Fate was there any fucking pattern to my stupid role?
No, you assmoron, those were two different roles and one of them was AV's.

Wait wait wait.
So Staeg, did you choose NOT TO USE YOUR POWER Night 1?

Erm... yeah? How does that cancel the scum's nightkill?

I didn't get to breadcrumb any actions because AV trollhammered quadz (I think that's the reason), so hiding behind anyone but spyrex would be suicide, which wouldn't yield much, anyway.

Yeah. But I didn't want to be conftown just yet. I wasn't going to be lynched until D3 at least.

You weren't the confirmed town... the person you hid behind was.
You're a "one-shot weak cop". >.>

You were a one-shot hider-esque cop. You die and your target is confirmed scum, or you live and you become mod-confirmed town (confirming your target by proxy).
If I had your role in this game, I would have overtly crumbed my target and shot N1. Suiciding 1-1 for scum is a fantastic trade, likewise confirming someone who would otherwise be mislynched or vig'd FORCES SCUM TO NK SOMEONE THEY WOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO NK. You could have saved a stronger player by confirming one of the weak ones, or just flat-out caught scum.
The Staeg kill was actually one of our most controversial, I think. In my mind he was the most town among the non-celebrity players in this game, making him an unlikely doc candidate. I even called him very town in-thread, which is a read that very few people shared in practice. I could have been caught if anyone asked themselves "who thought Staeg was town, or a threat?" because so many other town players dismissed him. We weren't sure whether he had a tower or not when we shot.
Speaking of powers, we knew Spyrex was
something
going into N1. It was pretty obv that he was eager for a round of nightplay, which is why we opted to redirect him onto himself. I assumed he had an investigate role of some sort until he claimed a gun.

No, the problem is, I couldn't breadcrumb my results due to the trollhammer. In retrospect I should've done it sooner, but blech.

I dont have much to say about this game that hasn't already been said. There was a lot of weight that drug the town down and you guys capitalized on it and my inability to punish activity in the midst of nothingness.

Tierce gets MVP this game, although my scum team could have reacted a little better to her reads. They outed themselves with their responses, I think.
My
real
complaint about the dead talking wasn't about reads. N1 action resolution was pretty unclear at that point in the game, before GI claimed out his N1 block on Spyrex. Knowing that Staeg was DEFINITELY the nightkill was information the town shouldn't have had so soon. Town should have been forced to share more data with each other to figure out that Staeg was shot.
This is the first time I've played with a deadtalk mechanic. I'd have to see it play out in more games, but I think sticking a bunch of full-reveal town in a room together and giving them PoE on an ongoing game might be a little too powerful if their communication with the living isn't restricted
severely
. For example, I'd try this mechanic and allow dead players to only quote x things that have been posted (no editing, no molesting). We killed Tierce for a reason: limit the new perspective.
I kind of agree with the deadtalk mechanic being really strong. For example, we killed a power role N1. The deadtalk mechanic COMPLETELY undid our killing of that role by allowing the cop to come back and announce his actions for the night.
↑ GreyICE wrote:I don't.
Remember the scum should have had 2 extra kills thanks to the redirector/vig application, but they got RBed two nights in a row.
No, there's no "should have had 2 extra kills". The ONLY reason we were able to use that is because SpyreX made himself obviously the vigilante D1, which was excellent PR-hunting by Nuwen. That has literally zero to do with the setup and probabilities.
My Godfather ability was pretty useless, seeing as how only one role in the game could get a guilty on me... and if he did, he died.
The redirector was pretty much only useful because we pegged the vig D1. It wouldn't have been useful on the one-shot cop or the commuter.
The only other thing we got was a conditional strongman, if and only if we guessed the lynch for the following day. And the only thing the conditional strongman would've done is stopped GI from saving that person.
Town played their roles really poorly, thank GOD, because anyone with that power that was halfway competent would've steamrolled us.
Enjoyed the game, though <3

Uhh, how is redirecting the one-shot cop useless? Confirming a scummember as town, useless, how?

Because it also openly confirms the cop as town in the first post, and based on how Fate resolved the SpyreX redirect, I don't think the scummember would be "confirmed" as town, just the one-shot cop's "target".

I don't get a result, I simply see whether I live or not. If the town doesn't know scum have a redirector, wham, instawin.

The Day of Hearts was a self-balancing mechanic. Was it in favor of the town BECAUSE the cop had died? YES. But the cop had DIED so town was already losing out.
If TOWN were winning, had all their PRs alive, and scum had only shot vanillas, the card would allow a bunch of vanillas to speak and HERPDERP WHO CARES=no further advantage to town.
It was meant as an anti-swing.
The ONLY thing I'll concede is that I should've made the requirement for correct guesses from the Day of Spades to be=to half the town. ONLY LLD guessed AV's alignment right, and town should've been not rewarded for poor guesses.
That's the one thing I would've done differently in retrospect, made it perhaps a bit more fair.

I disagree here.
Bulletproof AND the potential to be action-confirmed as town is a very strong role in this setup, but it
requires that you not get lynched
. We could have easily won out in a 5 player lylo situation if you had stayed alive a little longer.
The redirector could have neutralized the cop investigate (one-shot). I actually thought Spyrex was a cop or tracker D1, which is why I requested that we redirect him onto himself: limit information as much as possible.
The combination of our next-day marks was very powerful in theory... but in practice, it's very difficult to get a specific target lynched without being able to predict the resolution of nightplay. This was evident the day AV got lynched (suspected Staeg investigate), when we double-marked CNH for both the strongman and the -1 to lynch. Likewise, a guilty in any form (jailkeep, investigate) completely throws off our prediction for the next day of play that early in the game. I don't see our auxiliary mechanics as things that would ever be activated without a fair bit of luck.
