I interpreted the usage of the word "directly" to mean that, while you can't dream someone to death, you can dream up an ability that will allow you to kill someone.

Also in any case, it says "directly cause a death during the night" which doesn't prohibit the possibilty of dreaming up some sort of dayvig ability.

While not impossible, the fact that you can't directly kill a player via dreaming and the fact that dreams are subject to my interpretation means that it is very unlikely for your dream to result in a death (see my example where dreaming about getting a gun for the day only ended up in roleblocking another player).
