I still don't really get this argument. If Col.Cathart hadn't said anything about being an old couple, then yeah, asking that question would be bad. But if something's already posted in thread, then what's the harm with asking about it?Iecerint wrote:Asking people for their role flavor is a pretty well-known no-no unless you're a rolecop or have noticed major discrepancies in aspects of the role already disclosed.
Real rolefishing is harmful to the town, such as asking for a claim too early, or saying something like "How are you so sure that X is town, unless if you're a cop or something?"

To remind everyone, that is what TMJ actually posted. I think it speaks for itself. If TMJ had followed up and said "My role PM tells me that old people may be scum" or "My role PM says that there are no old people in the community," then asking for more information might have been pro-town; however, in this case, it looks to me like he's trying to get a roleclaim out of the deal by manufacturing some pressure. An alternate explanation is that he just wasn't thinking or something. If you have another alternate interpretation of his actions, please let me know.Tjoe Min Ja wrote:old couple? care to explain more?

Here's what Col.Cathart said:
Besides, if Tjoe was scum, wouldn't he still be a "lesbian?" In which case he'd have known that the "old couple" thing meant nothing, anyway. So what would be the point of rolefishing?
And here's what TMJ said afterwards:Col.Cathart wrote: Yes, exactly. I know who my lover is. I'm actually really surprised to all of you guys don't know yours. But maybe it's just fluff-wise, because it looks like me and my lover are an old couple, so maybe that's the reason...
Seems like a legitimate reason, even though Tjoe apparently misread.Tjoe wrote:why I ask about old couple?
simply because I'm lesbian. my role said that I'm in love with someone "unconfirmed"
which is differ from col cat's lover

TMJ highlighted CC's flavor rather than his confirmed/unconfirmed lover as the basis of his question. To me, this implies that the subsequent explanation for his question was just backpedaling for damage control after people had criticized his question. His original question is targeted at flavor rather than alignment as I read it.

Then what's wrong with asking about flavor that's already posted in the thread? Especially considering that everyone has some sort of flavor with their lovers?Iecerint wrote:TMJ highlighted CC's flavor rather than his confirmed/unconfirmed lover as the basis of his question. Actually, I think my reasoning from early in the game made more sense:
Even if it was relevant, the argument that Tjoe was fishing still doesn't work. Say that Col.Cathart said his role was a "Compulsive Surgeon." Would it be rolefishing to ask what a "Compulsive Surgeon" was?
Thus, if being an "old couple" was something that was bad to mention, then why did Col.Cathart mention it?Crazy wrote:Tjoe didn't ask to explain the "confirmed" part; he asked to explain the "old couple" part. The "old couple" part may or may not have been relevant (probably not), but the fact that Col already said it makes it worth asking about.
It's based on the old philosophy that soft-claims help nobody but scum, so anything that's said in thread can be elaborated upon, hence if you don't want to talk about your role, don't mention any part of your role.

My view is that CC claiming "old couple" was pretty harmless. All of us (I assume) have some flavor to our pairing that is distinct from our role. As such, his "old couple" flavorclaim does not warrant further investigation (unless there are a priori reasons to suspect old couples, etc).
In the form of a rhetorical question -- Suppose that everyone is a Townie, but some Townies are Townie Cops or Townie Doctors. If someone says "I'm a Townie," is it scummy to ask for more information?

So he would already know that asking about the "old couple" would accomplish nothing.Ice wrote:My view is that CC claiming "old couple" was pretty harmless. Unless if in a misunderstanding he wondered how old couples were "confirmed" to each other, which is my assumption.

Yup. However, in this case not everyone is an "old couple," and being an "old couple" is not relevant to your role, but being a "townie" is.Iec wrote:In the form of a rhetorical question -- Suppose that everyone is a Townie, but some Townies are Townie Cops or Townie Doctors. If TMJ really wanted specifically the confirmation aspect clarified, he would've asked about it. Instead, he asked for flavor explication. The only reason to do so AFAIK is to gauge reactions to determine PR likelihood, which I find scummy.
I suppose it is possible that TMJ intended to ask about something other than what he asked about (e.g. confirmation rather than flavor), or that he wasn't thinking about his posts very carefully. Or his role PM tells him that the old people are out to get us. Otherwise, he is scum.

@zwet : lol...probably iceman will come and say "BAH"...
when CC said that it was "confirmed" it sign a little alarm in my head. I'm not asking about his "old couple" but rather his "confirmed" one
but when he say that he was "old couple", I still don't get it so respond and ask him that question. elvis's answer is what I need afterall

I agree with this, but I think you're reading too much into faulty wording.Iecerint wrote:If TMJ really wanted specifically the confirmation aspect clarified, he would've asked about it. The game has stagnated. I think Dizzy should use her cop abilities on a player of her choice ASAP.
Otherwise, I think we should lynch any of the 3 players CC recommended a few pages ago (Dizzy, zwet, TMJ). Dizzy is suspicious for some weird attacks D1 and for that absurd hammer D2. zwet is suspicious for being zwet, but a line has to be drawn somewhere. TMJ is somewhat suspicious for rolefishing, but I'd say he's on a second tier.
I was thinking about Crazy (I thought he might be setting up for a mislynch on TMJ), but that doesn't really make any sense in lylo and he looks OK in ISO, too.
