PM Weirdness

The thing by my user cp says I have 0 new messages; my Inbox says (1). I have checked all my messages.

Only about 1/4 of my sent PMs make it out; the rest go to my Outbox to just sit and rot and won't send.

This is getting to be a real problem. I never know if my PMs have sent or not and if I should re-send them.

In a game, this once resulted in my scumteam sending in no actions for the night.

Someone help?!

Do you have any filters set up? Ofttimes I have "4 new messages" or w/e, and then I open it up, and only see 2 new ones in my inbox. But it's because I have a filter set up to direct all of the stuff labeled with "Metropolis" into my Modded Games folder, and I can see a (2) next to that one as well. If you don't have any filters set up, and you've already read all of your messages, and you're 100% sure that there is absolutely nothing unread, then there should be no (1) next to the Inbox.

As for the Sent vs Outbox issue:
-If your sent PMs are sitting in your Outbox, that means the recipient hasn't opened them yet.
-If they disappear from your Outbox and appear in your Sent folder, that means they've been opened.

Also, sort of the same thing, the (0 new messages) next to your User Control Panel link on the top left of the page will only show there being new messages until you open your inbox. Once you open it (whether or not you open the actual messages themselves), it will show as 0 once again. Then the only number you have to let you know whether you have unread messages is the number in parentheses next to your inbox, i.e. (1).

You probably have too many PMs in your inbox. It happens to me regularly.

If this is the case, you to your inbox and there will be a link saying 'release PMs that are on hold' or something to that effect, under the 'New PM' button. Delete some messages and click that and your messages should appear in your inbox.

Also, have you ever sent yourself a PM and then deleted it unread? I have a permanent (1) from that....

Outbox issue solved. Permanent 1 still not solved.

Sometimes sent pms just disappear, though. No outbox OR sent.

There's a messed up counter somewhere that causes the permanent +1. I've never bothered to go looking for it that hard (phpBB knows about it).

For me, the "User Control Panel (0 new messages)" tracks how many PMs have come in to my inbox since I last opened the inbox, while the "Inbox (1)" measures how many unopened PMs are sitting in my inbox right now.

I can't send any PMs at all atm. If i hit submit it previews it and if i hit preview it just deletes everything I've written. Kinda frustrating when I'm trying to send out roles.

You should only need to do this if you don't click the "Add" button after typing in the recipient's username.
