I can't disprove this speculative, but find it rather unlikely. About half the people on my wagon voted without even giving a reason, so even if, theoretically, I'd be brought up to a hammering total and flipped town today, all that'd be needed would be a "eh, we're better off without him anyway" so absolutely no suspicion would come upon those on my wagon.

In short, he doesn't need to distance.
