1) What draws you to play the game of Mafia? What are some of your favorite things about the game?
~~~I am drawn to the hunt. I like watching the interactions of the players, and looking for the little inconsistencies.
2) Do you tend to take the game very seriously and become aggressive/defensive or do you take a light hearted approach and just go with the flow?
~~~Very lighthearted. I am very aware of how serious I can get, so watch for it always.
3) How much do you value your gut reads in comparison to another players reads? Do you tend to doubt yourself or tunnel your suspects?
~~~I always trust my gut, but will alter my opinion if someone else presents a well reasoned, well thought out case. But I tunnel heavily on my chosen case.I am a sad, strange little man.
Ok, first serious vote: VOTE: Xegarus
I feel like the claim is an attempt to cast doubt on his alignment early that he can point to later.
I never claimed it was a good tactic, just that that what it looked like. As I mentioned, I operate mostly on gut reads. My gut tells me the only reason for a PAGE one, much less day one, claim is to try and establish doubt for your self later. From my point of view, it is a fairly scummy action. If your other comments alter my perception of you, then my vote will change.
↑ Xegarus wrote:
So you're voting for me because you think it MAY be useful for me, if i was scum, in the future?
So you're voting for me because i haven't done anything scummy but i may in the future?
Have you got any evidence that i may do something? Or is the RC all you're basing this off?
So why not vote for everyone? Especially those that haven't done anything scummy cause they may do something in the future.
Or are you just working your way down the list?
Voting because the choice to RC this early seems scummy to me. That answers your second question.
I do not have any evidence that you may do something in the future, since that is impossible. Time only flows one way, remember? I am indeed basing my vote on the RC. That is the only thing I have to go on.
That last bit is clearly ridiculous anger baiting. No response.I am a sad, strange little man.
Wow. A crappy image instead of trying to actually refute my assertion, and a revenge vote with absolutely no supporting reasons? I at least had a reason for my vote, weather that reason was right or wrong.
I gotta tell ya, Xegarus, you are not doing yourself any favors. You just keep gathering scum points.I am a sad, strange little man.
So, let me try to follow this;
1) I saw a scummy aspect in your post, which led me to vote you.
2) You are complaining that I voted you for very little reason.
3) You voted me, simply because you feel my vote on you was scummy.
I'm sorry, I still don't see how that was not an OMGUS vote.
And I stand by my comment about the image. A JPG is not an argument. If you have issue with how and why em+ voted, voice it in an intelligible manner. This game is about words. Lies and half truths rule here, not the person who uses Google better.
Sorry if that comes off harsh, but I expected better from a claimed law student. Words should be your bread and butter, more so even than an english major.I am a sad, strange little man.
↑ Xegarus wrote:
Are you sure its always good to lynch everyday, especially D1?
If you lynch say on D1, you have a chance of getting scum, which is great but you also have a chance getting town. Now N1, a town will always be killed. So by lynching eveyday, you increase the chance of losing 2 town compared to only loosing 1.
Now i know that eliminating scum is how you win the game for town. But can't that be said as keeping as many townies alive?
YES.
The entire point of this game is to look for inconsistencies in the statements made by others. To gather information that will lead to discovering the scum. Everything, including a town lynch, provides information.
Look at it this way: If you mislynch, then you can look at who pushed that lynch, who abstained, and who defended the lynchee. All of that provides insights into the people involved.
Saying you would rather lessen the available information is either a tremendous noob move, or extremely scummy.
Also: "But can't that be said as keeping as many townies alive?" No. Every town player, alive or dead, wins if town wins. You only need 2 town alive to win. While losing town is regrettable, it is an almost unavoidable part of the game.I am a sad, strange little man.
Honestly? I have not given it much thought. It seems a lot like fishing to me. Almost like he was hoping I would reflexively shout, "But I am so totally not scum, you guys!" I am not sure he thinks I am scum, but it looks like he might.
I am still not sure how my targeting of a scummy action makes me scummy, but whatever.
I will say that the post quoted by you is a very buddy-buddy post by TheDoctor. Scum buddy level? That remains to be seen.I am a sad, strange little man.
...and? You voted me. If you really want my lynched over it, find other things I did that are scummy, and bring them to the attention of the other players. See, that is part 2 of this game; being convincing. You have to get the other players to believe your argument.
Trust me, I am watching you very closely for that very reason. As soon as I find enough scummy behavior, I will really begin pushing for your lynch. Right now, there is simply not enough there to justify it. You are not scummy enough to lynch yet.
Edit: Again, it is subjective. To you, it was not a big deal. To me, it was and remains a very scummy action. You can't simply say, "It was not scummy!" and expect everyone to back off. They will retain their opinions regardless. I don't feel that my vote was scummy at all, but my opinion on my action does not matter. Everyone else's does.I am a sad, strange little man.
So, Xeg, tell me; Why are you obeying orders from someone you have never met?
And CF, if you are not scumbuddies with Xeg, why the hell are you playing on the inexperience of a newbie to push your lynch?I am a sad, strange little man.
Sorry, it just looks a whole hell of a lot like you told him what to do, which...
...he then proceded to do, almost as if you and he have some sort of agreement.
Now, Xeg has not really been on the site long enough to have been in another game, so why else is he so buddy-buddy with you? I can think of one reason. Lets take a look here;
Wow, it certainly looks like you are ordering him around. Almost the way a more experienced scum will lead a newbie scum.
So tell me, Xeg, what is your reason? Cause this seems to indicate you had none until told to vote.I am a sad, strange little man.
Oh, and very nice recovery there! Well, almost a good recovery. After ordering your scum buddy to vote you ask him why he thought Smash was scum! Brilliant! If only Xeg could think of something to say. But a Fantastic Job anyway! /sarcasm
The time is right whenever you have reason. There is no benefit to withholding your vote reason, but it does make you look scummy.
But, as you say, you won't talk about it anymore. Fine. Just know that is a very scummy action as well. Makes you look like you are waiting on a prearranged signal, which, in case it was not obvious, is something only scum could arrange.I am a sad, strange little man.
Why does seeing it before make it a good thing to do? As mentioned before, you must convince the other players to come around to your point of view. It would seem, at a casual glance, that any supporting argument you are capable of providing is a boon to this task.
And yet, Xeg refused to provide his mystery reason, and you are defending an action that runs counter to the objectives of the game. WHY? I would expect you to have the most problem, since it was your question Xeg avoided. And yet, here you are, defending him yet again.
And on top of that, you cant even muster an intelligent argument to anything I have said;
...that's it? The wall of text only illicits a personal attack? you have absolutely nothing else to say?
pedit: Enlighten me, what could he possibly be doing other then scum hunting? Either he is scum hunting, and withholding a supporting argument is stupid, or he is aiming for a completely different goal. What could that be? You tell me. Really. I want to know. Cause every fiber of my being is telling me that is either a very stupid play, or he is scum.
And quite frankly, you are looking scummy right now too. I dislike you jumping in to defend objectively stupid plays. There does not seem to be much point to it, unless you have some reason to want him alive.I am a sad, strange little man.
...and? I have seen scum do towny things. Does that mean they were not scum? No. Just because plenty of town do those things does not mean scum don't do them too.
And again, because there are no objective scum tells, I am going to reserve my right to keep my vote on him. All of his play so far is incredibly scummy, in my opinion.
Oh, and before you jump on me again, if you want my vote removed, it is your job to convince me that it needs to be removed. Your little, "I saw this before, it is not scummy." does not cut the mustard on that point.
And lets look at your post, shall we? Here we go:
How the hell do you know? And why, when you are jumping all over everyone else, do you ignore, and defend, a player who completely blew off your question? WHY ARE YOU SUCH A BUDDY WITH XEG? What benefit are you deriving from defending all his actions? WHY DO YOU NEED HIM ALIVE SO BAD? If you are serious about not being scum, I need a really good reason why you are doing this. The only reason I can imagine is you have a scum reason.
↑ CF Riot wrote:Stupid play doesn't always mean scum play. Especially in a newbie game. If you're town you can check your posts for reference. That's still remains to be seen in my book though. So tl;dr, the point is I've seen enough town do what Xeg's doing to know it's not a scumtell. At least not for certain, like you and Smash are saying.
And you ignore the important part of what I said, once again. So, I will make sure you see it this time:
YOUI am a sad, strange little man.
CF, YOU ARE SCUM, AND AFTER WE LYNCH XEG, I WILL BE COMING AFTER YOU.
Now, actually respond to that, please.
@xeg: The RC, the refusal to reveal reason, and then the crappy reason itself. Pressure still works, even if the person knows they are being pressured. That was a really stupid reason to hold in reserve, especially when all it did, in the grand scheme, is make you look worse.I am a sad, strange little man.
Sorry, life got busy there for a bit. I will be answering your questions later. First...
That is stupid and irresponsible. The moment you hit L-1, you claim, every time. It will likely halt a mislynch, and can lead to a win. There is nothing wrong with a claim under that situation, but a refusal to claim looks bad on you.I am a sad, strange little man.
There is no reason I can think of. Even in a set up that allows for someone to potentially watch their night action, it is still a kill. If I am wrong, someone tell me, but we seem to have a protective role. Now, I just want to know who it was, and who was protected. That would give us a leg up on the suspect.I am a sad, strange little man.
If I am wrong, someone tell me, but we seem to have a protective role. Now, I just want to know who it was, and who was protected. That would give us a leg up on the suspect.
How would this give us a leg up on the suspect?
The only reason I could imagine you would jump right out of the gate with wanting answers as to why we were lucky enough to not suffer a nightkill tells me you're frustrated scum. Which is shocking to me, because you were so pro-town yesterday. Maybe you jumping on Xegar & CF Riot was just grasping at straws after all?
Vote: Dyrnify
Please, tell me how knowing who was protected will help us figure out who actually did the kill?
Do you have reason to believe a Jailkeeper exists?
Easy. This only went one of two ways, to my way of thinking; either someone Doctored the kill target, or someone Jailed the killer. Either way, a roleclaim provides valuable info.
Let's look at the doctor scenario. If it was a doc, they protected the scum target. meaning they protected someone who really ticked of the scum yesterday, enough to want to kill soon. I won't speculate on who that might me, I am still backreading and assessing my reads. But, that is irrelevant. If we know the target, we can begin the investigation with the person they butted heads with the most yesterday. It is not perfect, but a good place to start.
Now, the Jailkeeper roughly the same, but with differences. If the jailor chose to target a scummy player, then they got lucky and prevented the kill. If they instead decided to protect town, they got lucky and blocked the kill. Either way, a RC from a jailkeeper, along with who they targeted, gives us a good point to go on as well.
Now, as for the jailkeeper/doctor question, I don't really know which it is. But there is one, I am sure. Even newbie scum knows to attack every single night. Not doing so is so foolish as to be downright stupid. I mean, it is the whole point of the game, if you are scum. Not killing as scum is like no-lynching on day one; a really dumb idea.I am a sad, strange little man.
Again, not suggesting we do it. It is a dangerous plan with only short term gains. I don't want it to happen. I was asked a question on how it would work, and answered.
So, once more, lets say this big and loud:I DON'T WANT OR EXPECT TO SEE A RC ON THIS. IT WOULD BE STUPID. I DO WANT TO KNOW, BUT NOT AT THE TOWNS EXPENSE. I AM SIMPLY ANSWERING A QUESTION, NOT ADVOCATING A COURSE OF ACTION.I am a sad, strange little man.
Nope. I am putting a lot of emphasis on why the information would be valuable. Anyone can see that the knowledge gleaned from a RC would be useful. But it is a very bad thing to do right now. The PR we have right now knows, 100%, that they succeeded. A kill did not happen. Now, all they have to do is use what they know to hunt for the scum. Staying concealed makes that much easier.
And now, for a short list on reads:
- Xegarus: Still reading scummy, but his late D1 play brought that down a few pegs. We will see how he shapes up today, but he is on the list
- em+p_dear: I am agreeing with Nacho at this point. em looks fairly scummy. 8 total posts in the game, and realistically very little content. A quick on/off bandwagon jump D1, and nothing of substance today looks like scum lurking to my eyes.
- Om: Seems to me like he is genuinely scumhunting, but I dislike the short posts. Maybe that is a personal quirk, but it feels off somehow. Town.
- kitiekatt: Hm. Definitly active, asking questions, moving around. I would say town.
- CF Riot: Scum. From flipping on his opinion of Xeg's RC in his first 5 posts, to his blatant ordering of Xeg, I just cant shake the feeling of scum from him.
- Smashbard: Town. Very heavy scum hunting, and in an intelligent, non insulting way. Call me a prude, but I don't think the insults add anything to the game. In fact, it has been my experience that they detract from the game in direct proportion to their frequency of use.
- Nachomamma8: Reading Nacho is like reading an upside down, backwards, Chinese, legal text book, printed in grey ink on white paper, in the dark. I don't follow on all of his reads, but a clear town in my mind.
I am a sad, strange little man.
So if you agree with Nacho that Empdear is scummy, how you do feel about Om's analysis that Nacho formerly thought Empdear was town Day 1? Have you always felt Empdear was scummy and it's just convenient that Nacho now agrees with you?
I don't know, it's odd me to that you say Nacho is virtually unreadable, but in the same breath say he's clear town.
I realize that it's very unlikely that you are scum at this point, I'm just trying to understand how you are getting to your conclusions.
Well, to be frank, I don't think there is much there. Nacho only made two posts mentioning em as town, and they amount to a gut read. In the intervening time, em has continued posting nothing of value. And that is what lead to my read, frankly. She was not on my radar at all, because of her lurking. Reading back, the lurking stood out.
And Nacho is hard to read, but what I do get is all town. I can't find a single scummy post.
↑ Om wrote:@Dry; Short is always beautiful. Why make long ass posts full of WIFOM when you can carry same message in short one liner's. Also, it avoids confusion from my part since English isn't even in my top 3 languages. Sorry if it bothers you :/
Btw, What do you think CF had to achieve by jumping on Doc's wagon? Not to mention; making all those risky moves like pressure voting Bard and refusing to give reason's for his vote on Doc, if he was a scum, what's the point of doing all that when he could have easily shipped on Doc's wagon from get go?
I did not realize english was not your first language. You use it quite well.
Again, dyry, now truthful: why that post?
Actually, I did want to know. You may only ask those questions in a purely rhetorical sense, but I do, and did, want to know.
And no, I have not put up the same output as D1, but I have been ill, and quite frankly really lost, D2. I keep losing my reads on everyone, because most everyone is acting townie, at least to some degree. I am fairly sure on Emp, but it seems that everyone is jumping that lynch now that I voted.
TheTrollie is ACTING like he's convinced that Om and Dyrnify are scum. Without the conviction of a vote.
Om says that Dyrnify and myself are scum. Without the conviction of a vote.
Emp Dear is being very cryptic about who she suspects, but seems to agree with me that Dyrnify is scum.
Is there a reason why we are more satisfied splitting the remaining town into two wagons when literally every single one of us thinks that Dyrnify is scum, while only most of are are convinced of Om's scumminess (Emp Dear and Dyrnify being the two people remaining unsure)?
Does it really matter in what order we lynch them?
Mykonian: Do you believe that Om is Dyrnify's only possible scumpartner, but not that Dyrnify is Om's only scumpartner? That's the only thing I can think of that's holding you back from lynching Dyr at this point.
And I still feel in my gut that he is scum. But like I said, I have no choice but to believe that he is town because everyone else believes he's town. I'll have a nice "I told you so" moment post game if TheTrollie ends up being scum though.
But none of that has ever changed the fact that Dyrnify has always been scum in my eyes since his quickhammer. I'm not letting him get away with it twice.
