For a lynch to occur, there needs to be a certain number of votes on a particular player. In this case, the required number is ten. There hasn't been ten votes on a single player this day phase, so a lynch hasn't occurred.

"...It seems Krelian knew all along; he simply had no desire to apprise us of said fact. We seized much of his information when he passed, although it remains likely he has other caches of data, not to mention that which he took the grave without recording."

"We must coordinate a strike to bring them down before they can alter their flight pattern."

"We will send some... specialists at dusk. Shevat will fall, and the lambs will lose what little unseen support they never knew they had."

~Somewhere above the ocean~

Barnes, the leader of the five-gear squad sent by Solaris to attack Shevat, did not know the names of his compatriots. He wasn't even told why he'd been chosen; only that they needed to bring five modified gears to Shevat's last known location and await further instructions. The former objective had been met, but Barnes had little idea as to the amount of time it would be until they heard from command again. His gear, meanwhile, tracked the mass of metal and ether that comprised the city, lazily floating away from them.

What little attempts at idle chatter he'd made hadn't been propagated by the rest of the squad, who seemed as in the dark about their purpose here. Truth be told, Barnes had no idea why he, a low ranking corporal, had even been selected to lead this group of men he'd never had the opportunity to even meet face to face.

The comm crackled to life. "Nu team, confirm position."

Barnes did so. "Acknowledged. Engaging auto-pilot momentarily."

He frowned.

auto-pilot? What for?

He'd begun to register a confused response to his dispatcher when a few beams lit up the general area, seemingly not meant to hit.

"Solarian gears, stand down!" Barked a very young sounding female voice, obviously magnified, outside his cockpit.

Barnes checked his displays. A single gear, weapons hot, was suddenly positioned between them and the floating city. He still didn’t have visual.

He fumbled with his comm. This wasn't part of the plan. "Shevatan gear, prepare to negotiate terms for your surrender." He improvised. He hoped it had sounded menacing enough.

"Do you always politely demand deference when loaded with high grade explosives?"

Barnes froze, and instead of responding, checked his auxiliary readouts. Everything seemed normal. He attempted to break off from the formation, but found that his controls were locked.

"Payload armed. Navigation offline." The Solarian dispatcher evenly responded again, almost certainly oblivious to the Shevatan response.

"What the

fuck

do you mean, 'payload armed?'" Barnes demanded, but the comm link had gone dead.

The gear had been modified alright - modified to accept an auto-pilot and carrying, if that Shevatan girl was telling the truth, tons of high explosives. It made sense to him now, his selection to squad leader as a relative nobody as well as his skeleton crew: they were low pay grade soldiers that wouldn’t be missed, not anyone that actually needed to be trusted with anything.

Just then, one of the others in their group, who had probably come to the same conclusion, opened fire on the girl.

The response was quick and devastating. The Shevatan gear opened fire, two missiles streaking toward the perpetrator. There was nothing he could do to evade, and the offending gear was blown apart. Whatever was packed in that gear did not have a full chance to completely arm, for only a reasonably sized explosion emanated from the destroyed craft, but it was large enough to take another one with it. The others had begun to automatically drift apart, heading for different parts of the floating city.
The girl would not be able to get them all in time before at least one of the survivors approached Shevat.


“Shevatan gear,” Barnes implored, trying a different tactic. “We are not in control of our craft.”

“Understood,” the girl said plainly. “I’m sorry that Solaris treats their own as badly as they treat everyone else.”

And instead of firing, the girl instead positioned herself in the center of the formation, right alongside her own gear, and Barnes saw the enemy craft for the first time, eyes widening. It was easily the largest gear he had ever seen.

Suddenly, Barnes was being jerked backward, away from the city. He craned his neck to see; the Shevatan girl’s gear was generating a massive gravitational field, pulling the other three of them toward her.

The four of them converged in a central spot, not far from the city, which had begun to gain ground on them again, however slowly, and still too far for Solaris’ now apparently suicide bombing scheme to possibly work.

The four of them sat there, the giant gear maintaining its field. Barnes didn’t know what to say. This girl was sacrificing her life to keep them away from the city.

“Listen... very closely,” the girl panted, obviously strained from exertion of some sort. Just how much of this ether field was coming from the gear, and how much from her? “On my mark, you need to... realign your shields... entirely... to the front of your craft.”

What little loyalty he had left for Solaris had been washed away in the past five minutes, and Barnes had been taking orders all of his life, so he didn’t bat an eye as he prepped the systems. “Understood.” He hoped the others had taken similar precautions, which he had to hope were designed to give their gears a chance to make it out in one piece.

“I am dislodging the explosives now,” the girl breathed in the midst of her concentration. “Drawing them to the center...now.”

He waited a few more precious seconds.

“Engage shields!”

Barnes’ hand jammed down on the button an instant before he was blown in a random direction. He lost consciousness soon after.

~Oceanic vessel Thames~

A young, silver haired girl opened her eyes on a cot in an unfamiliar place.

Upon hearing her stir, a dem-human man jogged over to the stool propped next to the cot and sat down.

“Easy there, missy,” a raspy, comforting voice told her. “Yer safe. Do you remember what happened to ya?”

The girl put her hand to her temple, feeling the bandages that had been applied there. She lay back down.

And after a moment, responded. “No.”

“Do you have a name?”

A groan. “I...can’t remember.”

The man patted her shoulder, as if expecting this response. “Get some more rest. Maybe you’ll remember tomorrow.”

The girl closed her eyes, and the man rose and walked away. “Otherwise,” he whispered morosely to himself. “Yer always free to become a man of the sea.”

Emeralda approached the lighthouse with great apprehension.

Since her revival, and although officially involved with the Alliance, Emeralda had spent the majority of her efforts looking for any trace of the Zeboim civilization. She didn’t think herself heartless, but she also couldn’t lie to herself - Kim mattered to her, as much, if not more, than the fate of the world.

And it was that need for closure that had led her to the abandoned lighthouse in the middle of nowhere on the northern continent. Pushing the door open, Emeralda stepped inside.

A glass elevator stood before her, as if welcoming her to the sights below. Stepping forward toward the edge of the platform, Emeralda gazed downward.

Even from far away, Emeralda knew that the ruined cityscape she saw below her had once been her home.

Dizziness overcame her and she was forced to prop her hand against the elevator’s side.

Zeboim was truly gone forever,

she thought, and tried not think about the implications of what that meant for Kim.

Still, the only way out was through. Emeralda righted herself and stepped into the glass doors, awestruck to find the panel still very much in working order. Either whomever had sought to seal these ruins away had possessed tremendous foresight…

...Or someone else had been here recently.

She shuddered to think about who, besides herself, could possibly have a both urgent and innocent need to investigate the ruins of the Zeboim civilization. Pressing the button, Emeralda contemplated exactly what she would do in the situation that she came across whomever had come before her.
