re: champ skill vs matchup strength: I mean both are right. It's unwise to focus too much on matchup when just being good at the champ is the biggest factor - that's the entire point of generating this kind of list when I have a roster of ~50 champs I play semi-frequently. At the same time, it's important to realize that "hard counter" means different things for different champs: sometimes you actually can do pretty well in a "countered" lane (Leona), but sometimes being "countered" is essentially a death sentence (Nasus). And it'd be stupid to not look at my Nasus/Vladimir experience (about the same) and understand "I can pretty much always blind pick Vlad, but Nasus is very dangerous to blind pick."

The skill advantage is why you make a constrained list from your champ pool, but within the constrained list, matchup considerations can and should loom large. Which is why I like starting this kind of conversation on my list.

As for Reck's suggestions: Yeah, I can see the value of a true bruiser but keeping Nasus on standby for specifically needing a clock. (It helps I don't really need to keep my Nasus mechanics "warmed up" - mechanically he's probably my single strongest champ.) Vi is fun and I get two for one value running her top and jungle. Galio does enough Swain doesn't that I don't want to fully replace Galio with Swain, but it is probably fair to play Swain primary and keep Galio as a swap I practice less, especially since part of his appeal is how stupid easy it is to hit Smite anyway. (My Galio mechanics chiefly consist of taking the skillshot the size of a golf ball and using it on enemies.)

So pretty much I agree with everything, aside from swapping Ken for Liss. And that's not because I think Kennen is flat better or anything - I just don't go mid often, as I said, and so I don't want to dump a lot of skill investment into Lissandra when Ken is both fine and goes top well too. Lissandra IS super fun and if I wanted to always call mid I'd probably grab her.

So maybe something like this, where the parens swaps are champs I only pick into known factors:

Top
: Vladimir, Vi, (Nasus)
Mid:
Swain, Yasuo, (Galio)
Jungle
Amumu, Vi, (Volibear)
Bot:
Graves, Ezreal
Support:
Leona, Janna, (Nami)
All-Lanes Wildcard:
Kennen

Seems like a decent compromise between depth and breadth. I'd need to drill my Vi and Yasuo a lot but the others will just take occasional refreshers. Also this would be a hilarious excuse to learn support/jungle kennen.

Kennen doesn't actually counter any of the mid laning ADs that well, in most cases he gets outdamaged and they all have a reliable(ish) way to get directly on top of you and slow/disable you (Talon E-W, Zed W-E, Yasuo E-Q-R, Khazix E-W, Panth W) at which point all you can do is ult and cross your fingers while balling away. If you have to pop your ult every time you get engaged upon, you're not a counter :P

Don't get me wrong, I love Kennen, but against bruisers, not assassins.

EDIT: Support Kennen is hilarious.

So, I just finished my placements (5/5) and I did a couple of my games less-than-sober so I'm not surprised or that upset by the fact that I'm a Bronzie with quadz, et. al.
BUT
I couldn't've finished those 10 matches with a better game. I panic-picked Kayle as a JoaT since we didn't know where our Miss Fortune was going - turned out she had DCed from chat and couldn't answer but we didn't know that. I used to practically main MidKayle last season and I did well, so that's what I did this game.

http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends. ... b=overview

I finished my placements with a 24-minute game where our opponents didn't surrender. Jarvan and I kept perfect control over 3 Dragons; we didn't lose a single tower; I beat the Kassadin I was laning against in every way possible, and I never died - ending with an 11-kill streak. Glorious feeling. Can't wait to derp around and maybe climb out later on in the season.

bc we're talking about it here: does anyone know the string to turn off autoplay for embeds? right now it looks like:

<iframe src="http://www.twitch.tv/<username>/embed" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" height="378" width="620"></iframe>

I can't let there be a function that autoplays. Autoplay is the devil.

I've never quite understood Jax before. I can get to be a big splitpusher, but I can never be the huge carryjax that I see other people playing.

Does anyone have any advice? I normally play Renekton, Rumble, Malphite top, so that's my context.

do you know how to use aa resets?
if you do then maybe you're activating your e too early or your ult too late.

I understand them, but rarely use them to their full potential. With renekton I'm p good at using my W and Hydra as AA resets. It's probably the first skill that falls off in big distracting teamfights, though.

For Jax I understand his W is a reset, is that the only one?

Just played a 50 minute game where our jungle udyr just jungled all game.
Like... 500 farm, never ganking, never splitting.
I have no idea how I feel about this.
It kinda felt like playing a 4v5, and then 45 minutes into the game there's a monster truck that just appears for the final nexus push.
