Oh man, so close.

Apparently catboi's shot was randomized. If he'd hit literally anyone else, we would have won.

Good game though. I really liked the setup + flavor.

This setup started with the idea of the 'An Innocent Threat'; I wanted something to encourage activity and discussion right from the start. The rest of the roles kinda fell into place along the way. Originally I had way too many 'A Proxy' and not enough 'Elvis Impersonator', but thanks to farside's review I was able to see it was too townsided. The 'Emergency Room Thief' was also an 'A Proxy' at first.

With the flavor I was aiming for something more abstract to let me play around with the flavor and experiment. I thought a more drama-oriented would be interesting instead of a standard good guys(town) vs. bad guys(mafia). In the beginning I was hoping to give the impression town was fighting for the Kid's life and the story would end based on how well they did. I ended up not wanting to focus on that because it felt a tad cruel making scum responsible for the kid dying. Never quite got around to incorporating the ER Thief or DMT EMT. Would've been the EMT who pulled the kid from crash, and some delving into the DMT chemical and neardeath experiences and possibly some references to the Spirit Molecule documentary(haven't gotten around to seeing that either). Thief was created after the fact for balance so I wasn't too keen on forcing it into the story.

As a mod, having actions that only activated on death was nice. Besides a slight awkwardness on the timing of sending PMs, it is very easy to keep track and resolve. And I don't have to really worry about flaking causing power unbalances since the actions will activate anyway. (Also, one of my main goals of this setup was to try to mitigate that feeling of "being lynched/nked sucks")

Spoiler: Setup & Role PMs
9 Town, 3 Scum

SCUM
1 Elvis Impersonator (on dying: picks someone to be a king)
1 Emergency Room Thief (on dying: takes a vote away from someone)
1 DMT EMT (on dying: picks someone to protect from one abnormal death)

TOWN
3 Elvis Impersonator
1 An Innocent Threat (modified innocent child)
1 Dying Goddess (modified dreaming god)
1 Love Must Go On (on dying: picks two players to be lovers)
2 A Proxy
1 DMT EMT

Elvis Impersonator

All you've ever wanted was to be
The King
of anything, no matter how small. Tragically you don't have the chops to do more than wishful thinking. Your dreams and paychecks are drowning at the bottom of a beer bottle; a scratchy wig and polyester suit, your sole possessions to pass on.

Part of
Realities
, you know the true nature of things. You
vote during the day
to maintain the lies that hold things together.

Upon dying you must
select one person
to become a King
(kingmaker variant)
the following day
(24 hours after dying to submit, otherwise random)
. If more than one person happens to be King on the same day: neither can execute a player, instead the Kings will be the only ones votable for the day.

The reality:
the roles False Hopes play:
3 Elvis Impersonator, 1 An Innocent Threat, 1 Dying God, 1 Love Must Go On, 2 A Proxy, 1 DMT EMT

Talk
day and night
in the Waiting Room about your
faction's nightkill
, or whatever else you need to discuss to pass those dreaded hours.

Emergency Room Thief

It's all an act to feed your addiction, the screams of pain, pretending to be persecuted by a broken body. So long as you can snatch up an orange bottle or white pad, you'll cry wolf any number of times. Even if you do happen to be dying, the opportunity to steal is too compelling to ignore.

Part of
Realities

vote during the day
to maintain the lies that hold things together.

Upon dying you must
select a person's vote
to permanently take away

DMT EMT

It's all gone spiritual somewhere between the hallucinogens and saving people. You've seen too many near-deathers during the latenight, sleepdeprived, drugsflyingabout-in-the-back, ambulance rides not to think that there is something behind the madness. Something barely keeping the trickle small like a bandaid on a ruptured artery.

Part of
Realities

to maintain the lies that hold things together.

Upon dying you must
select one person to protect
from death - only the first time they would die and lynches excluded.

An Innocent Threat

A tiny distraction is all it takes. Something so pure and bright and typical becomes the downfall of us all.

Part of
False Hopes
, you
vote during the day
to rid this imaginary world of cancerous entities.

You are an Innocent Child.

Halfway through a day
(7 irl days)
you are
doomed to die
,
except
if a lynch is reached before time runs out.

Whenever you do die . . . you must
pick one person to die with you
.
(24 hours after dying to submit, otherwise random)

Dying Goddess

Your form pales, soon into dust. . . . Soon even deathbed conversions may not be enough to sustain you. Will there be a light at the end of your tunnel? Or will there be a train to drag you down?

Part of
False Hopes
, you
vote during the day
to rid this imaginary world of cancerous entities.

Every time someone dies at night, including yourself, you must
select a fate for a person(s)
(24 hours after death to submit, otherwise random)
.

Fates

Another threat!
Staying together for all the wrong reasons
(2 names required)

Pump that stomach! Save the liver!
A Banshee's Wo-woah-WAAIILL
Image

Love Must Go On

Maybe you watched too many rom-coms, or are shaded a bit grey, but you've always wanted to guilt two people into a destructive relationship. Your brain's gone mushy with the prospect.

Part of
False Hopes
, you
vote during the day
to rid this imaginary world of cancerous entities.

Upon dying you
must select two people
to become Lovers for the remainder of the game.

A Proxy

Pulling the plug on someone is never easy. If something were to happen to you, would you want someone else to make that decision?

Part of
False Hopes
, you
vote during the day
to rid this imaginary world of cancerous entities.

Upon dying you must
give your vote
to someone for the rest of the game
(24 hours after dying to submit, otherwise random)

Great game, thanks 4nxi3ty! Loved the story!

The last few Days I was sweating for the kid, waiting for the flips. I love the way the flips got played out in your comics.

I'm definitely going to nominate this for Best Flavor and Best Setup. I cared more about figuring this game out more than any in recent memory, and it really reminded me how great a good game can feel like, win or lose. It's definitely one of my favorites so far.

We definitely got screwed a bit by the random chance there, but I still had a ton of fun. The flavor was insanely fun and the game itself was really well designed. My only real gripe was how many lynch reducers scum had. We probably had a bit too much of an advantage there IMO.

In post 448, Bulbazak wrote:If we're assuming the typical 3 person mafia, then the team is Jingles/Ams/Rubicon.
I'm actually surprised how accurate I was. We just lynched the wrong person. Also, I want to thank you Jingle. If it wasn't for you, I would have been clueless as far as the makeup of the scum team, and I would not have realized that Jon was lynchbait, most likely resulting in his death. Your trolling essentially gave town a fighting chance.

Acknowledged. We were probably too secure in the Rubi shot not happening. In my defense though, as a scumteam we had decided that we didn't care if yes got executed.
