More of a summer game?
I don't think it should run more than once or twice a year, max.
It used to take the sign-up a while to fill because the 7-5 ratio sounds crazy until you see how the game works and what kind of data town actually get to work with. In 2013 some of us tried to get the setup into the Open approved setups list, but the listmod at that time thought the game looked super scumsided. I think the amount of associative info that the scum team has to give up negates some of the ratio benefit after Day 1.

It's possible the setup was scumsided in 2013 and isn't anymore

i think it's roughly balanced, maybe even townsided these days
(my opinion may be biased tho, i imagine i would feel different with daytalk)

feel like daytalk probably makes it ~balanced if you don't have a skitter on your team

If the sidedness of the setup has changed, then players' skills as town/scum in aggregate at MS have changed.
I suppose that's possible. Players come and go.

i spent so much of day1 trying to like ~telepathically communicate~ with u lot to get you guys to vote nacho

The next time I run the game I'll probably go with a 10-day game day and give scumchat a whirl, with some reservations.
p-edit skitter from the outside, the hydra chats looked strangely synched. I think some of the telepathic messages were hopping threads in the PT forum.

I think towns are significantly better than they used to be

I know.
It was still pretty wild to read, though!

I think that towns are stronk right now but also that it's partly because of meddling by things like the NRG. I'm considering writing something longer form on this in mafdisc forum, but the basic thesis I have is that by pushing setups towards being more townsided to stop scum sweeping too much, the general moderation made being scum really unfun for many players because it feels so much harder. That's then led to a lot of people not liking or actively hating scum, which in turns means they're not motivated when they roll scum. This (1) makes them much easier to distinguish when town and (2) means that they're often a lot easier to lim as scum because they won't fight back as hard. This effect then snowballs and makes playing scum even less fun which in turn makes people like rolling it even less and etc etc. Without active moderation interference by making things significantly harder for towns/more fun for scum, this trend is likely to continue. But it's also why in some games (not this one, to be very clear) a competent scum team will stomp, because towns aren't used to having to play teams of engaged/motivated scum.

Essentially: another point why aiming for 50% win rates is a terrible idea that we should jettison as a community as soon as possible before it does further damage. Maybe that can be the title of the post if I make it.

Could be! The 2013 game being a decisive town victory is a little odd, if so. The two scum players I would have said had really strong scum games back then were the 1st and 2nd eliminations.

i don't think its particularly sided one way or the other
I do think it's pretty swingy though this could snowball for town if two scum get elimmed early because then town has the two scum flips to work with + only need to hit 1 of 3 scum to win in three chances

I find it pretty balanced. Scum should be always be scared to lose for qualitative reasons and what makes this setup stressful comes from people not knowing how to play aggressively team-oriented over the more self-centered style typical in site meta.
Daytalk isn't necessary but a quickhammer in Elo mechanic is imo. Setting up bizarre codes and staring at clocks/hoping your partner is awake at 3am their time is less a test of skill and more a mechanical nuisance.
