It's now Team Debt Star’s turn! Here's your card:
And the clue that your Psychic, Not Known 15, provided is:
talking
.
Your team has
(expired on 2020-06-10 16:09:05) to guess where the target is. It’s now up to you to discuss and determine where
talking
is on the spectrum from 0 to 100. 0 represents “Quiet” and 100 represents “Loud."
Kanna
is your team’s current representative. Remember to provide your final answer in this format:
Guess: X
where X is between 0 and 100.

I'm bad at linking images on my phone but on decibel charts it's like 40% from jet engine

Yeah, around 40 looks pretty good here.

Decibels are actually a logarithmic scale, though, would NK15 pedantically consider that this making the answer something like 2? Also, nuclear explosions are commonly omitted from these scales, I bet those are louder than jets.

i agree!
i searched up "sound scale" and the first thing that came up was a decibel chart so i'm guessing that's what he used.

team representative reporting for duty o7 i will not guess until everyone says they're happy with it, but i'm thinking 43 right now?

I will never be happy with it, so Kanna can never guess

In the PM, I wrote:I take 50 as the average human weight. I think while the graph from 0 to 100 might be logarithmic, around the middle 20 it's probably more linear since they're basing around their own weight.
which meant that this is spot on!
In post 510, Xtoxm wrote:im not sure what be the benchmark 50. human weight maybe? which is like 55kg avg.
in which case i could see toilet being under. we could go like 45.
Apologies if the clue is quite obtuse! Perhaps "a 13-year-old" might be more straightforward, but I looked for things that weigh around 100 pounds and the toilet came first
nice
we got it therefore its a good clue!

Google tells me a normal conversation is 60 dB, so right, I guess?
Posted: Sun Jun 07, 2020 3:56 pm
by Auro
This has "conversation" at 60 too, with 40 being ~whisper/fridge... I'm quite curious how the other team guessed 43 o.O

by Auro
Ohhh you guys had gone for the % after mapping the scale to 0-100
Eh, I think our team should just go for the raw value - so, I'd still say right.

Hmm, I thought 40's a good guess, so I'm not sure where to go, actually. My gut kinda says lower because it's quite easy to imagine things that are louder than conversations, but not so much for quieter things.
The picture even says that 60 dB is moderate to quiet, so it's probably closer to the quiet end.

100 is Loud, and 60 dB is on the quieter side, so talking would be ≥60 (not scaling this to 1-100). Why would 60dB being moderate mean "talking" is quieter - the opposite, no?

My common sense is this should be around dead center (again). I'm more inclined towards the right but 43 is a good guess.
