Interesting. This time it didn't happen. I haven't checked the site from when I last posted yesterday.
Is it random or are there external factors?

I am pretty sure that the unapproved topic is hidden for all but five people on the entire site. My educated guess is to place the blame on that thread.

I see. Can you move that thread to the hidden subforum then?

Probably what you're seeing is that when I post in Help, I usually approve the unapproved (or throw them away, if they're spam).
Those really shouldn't count against the forum for 'unread', though... that's a bug. I'll see if phpBB has a fix yet.

Try posting in one of the many activation threads and then delete it. Maybe there is the problem.

That makes a ton of sense. Mostly because this is how I imagine it (let me know how far off I am):
When a new topic is created, it changes the "forum has unread posts" status of every user who isn't the poster, which, once the post is read, will turn back into a "forum has no unread posts" status. However, when you move the only topic that's unread OUT of it, there is never a chance for the person to read it unless they manually click "mark all topics read."
It only makes sense that we have this problem. Because what other way is the system going to work? Should it check each forum and each post every time we send a new pageload? That sounds far too server-intensive.
Not sure if there IS a good fix here, but if there is, I will be the first to admit I was wrong and welcome it with open arms.

So, I'm back again, asking for things that I think would be neat, but probably no one else cares about.
I think it would be really useful if we could (in iso view) have, next to the Real#, the total number of posts in the thread. 'Twould be a simple way to see, at a glance, how many posts have elapsed since a particular players last post. (Obviously, I only see the utility of this in the last isopost, but I imagine it's simpler to code it into every iso-post rather than only the final one). This came to me when I realized that I'm always going from iso-view to thread-view to find out how many posts since a given player's last.
Of course, not at all urgent, but it would make me happy (and save a handful of pageviews).
Anyone else?

I had never thought of using that timeframe as a metric for anything. It shouldn't be hard to do (the variables SHOULD all be there already), but I'd want to see more interest first. Also where would you put it? And would it suffice to stick it on the Activity Overview page, perhaps under the topic title?

Butbutbut, if you ISO someone, you see that. It's to the right of 'First unread post'.

Eh? I don't think it is...

Look to right of 'First unread post' (see 637 posts) -> ISO CDB -> Look at same spot (See 1 post)

I was thinking of the following:
{graphic read|unread} Post #xx Real # yy of #zz {Total} ยป Mon Jul 11, 2011 hh:mm pm
The word 'Total' would be optional. It's just adding the display of the total number of threadposts on that same line that the RealPost# variable was added.
Make sense?
(Also, Flay, I'm not talking about length of time between a player's last post and the last threadpost, I'm talking number of posts. Subtle difference, and useful.)

No, that shows the total iso posts. I want the total threadposts, alongside the total isoposts. (Besides, that total of isoposts is at the top of the page, and the last isopost is always at the bottom. I'm lazy, shoot me.)

*scratches head* Now I'm confused. I thought you were asking for the last
time
the thread was posted in, so you could see how long it had been since they were in thread compared to actual thread activity...
I'm not sure what total posts would tell you. Total posts since their last post, maybe? That's a new/different calculation...

ISO anyone -> See Post [#] Real [#] >> [Date]

I am clearly not explaining this well enough.
Sorry.

You want, total number of posts in-thread by all, and total number of posts in-thread by said user?

He wants them on the
same screen
, I believe.

He wants to see the total number of posts in the thread in isolation view in order to see how many posts have been made since the user's most recent post.

Yeah, I still feel that would be better on the Activity Overview. "X posts ago" or "X posts back", maybe?

But it's
USELESS on Activity Overview.
Kison gets it. (Well, Flay gets it, too, but won't give it to me.
)

Well he is right. It doesn't really seem appropriately placed where you're suggesting.
There is a portion of the page that says, for example in this thread, "647 posts * page 26 of 26"
What if it were to say in isolation "XX posts(647 total) * page X of X"
That would provide what you're looking for.

Yep. That's a good idea and it's pretty good.

Unsure if this is a new broken thing, or if I'm just inattentive.
I've seen several instances of emoticons in quoted messages that are not showing as emoticons, but : igmeou : (no spaces, obv). It's only happening in my PMs, not threads.
Has it always been this way?
