There's no reason for them not to use it N1 -- all the potential anti-mafia stuff happens N1 (wolves could cross kill mafia, cop investigates Mafia) and since Mafia is underpowered compared to Wolves you'd definitely want to allow them to use it N1.

Using it N2 doesn't really help Mafia. They could save it till N3 though.

basically either

1) converted VTs never find out scum team and therefore can't really help their new team during the day

OR

2) converted VTs do find out scum team and when converted back out all the scum and town pretty much instantly wins

angels are sided with town I assume

basically it sucks ass to be a VT in this game. No one's going to be motivated to play because their alignment can just randomly change from night to night. This is kinda bad in cult games too, but it's REALLY bad here.

I'm saying the the town has no real incentive to do anything but lynch randomly because whether or not they end up on the winning side is fairly random

As long as you keep these "Mod is lying to you" roles to open setups I don't think it's terribly bastard. If that ever creeps into closed games you'll have a lot of angry people on your hands.

I do not get the appeal of nightstarts in general, but yeah, whatevs.

Its basically a game giving scum and town a little bit of sway over who is going to get the role, letting them do things like keep the cop out of strong town player hands, or vig out of a player they don't trust. Same time scum can avoid those roles going to certain players.

unintended side effect is that a scum fakeclaim could be immediately shut down due to town leader unknowingly blackballing scum from cop/vig, which i don't think you wanted
