it is to manipulate. My second biggest issue is that I think people apply it poorly. For example Bins hates my tone. She is gonna look at #333 from me and instinctively hate it. Why? Because it reads cheeky and that's a trait she associates with scum. But, anyone who interacts with me anywhere on site knows that my default posting style is banter, and I will do it at all hours of the day, all phases of the game. And I know that understandably pings people as "Bone is cocky scum". But, at the same time, I could manipulate this, because I'm aware of it. So it's pretty useless as a tell.)

Yeah I holistically agree with you about meta. You worded roughly what's on my mind, just including the point that it's possible to manipulate (I'd contest there are particular tells, particularly unaware ones that are harder to manipulate - EP's point that I'm more steadfast and slower to change my mind as scum is on point and not something I've really quantified to myself til she said it just then)

The problem with the stance that someone talking about their own meta is likely to be? possibly? manipulating the way someone else views there meta is fraught with danger tho because by the nature of like meta and shared experiences you basically have to accept any meta conversation ever could be spun in a manipulative fashion.

I don't think I have anywhere super productive to go with this conversation sorry. D: I hope my reason for reaching out to EP about her meta makes sense at least. I would have felt remiss not saying anything.

No one post is scummy in a vacuum, and I don't believe that even most posts a player makes is alignment indicative. I do believe however, that everyone plays to the absolute best of their abilities, and thus, I might call something manipulative that makes people go "i'm/they aren't that smart."

Who knows how you would have kept going had i not pointed this out. Would you continue trying to manipulate EP's read? Was it a one off thing from a town!worst who wants his friend EP to get it right. I don't know the answer to that.

For me, I think manipulation is the biggest scum tool, and that's generally what I look for. I don't think every post Elsa has made indicates she is scum. I think her over the top "if you lynch me you'll be sorry" is an attempt to subvert expectations. IE that's a scumtell, everyone knows it's a scumtell, I'm gonna do it because people will think I wouldn't be so obviously scum here." If it was a one off comment, then I wouldn't give it much thought. But that she did it, I called her on it, she continues to do it, and I'm the only one who cares, tells me this is a deliberate choice by her to manipulate people's read and expectations of her.
