Yesterday I was thinking what could be an interesting theme for a mini and then something just popped up in my head: Jesus Christ had 12 disciples. I didn't know yet how I could transform it into a mini or a normal game, but it was quite a convenient number. Then I realised people might be offended by something like this because they're Christian and such and I don't want to offend people; this game is supposed to be fun.

So I thought it would be best to ask here: Would people have trouble with Jesus or any other Christian characters in a game?

Just because you mention something to do with a religion, doesn't mean people will be offended by it. But I'm not sure how you're going to make roles out of it. Just becuase there are twelve of them, doesn't make it a suitable theme. Well, maybe you have something in mind, and if so, go for it.

I thought up a good theme last night as well, but I forgot it  . I'll post it when I remember it.

I'm christian, and I think thats sounds like a good idea... As long as you aren't deliberatly insulting or offensive...

God has a sense of humour... Check out the platypus...

Good :) Like Shadyforce pointed out, it's hard to work out a mini with it, but I think I'm going to work on a normal size setup losely based on the Bible (and then especially the Last Supper and the Crucifixion). That would make it themed right?

Go for it! Being based on the bible as a whole, rather than just the 12 apostles, would give you more scope to work with.

As for my idea, I propose the theme:
The Wrath Of Nature
.

Personally, I'd make the mafia in the Jesus themed game something like Judas, Caiaphas, and Pilate. With Herod as a Serial Killer type.

Or it could be Annas, Caiaphas, and Pilate, with Judas as a traitor.

But I think those are fairly obvious ideas.

I'm a Christian(and not offended) and I've been wanting to do a game starting with the last supper and leading up to the crucifixion for a long time and thought Mafia would be a good outlet for it. I still have no clue how it would work. I just think it's great drama with a lot of depth and could be really fascinating to play. There's a lot of great mafia-type stuff in it too. The power struggle between the apostles, the betrayal of Judas, the unfair trials. The distillation of such events into a theme could be true art in game design.

First order of business is eliminating MassRoleClaims and CelebrityX from the mix. But some of the characters are actually ambivalent enough to soften that. Just remember that almost nobody present expected to be called a saint afterward.

i was thinking of a game loosely based on the bible like yesterday, (co-incidence we all think of it at once? ;))
unfortunately all my ideas would probably be cruelly mocking and offensive to most :D

Agreed.

Have you ever told someone you were reading a book, or had read a book, and had them respond "I've seen that movie."?

Yes. Lord of the Rings. And they didn't know it was a book first. Made me want to stab someone.

Anyways, I think religion mafia would be cool. You could have a bunch of important characters from various religions, 2-3 each, and have them each have special roles. It could be like Abraham, King David, Jesus, Mohammed, Judas, Buddha, Confucious, Zoroaster, etc. (Luke Skywalker?)

There seems to be an outcry for a few new Theme games... so I'll once again throw my
Illuminati Mafia
idea (based on the Steve Jackson card game) out there. If I have enough interest here, I'll start signups in the Free Market thread.

Idea: I will select various games on mafiascum and use roles from each of them in the game. The players will know the games being used.
