AIM scumChat

I know this may outside the bounds of your Help scope, but why does the link aim:gochat?roomname=ScumChat&Exchange=5 do absolutely nothing for me?

In Chrome it does nothing. New tab? Blank screen, not even loading.

IE says "Protocol not found".

Going here and logging in shows nothing: http://www.aim.com/

TIA if you can shed some light on this.

I could be wrong but I think you have to have an aim client of some kind (AIM itself, Trillian, etc) actually installed. I don't think Express version works.

The new clients have never worked for me. I had to find version 5 or 6 to use Scumchat.

I didn't use aim before 4.something, I'm just going off of what I read online, it could be wrong.

Well, you are only 24 right? AIM was shittier back then... but... no buddy lists?
I don't remember that far back and I used to use it forever ago (stopped using IM altogether when Gmail came out).

Maybe try this and find out?: http://www.4shared.com/folder/0Oh81J08/AIM_31.html
(Warning: I don't know if the exe download has viruses or even if it works... I just did a search.)

My lack of AIM use isn't related to my age but my nationality, I didn't really use AIM until I needed it for scumchat. Here other messengers were and are much more popular.

Incidentally, what nationality are you?

I don't think I have anything AOL-related installed on any computers (since like 2000). Do I have to install some sort of software or can it be reached by the web version of AIM?>

Why don't we move Scumchat to something more usable, anyway?

Cause then it wouldn't be scumchat? There is a facebook group that you can chat on, and we had a site chat(that you are too new to have seen) and will again eventually in theory.

1: it never actually worked properly in chrome
2: hohum needs to setup the jabber server again, which I have 0 control over.
