O.o Besides, wouldn't it be in the better interests of the mafia to wait the full day-cycle before choosing which mafia player represents them? that way they can see who is the most town-looking mafia in the town's eyes, and make sure they are the elected party.

Besides, I figured that this would be costing the mafia more than it would the town. the mafia has to find which of their members is more towny looking in the towns eye. If they don't know how everyone looks in the town's eye, they can't chose the townier one.

Yes. I volunteered before I read my PM. therefore, my volunteering should not be conducive of my alignment. I had no idea my alignment when I volunteered. I had had this thread in an open tab since the day it was made, and refreshed it every 40 minutes for 12-14 hours a day. And have done the same since. I immediately saw the game was open and volunteered, THEN checked my PMs.

not so, as, sicnethis is a new game mechanic I have never seen before, it could be seen as scummy to volunteer when looking townie, as the scum are allowed to volunteer just as much as the town are.

But since the scum are the informed minority, it makes all reads and tells more helpful to them, as they know the alignments, and we do not.

6 months on a chat-mafia rather than forum mafia playing 10 or so games a day that took from 15 minutes to an hour.

I call bullshit. It's far more likely that you looked at the 'Thread Opening' PM (which was sent at 1:59pm) and then rushed on over to the thread than it was you just happened to refresh on the thread the instant it opened.

Personally I think the setup was very town sided, just from randomly deciding on the election town has a 50% chance at success, if you add scumhunting and other factors to that it should jump significantly but I do think it was an interesting concept to test.

To be fair I don't think a lot of day one was Maruchans fault, when I was reading and following the game I found his actions to be highly town motivated and he was actually relatively obvious town. The fact that Timeater was instantly elected over him shocked me.

Well, I hope all you guys had fun for the most part. This was my first Themed game, and really, it was just a collection of gimmicks that I found interesting and put together. I'm not a big game designer or anything, so I just decided to try some stuff out for no specific reason other than it sounded "cool."

I thought about balance before this game, of course, and I probably would have guessed that it was town-sided. I thought of some ways to fix that, (like perhaps adding an extra townie and giving the scum the ability to, at one time in the game, decide to kill an obv-town nominee and revert back to Morning rather than forcing one of their own to go against them.) But that (and some other ideas) sounded too awkward, and I wasn't sure if the game would even be town-sided enough to warrant that. As TS pointed out, scum has a

lot

of influence in this game. The mafia had the physical power to win the Johhog and TS elections if they wanted to, but (rightly) they opted for town-cred instead. So while the EV is 50/50 with the candidate elected chosen randomly (actually more if the self-nominee is always chosen), the scum have way more power here than they would in a normal game.

I'm still not entirely sure about the balance. I was relieved that at least this

specific

game ended up being close. Overall, though, I think both Town and Mafia have a decent chance to win in this setup.

One problem which became noticeable around the mid-game was that the combination of the self-nominations and the 1v1 somewhat stifled scum-hunting, since there wasn't a lot of room to explore other options. Those ideas seemed cool in theory, but led to less exciting results. One thing I did enjoy was the WIFOM of "Why would scum nominate X" and stuff like that.

Meh. I'm not going to mark this game as a failure, since I don't think there was anything horribly wrong with it. I think it was worth trying out once, at least. Hopefully the rest of you don't feel like it was a waste of time. Congrats scum, and the town put forth a good effort.

Because 2 ppl didn't die. Whether we got that information in the Morning Phase/Evenign Phase is non-important. The only DIFFERENCE is if we get info in the morning phase, then scum ALSO had it in the afternoon phase.

Therefore I deprived town of nothing they couldn't still get (information in the evening phase, before any flips), BUT I DID deprive scum of something THEY could have gotten (information before they had to make a nomination)

The reason I would do that compared to the reason I did this are two completely different reasons.

I would do THAT for the lulz. Immediate dayvig. Like on EM, when there is a gunsmith and I am given a gun, I Immediately yell out a name and tell them to claim or die. If they claim and I feel inclined to believe it, they live and I move on to contestant #2. If they refuse to claim, they die.
