No,no I don't like that rule, I was just feeling out if you were an alt without asking you directly. I don't mind if you've never played mafia before and this is your first game or you're a filthy alt hiding from the eyes of their more respectable peers. I just think it helps to know who is and isn't an alt so I have a better idea of where you're at and where you're coming from.

After all, you can't just lie about being an alt on the internet.

Exactly. Also, the game is out of RVS because most people have correctly identified town bell. It's not RVS anymore if there were no votes and also, if someone already has a pretty good idea that at least one(1) player is town.
