I would be extremely into this. Like pre-in right now. But I have no idea how representative I am of anything.

Rad. I've been drafting the setup for a little while, I'll probably /in to run it once my current games clear up.

Has anyone run a Monster Rancher theme game?
I'm considering doing a U-Pick, although I may just stay true to the games and have players submit to me a random CD/game of their choice and then generate a monster for them! :D

On a different note;
Has anyone run a Bravely Default Theme game yet?
Because I love that game and would really enjoy making it into a theme game.

Oh man, I'd be so into a Bravely Default Theme. With job classes! Ahhh, that'd be sweet, what a good game.

I'm interested in games where players have been allowed to 'pick' their alignment privately in pre-game.
Have other games been run like this in the past?

Played some games with a Mafia deck where you got two cards and got to pick which one to use, that often came down to choosing your alignment. Haven't seen anything like it on-site, personally.

But you revealed the card you didn't choose and everyone knew if you gave up a scum card you must have picked an even better scum card.

Hm, sounds neat. I'm thinking of running something very similar, where players can choose which role they want out of three 'cards' dealt.

Make sure everyone doesn't get a scum option, or it's not unlikely that everyone will be scum.

So like Great/er/est idea, but with private discards? It's probably been done, but who knows?

You can always reshuffle if too many people pick Scum.

Yes! It was Great* Idea Mafia.

They get run like every 5 seconds, you haven't seen them here?

I plan to make roles neutral of alignment, with the 'role names' as public info but the role abilities as private info.
Every player can choose alignment secretly, and these choices are obviously not revealed until post.
I think I will make certain role cards non-neutral, hm.

D'oh! I totally forgot Great/er/est Idea Mafia. I'll take notes from that, probably.

mini 1675 was a choose your own alignment game. the setup was 2:2:3:1:1:1:1:1:1. The 3 in that list was the town, and one of the 1s was a mafia traitor. It was tremendous fun!

yeah, Great Idea Mafia and variations on that theme get run all the time nowadays, and it's all CDB's fault, basically

Maybe perhaps with the option of ending early.

I'm not quite sure how the town/scum breakdown would work for Bravely Default. Perhaps town would be asterisk-bearers, with scum as the main characters? That almost works neatly but the big plot twist (you know the one) really screws things up in a way that I can't translate to Mafia mechanics in a way that won't be blatantly obvious to the players from a distance.

Don't really want flavor to be breakable, but, yeah.
I was definitely thinking the character base would be Asterisk-bearers.

How interested would people be in something related to Shakespeare? I've been toying around with ideas for a game based on A Midsummer Night's Dream. Would you guys be interested in that?

Honestly, Rob, I'd play anything you ran. :D
Some Shakespeare could make for great flavor, though. I'd be down for that.
