It depends to what extent you mean "innocuous." Having titles dictated by the masses makes things less egocentric, and the titles convey more meaning and preserve memories that more people can enjoy than the owner. Naming myself "Chief Justice of the Walrus Court" or some such nonsense might be cool to me, but it does nothing but fluff my ego, really, and the rest of the community can't really enjoy it (and, at the end of the day, nor can I, because my title bears less meaning and lacks the quality of recalling fond memories with fellow players). Creating titles in this way (the way it generally is, it seems) allows things to be more down-to-earth. You can give someone a title based off of some blunder they had in a game and each party can have a good laugh at his expense. It becomes more humble at that point.

But he didn't know how titles were decided before he made the request, it was an innocent mistake. Of course, there's every reason to troll someone over an innocent mistake, particularly over one made because of ignorance.

Because he didn't know how titles were given out and thus must be branded a newbie forever.

If he gets a title for this, would be my choice. The rest of the title suggestions have been clever attempts to avoid being so blatant about that, but ultimately, that's the joke and I don't think the joke gains anything by being obfuscated. Some of the suggestions (orange in sharp contrast, most notably) are very clever ways of saying the same thing, but to me the more clever suggestions really take away from the fact that Metal Sonic is .

I read that topic and it doesn't seem like he was actually requesting a title.
Some forums lets you change your user title as you wish and I think he was asking for some type of those.

the fact that ms didn't understand how titles were created is a result of the part of his personality that's described by the title he suggested for himself

Yeah he's from PO which you change on your own and he assumed you had to make a request to change them here

is the best way to go not just because of how long he's been here without knowing how it works but also just because of how he's perceived on the site in general

*shrug* the title fairy thread's been dead for a while. So a lulz title is just the way to bring attention back to it.
