The idea is that the Inmates are the ones who are "in the know" so to speak. I don't have a problem with it and I've been diagnosed with somethings myself.

I have been wondering if we share a diagnosis, actually. but i couldn’t think of a polite way to ask, because usually when someone asks, they’re not asking because they think you’re ausome.

if you search for asylum on the forums you can see how previous games have gone. for example there was this one that ended not too long ago http://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.ph ... it=+asylum

It’s a popular enough theme, there’s room for more than one person to do it.

I'm diagnosed with something that occurs in <1% of the population. Its not bipolar and its not schizophrenia.

I have an intro thread, I'll take guesses there.

Would people be interested in a 100% vanilla game?

I'm interested in modding a mini-theme game, but need to have modded a normal game as a requirement. Unfortunately, they don't really interest me. 100% vanilla would be the easiest to mod obviously.
If not, than suggestions for a mini-normal set-up are appreciated!

Generally speaking Mountainous is frowned upon by the NRG.

Had to look it up, but that answers my question, thanks.

Normal games are easy though.
Go 11-2 with any of the following combinations of roles on Town's side:
*Cop
*Roleblocker+Tracker
*Masonsx2+Role Cop (actually, go 10-3 for this one)
*Friendly Neighborx2+Vanilla Cop
Steal a ruleset from someone who sounds erudite, lift Role PMs from the wiki or the same person you stole the ruleset from, and smile for the reviewers.

Yeah, I was looking at existing set-ups, but since normal games don't interest me that much, the fact that one non-normal role is allowed sparked my interest. That's why I've already posted in the set-up review thread, because I prefer to have something that stands out a little.

11-2 by the way, is that the normal ration? I'd go 10-3 by default, but then again, I'm used to no-vanilla games.

As for rules / role PMs.. I have my own conventions, and I like formatting too much, haha. So I'll adapt my usual write-ups to conform to MS norms, especially for a normal game.

11:2 is pretty standard; 10:3 can be done but you probably need ass-tons of town powers

I'll be honest, I don't quite understand what Vi is saying. Are they saying 11 Town 2 Mafia with some PR's? But I don't understand how many on each side.

really? because newbies are 7:2 and they’re fairly balanced, so i thought adding 4 extra townies would make it townsided.

I'd argue that in current site meta 10:3 is incredibly common, but this is perhaps not the place.

I think I understand, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Vi in this case is saying 11/10 player game with 2/3 PR for town???

@Licky: No, they are saying 13 player game: 11 town 2 scum.

Gollum - Normal doesn't have to be boring; that last setup with the Friendly Neighbors is borderline trolling. (however, I think that setup is unacceptably Town-sided on second thought; I think the optimum way to play F.Neighbor is to only reveal to one person; if you don't die shortly thereafter the two of you are confirmed to each other[?]).

Role PMs don't have to follow a set template as long as you're not too revealing.

Unique redirecting roles are probably right out.

Plotinus - Newbie games also have stronger power roles in general. Plus, their setup is known-ish in advance which counts toward Town power.

10-3 is probably more common than 11-2; both ratios have benefits and drawbacks. I chose fewer scum because balance is a little easier to think about for whimsical setup toss-outs.

For reference, this was my Mini Normal. Different times, and I don't know how the NRG would react to Semi-Open these days, but it should give an idea of how you could make a reasonably distinctive game yet Normal.

(I also got a bunch of good players to start an invitation circle for this game. I don't think you can do that any more :shifty: )

Edit: oh wow if you have to steal a ruleset from me, don't use that one

Semiopens are both allowed, and classy as hell. Technically the flavor in the PMs shouldn't have been there, even though that's a silly rule because all the PMs were public anyway. (Actually, I'm not sure? The wording is a little unclear.)

Also, 3:10 is the best ratio.

The intent of "no flavor" is that you shouldn't have to fake your whole Role PM just to fake a role. Since all of the role PMs were public to begin with, the spirit of the rule was fulfilled.

It definitely fits the spirit! I am not sure if that means it's actually allowed.

yeah dw, this is the norm. (mostly because it's the easiest to balance while giving the mod some creative freedom)

I've asked about it in the treehouse. For what it's worth, I think it should be allowed. Just...I joined a month ago and have already picked like half a dozen arguments and it is getting silly.

You should use neapolitans. That will help things get better.

[..]

But the main problem is that you take away the thing I derive the most pleasure from: set-up creation (and then after that: seeing it unfold during the actual game). Just picking something from a list, or take up someone else's suggestion, isn't fun to me.

Since this is the theme test thread, I'll drop the subject here, and I'll leave the set-up up to the reviewers, if/when I get any. Or maybe I should just enter the queue seeing as games in the queue are automatically reviewed?
