You've basically disregarded the fact that he has a case on someone and is pushing it. How is that not scumhunting?

No it's not. He's not pushing a case but trying to divert attention from himself. It took wagoning him to get him to even pick someone as scum. Even then, his pushes weren't designed to inquire about alignments but just to provide an alternate suspect.
A townie doesn't resist when asked for reads unless there's nothing to comment on. That's hardly the case.
