IMO, this provides more evidence that Elli is town. An outright attack against a claim that supports his protown-ness doesn't feel scummy. Maybe a scum would have tried to express a suspicion for what seemed to be a random claim of his townness, but a forthright dismissal of the comment seems non-scum.

My reason for initial Elli town read. Keyword in bold. "I Tierce is wrong". Elli thought about the premise behind Tierce's claim. If he was scum, he would have known whether Tierce's claim was either correct or wrong, regardless of the reason. This knowledge would have made it less interesting for him to think about Tierce's argument. Even if he did think about the flaws in Tierce's argument, I would think that Elli would have taken a more aggressive approach against Tierce (unless they are scums together). His passive, hesitant approach made it look like, to me, that he was genuinely trying to figure out whether Tierce's claim is true, which is not possible if Elli is scum
