It's really impossible to say what would have happened on N1 if I claimed VT, or if having me around on D2 would have been better than having DP or Skitter. The only thing that's clear is that a suspicious vanilla townie forced scum into wasting a 1-shot strongman on N1 in a game with a town role cop and doctor. If you don't look at who the player is, that's a good result for town 99% of the time.

I mean, you yourself town read nom after light cc'ing you. The idea that multiple investigation roles existed is a thing and I just choose to believe nom over you. Your observation that nom had to be scum bc she didn't die is p good but no one else made that observation either. Why is it on me to do so? Also scum sometimes intentionally don't kill prs for this exact reason

Scum PT is what I expected. Very active, which is always nice to see in a winning team. But I don't see any indication that scum intentionally benefited from my claim, so I'm going to stand by my analysis that the "VT faking cop on D1" tactic isn't "bad." Scum definitely weren't happy about wasting the 1-shot strongman on me, and the game looked quite uncomfortable for scum after that, at least until the point Dunn shot Teacher.

To be sure, it's possible that my survival changes the game's outcome. If I'm left alive until D3, or if I convince Dunn to townread Teacher before end of D2, town likely wins. But convincing Dunn seems unlikely. So the big question is, would scum leave me alive until D3 if I claimed VT?

Maybe? They were already talking about killing me N1 or N2 before I claimed cop, so there's a very good chance they still kill me, sans strongman of course. It's a slightly different game but the outcome probably remains the same, unfortunately. But there's maybe slightly better chances for town overall if I claim VT.

So while I agree that it's bad for me personally to fake cop on D1, given how useful my presence in the game could be, I still think faking is a useful strategy for players who know their reads aren't great. The advice that newbies shouldn't fake claim is correct in the newbie setup, but not in closed setups where there's a lot of opportunity to screw with scum's night actions, imo.

I know lots of people are against this because it runs up against the idea that town should strive to be honest, but practically-speaking, principled honesty isn't always the best or only strategy. Just my take on this.

This was an interesting game to say the least.

I used to try to uphold 100% honesty but after more experience on fm, I found myself telling little lies as town... nothing like a super lie but just little lies to try gaining advantage over scum.

It's very much like life where it may not always be best to tell the whole truth to certain people.
