Semi-experienced (SE) players are here because they have completed at least two games.
The Inexperience Challenged (IC) player is here because he/she has completed at least five games, has been a part of MafiaScum for at least three months, and has elected to be this teaching role. It is recommended they follow the Being a Good IC guidelines.
or VOTE: Your Mom’s Face. If they are not bolded, they will not be counted, and I will inform you of your error so you can correct it.
Unvotes are not required.
Nicknames are allowed when voting so long as I can easily decipher who you are referring to.
In order for a lynch to occur, a majority of votes must be reached. A majority is one half of the living players plus one.
No lynches are allowed. The same voting rules apply to voting for a no lynch (i.e. bolded, majority must be reached).
Once a voting decision is made, and the final majority vote is placed, no amount of unvoting will prevent this action from occurring – even if I am not online at the time of the final vote.
If a majority is not reached by deadline, there will be a no lynch.
Deadlines for each game day are three weeks long. Deadline extensions will only be granted under extreme circumstances. Deadline extensions will not exceed five days.
Once a lynch has been made, the game enters twilight. All players who were alive before the lynch (including the newly lynched player) may continue posting until I am available to lock the thread and post the lynch scene.
Once you die, you are no longer allowed to post until end-game (excluding the scenario above).
“Bah” posts are not allowed. Once you’re dead, you’re dead.
Nights will last three days. They may be cut short at my discretion.
Night actions may be submitted via QuickTopic (if you have one) or PM. If you do not wish to submit an action, let me know by saying, “no action” or some variation thereof.
If an action is not submitted by night’s deadline, it will be taken as a no action.
Prods, Replacements, and Modkills
Prods will be issued via PM.
Prods will be sent after a player has not posted in-game for approximately seventy-two hours (unless you have notified me that you will be V/LA). This may be shortened if the activity is slow.
If there is not a response to the prod in approximately forty-eight hours (may be adjusted to match the prod time-limit), I will begin searching for a replacement. If you respond before I find a replacement, you are allowed to continue playing.
Once a player receives three prods (i.e. once you are due for a forth), I will begin searching for a replacement. Even if you return before I find a replacement, you will not get another chance to continue playing.
I would appreciate it if you would post in-thread (even if you have it set in your control panel) or PM me when you will be V/LA (Vacation/Limited Access). If I believe your V/LA will last too long, I will replace you.
If you feel the need to request a replacement, please PM me doing so. If I consider the reasons very selfish, I may deem it fit that you must find a replacement for me.
If you break any of these rules, I reserve the right to replace or modkill you.
If you are modkilled for breaking one of these rules, it will be done in a manner that hurts your faction. (i.e. if you’re town, day will end. If you are scum, day will continue). You will also be turned into a neutral survivor, so you are unable to claim a victory or loss.
If I make an error that could break the game, I reserve the right to replace or modkill you. If it
is
an error on my part, you and your faction will not be punished.
General
The Mafia Scum Rules apply in this game, as well as my own. If any of them contradict, please feel free to notify me.
Under no circumstances are you allowed to contact a player within this game about this game while this game is ongoing, unless your Role PM states otherwise.
Personal feuds are not allowed, and if they get out of hand, I will force-replace or modkill the offenders.
Quoting anything from me (including Role PM’s) that is said outside of this game thread is prohibited. Pretending to quote something is prohibited as well. Paraphrasing is allowed.
Bold
all requests to me, so it is less likely for me to miss them. If the topic you wish to discuss is personal or has to do with a serious mod error (one that could break the game), please address me via PM.
Editing or deleting posts is not allowed. You shouldn’t have this ability to begin with, but if you do, do not use it.
Do not use ridiculously small, invisible, or encrypted text.
Navy is my color. Don’t use it.
I will try to provide a vote count on every page.
As the moderator of this game, I reserve the right to change, add, or remove any of these rules at any time. I also reserve the right to replace or modkill any offenders, with or without a warning.
Etiquette
Vulgar language is allowed; however, excessive amounts (to the point where you’re trying to be vulgar) are not. I will warn you if you become unnecessarily crude. If you continue, I will modkill or replace you.
If anyone has a problem with vulgar language, feel free to PM me about it, and I will make any necessary changes to the above rule in order to accommodate your wishes.
Please don’t go missing without informing me first.
If you are getting angry with someone, take a break and relax. It’s just a game. Don’t make it personal.
Be mature. We aren’t in elementary school anymore. Use your big-boy words if you’re in an argument.
. During the night phase and before the game starts, you may speak to your partner in this [QuickTopic]. You are not allowed to PM your partner (or any other player). Each night, one of you or your partner may perform a kill, and your partner may perform a Role Cop investigation -
you may not
. You are to notify me of your choice via QuickTopic or PM. If you do not notify me of a decision before night's deadline, I will count it as a No Action.
You win when you control 50% of the town or nothing can prevent this from occurring.

Hi there, I'm your IC for this game. Tracey's already posted (in post 0) the main gist of the job, but I'll clarify a bit more. What "IC" means is that I will answer your theory questions truthfully and try to give you some explanation of this site's meta.
That's right,
I will not lie to you
about theory.
Now, you may be thinking "no fair, she's got more experience, clearly she will pwn newbs". That's only somewhat true. Some newbies have played many a game of Mafia elsewhere. Besides this, experience counts against me as well: you all are able to look up my past games and see how I've played in them. I can't because most of you don't have any. So it's a fairly even split.
I've played a few games on other sites years ago (and a lot of live games at Origins one particular year) and perhaps the theory has evolved a bit since then, but it seems games on this site run at a much higher level. Having determined this after a read through a few other games, I feel a very workable strategy for scum in newbie games is to just not post very often, even claiming (maybe it's the truth, who knows) to have somewhat limited time to devote to the game. Dropping in once a week to provide a slim set of reads and not getting involved in townies arguing with each other is a great way for scum to look like they're trying to play but mostly have people forget about them. I sincerely hope that everyone in this game is dedicated to providing useful dialog, and won't just prod-dodge. Not contributing to active discussion is anti-town. That doesn't mean posting and saying hi every day, it means at very least making commentary about what's going on even if you're not sure where they participants stand.
I was going to have a paragraph here ranting about the random voting stage, but in the process I came to the conclusion that it does serve one useful purpose: to get people that have some votes thrown their way talking about something substantial, even if it is to say that all the votes on them are random. Just the process of coming out of one's shell and showing how one responds to pressure, even baseless pressure, is information the town can potentially use to its advantage. That's not to say that I love the random voting stage, and think there are some other very good ways to break the ice - starting off with introductions is quite useful in games like this one where people for the most part don't know a damn thing about each other - but RVS seems to be firmly entrenched on this site and I have to play the same game as everyone else. So here goes my vote for the person whose name I hate the most.
VOTE: goodmorning
I don't like mornings and I really don't like being bombarded with pleasantries first thing in the morning every day at work, so your name is a major turn-off for me. Sorry.
I'm fairly new to the site too. I have two completed games, including a Newbie game where I was scum. We won. I have fairly extensive game experience on other sites where the pools of players were much smaller and player meta was a useful part of the game analysis. I'm enjoying playing with players who are unknown quantities. It's much more challenging that way.
I don't like RVS either and so far haven't put down random votes in the games I've played here. I decided not to make this game a first, but I do agree with you about the potential usefulness of the random voting stage. When I put a vote down, it will be for a post-related reason.
@I: Oddly enough I picked it as the less offensive of the two names I was considering, but "I hate mornings" is an RVS reasoning I see occasionally. (I hate them too, don't worry.)
YES, what you're describing in your first paragraph looks like active lurking and it's definitely part of this site's Scum meta. So, yeah, SPOT ON, SIR
As for your second paragraph: for me, RVS is just useful in that it gets things going. Sometimes that testing-the-waters stage of the game takes too long, and random voting is a way to jump in off the deep end. The response to pressure thing is good though. I've seen games in which L-1or2 RVS wagons get going, and they can be a great example of that.
Some people here hate RVS, and you are (now and in future) by no means required to participate in it. (You might get non-participation used as an RVS excuse against you though.)
Introductions can be good, but sometimes they can benefit Scum unduly.
But don't awaken the Elder Gods before this game is over, I'd rather like to keep winning games. ;]
@fffff: Good to know.
If anyone wants a bit of sharing is caring from me, here's a brief rundown:
I've played occasional RL games over the past 7 years.
I played online at one site previously, they're much less serious than here which is kind of relaxing in tandem with this.
I've just completed my tenth game onsite and I do have them up on my wiki page for now.
My first game here, it's been a painful wait but I'm pleased it landed to Tracey who is an excellent mod from what I've seen (Hi Tracy, and happy (belated) birthday!)
Overall I'm pretty new to mafia, have played a handful games on other sites, and followed a few games here in the waiting period. I'm really looking forward to it. Have a couple of wins under my belt including one scum game, and I've contributed to some terribad town performances.
Re: Eye Urn's point: From what I've seen so far I hope we have game full of active players. I think lynching absentees sucks, but the fact that a typical scum ploy is to go for inactives it makes it a great place for them to hide, as any town player who suggests it instantly looks suss. It's also anti-town to not contribute at least to clearing yourself, why give scum the information advantage?
RVS is no biggie to me, maybe that will change when I know more people or when I have a better idea how useful or pointless the whole exercise can be.
