I had expected a lot of noise from this cast of characters. What I hadn't expected was gleeful and deliberate contribution to the heap of useless sludge, because this was a (pre)murder case, not a fucking social hour.

The dame who paraded into my office was as hysterical as they come. But she was obviously wealthy, so I heard out her ravings about a cult. I told her I'd take the job. But little did I know, all the persons of interest in the new case would be lunatics themselves. Not one of these clowns is making a lick of sense so far.

I headed down to the dumpy bar nearby for a drink instead. Maybe the barkeep could offer me some clues. Maybe the liquor could ease my feeling that something was very wrong here.

It's the second day of my investigation, and I've learned more than I ever wanted to know. A lesser detective's mind would be shattered by the eldritch knowledge that has permeated my investigation of this cult, the "Ascension."

But one thing I do know: this power they seek is deadly in evil hands and could never be used for good.

After digging through the files in the back room of a crumbling library, my sleuthing has brought me to the conclusion that this "Menalque" character most likely lacks a hidden agenda. He might even be a lead, and the only one I have so far at that.

I mean yes there is a risk in gov in that one could save a mafia/cult lynch or we could even end up giving it to mafia or a cult recruit so they could save a team member/WIFOM us but generally speaking I think its a pro-town power and I'd kinda expect for other town to see the potential town benefit in it and want to keep it within the town. Thus I think there are going to be a ton of scum on the "no gov" wagon. For mafia, I could see them

NOT

wanting it b/c A.) they need as many lynches as they can get and gov doesn't help them with that. B.) they don't want to risk creating a link by saving thier own buddy or face questions/risk a lynch by getting it and not using it.

I especially do not like Icon's framing of gov=

It was no wonder this case hadn't been solved yet. The last guy they had on it couldn't sleuth his way out of a paper bag.

I cradle my head in one hand. The witnesses I'd interviewed tonight were worse than useless. Each only seemed interested in hysterically reporting their ludicrous "election" activities to me. Some of them must have information about the crime, but it's impossible to tell who among all their blathering. I take a drag from my cigar, standing outside the apartment of a Mr. Vorkuta, an especially useless blubbering person of interest. I can't truly start my investigation until the evil power is destroyed... for now, I need a drink.
