Play in Paramaless games?

Seraphim wrote:Any other questions while I'm around?

Not really. We're going to ignore you once you're dead anyway.

But only scum are concerned about looking town, right? Shouldn't I be more concerned with hunting scum?

also, very likely that ML is lying about White Mage ability, I bet someone tried to kill him but he was protected. Oh well. You can deal with that tomorrow.

Generally middle level players associate bad play with scum play though, so by trying to appear town as town you should also start to follow good town practices.

I don't try to look town while playing, but I've been tweaking my playstyle a bit to communicate my townieness better (which seems to be working somewhat). Having people read you as town is pretty valuable.

Boy I wish I had been able to do that. But someone took the daykill and used it to kill probably one of our best town assets. Sorry about that.

Bidding 85 for the Daykill may not have been the smartest move by the bye. Just asking to be outbid.

Useful piece of advice: have an early join date.

2008 should be relatively early to most playes. I get away with murder for having 2005 AND a scummy though. Its really not fair.

I considered bidding for the vigs, but I actually expected to be outbid by
scum
.

Actually, on that note, there's something that we might want to discuss.

If you were scum, what would your bidding strategy have been? I can think of several...

1) go for killing roles. Have one person bid 100 for each vig, have one person bid for the vanilla vig possibly + the power deleter, have one person bid for protection roles so that there are fewer of them. Use these vigs to kill good players or obvtown players, or stockpile them to make lylo come several days earlier.
2) go for protective roles. Win both doctors and the jailkeeper and the white mage, so that you can kill the inevitable cascade of obvious townies that this setup will create.
3) go for investigative roles. Try to win the gunsmith, cop, trackers and watcher to limit the inevitable cascade of obvious townies.
4) go for scum-oriented roles. Try to win rolecops, trackers, watcher, strongman, blockers, power deleter, redirector etc. Use those roles to counteract the roles that the town has.
5) some kind of combination of these.

David having the gunsmith is interesting; his claim to have bid for both main vigs is also interesting.

Which of these strategies do you think you would have chosen as scum?

6) spend most points as you would normally so you can claim pretty much truthfully, coordinating with the scum team to make sure the bids are spread out. You can probably spare 20 points or so to try to get useful scum-oriented roles and then lie about how you used these.

I doubt he did though. Seems like a waste of points (and it was 100% safe to claim).

That spread of points seems like a really stupid bid. If that's really what you bid on you should feel silly.

Is that what your strategy would be? What would you normally do as town?
