5. Look at the big picture, even if you are tunneling on one player to figure them out do not get so tied to tunneling on them, you miss important stuff about other players.

6. Have at least a bit of suspicion about everyone, question everyone and weigh out everything.

@ Everyone, did I fuck up this morning? Yes. Alot of noise (my point of view) is generated as result and for that I am responsible. My only read right now that selkies is town, someone asked why and my reasoning is kinda hard to put into words. I think orc doesnt probe as hard as scum, see the unvotes by ffer, revote by orc, I feel like a scum would think "I have made my point, I dont have to provoke anymore", while a townie who doesnt understand someones action will continue the probing, something orc excels at.

Ffer on the other hand goes back and forth, tries to interact and reread.

Maybe that's partially a hydra thing where one head didn't see it and the other one was catching up. - No, I don't think town always fully explains their reads, but explaining reads does give more information, this information leads toward more discussion, so it's a good thing it happens; whether the actual reads are right though, is a different judgment.

I don't like how heavily convinced Varsoon is that Selkies is the best vote. His case seems too weak. Also, while he may not believe in voting in RVS, I don't think it's very good to completely ignore the RVS in a game and not take it into account.

As far as my simultaneously vindicating Rach as town and others as scum, I often make links in my head thinking "These two can't be a scum team" because it can help my PoE in the long run if I ever need it to make a decision. If you don't believe me, check my meta, but it's clear how you feel about that. I respect it, anyway. Meta's not worth my time.

Now here's the thing: I knew Varsoon IRL a while back, like four years ago. Dude's clever. I'm not surprised he placed a trap with post 50. I'm not surprised he placed a post-quota trap in his first newbie game. So I don't think he's lying, especially when he tries to describe how things can be better than RVS.

I had to really search I don't get scum roles much, frriggen Doc seems to be my most common role I get (not a claim in this game BTW, talking in general from my first game N 1206 on). Icebox is also a bit of a hydra with two very different heads. Rem seems to be the goofy joking one and GiF seems to be more of a logical player, which is good for me since it is easier for me to read those kind of players.

Need to stalk Bo too a bit I have seen him around the site a fair bit and he was in one of the Newbie games I read when I first joined to learn more about the game. I spent like 2 weeks researching the Wiki and reading up on games before I inned the Newbie queue for my first game. (most of which got lost in the crash). I saw Bo play then replace out but cant remember the game name and I think it got lost anyways.

Earlier, Orcinus was leaning scum on you. I've more Null, maybe just maybe town. We're going with my read for now.

I think we're kind of divided on Majiffy. And I'd like to get info needed to recalibrate on Bo if warranted, though it would mean my scum pile is basically people who need to post more. And it would make figuring Rach out more of a priority.

This is where I am at, plus Majiffy will be resolved in time, he is a hard player to read early, so I think time is better spent on someone else.

Actually, volume seems to trend towards being pro-scum. Townies have a tendency to replace out, their replacements won't read, cases aren't made... turns into a lot of town apathy. Check out NY 161 for a prime example of this; all of the scum team was repeatedly getting called out starting with me on D1, but because of the pace of the game, the town became incredibly apathetic.

FYI, my activity level is completely dependent on how busy things are at work. Luckily, I'm back home today so it should hopefully be slower so I can get on the same page as you guys.

What led to the 180? Orcinus' gut has similar ideas, even though he had Rach at null-town based on content. Still, he doesn't trust her due to prior game experience.

I've read it, with most of my focus on day 1. In that game she's more assertive, more questioning, and she's putting reads down. IME sometimes scum are cautious about reads because they worry about needing to back off the read later. Not all scum players are that way, of course. But, it's a difference between the two games in her play and could be alignment-indicative.

In this game, her posts commenting on in-thread stuff that has nothing to do with figuring players out kind of stand out by comparison. But, that quantity of non-hunting posts is also driven by the size of the thread. I guess you'd have to think about it as a percentage, and add a fudge factor for annoyance with the occasional sprint-posting blitz and the thread size.

If you can explain to me why having fluid reads in inherently townie and why sticking to early, firm town reads is scummy, sure.

Basicly, its very easy to scum when all you need is to make one read then refer back to it. While in fact townies are unsure and alert and changes their reads as the game progresses and more information becomes avaible.

yep DO is famous for slipping in and out but mostly lurking when he is scum. He is a lot better at it than Siv though so often gets away with it. (Yes I know Siv is not in this game, it is just a comparison).

I think its a standing rule on the site that a hammer without intent gets policy lynched. So there would in most cases be someone going "stating intent to hammer" and hours would pass.

I don't know yet.. I lean town overall on you I think because you've been helpful at giving advice on how to deal with a fast moving game and seem to be leading the charge in getting people to post/helping form reads. But I'm a bit weary because you're the one that suggested the voting bloc, and I worry if I'm being blinded by you taking the lead.

Think of it like this, if I am alive at the end of the game you can start worrying, it makes it easier. Also, say that I am town, why cant I be town leader as town? It stems from an apetite for winning. But yes, I can probably take the lead role as scum aswell.

If town starts working together as a collective, scum has to focus on destroying the collective first, rather than focusing on PRs and supporting mislynches, because otherwise the bloc will widdle down the remaining players to a town autowin scenario. Which is why, in general, they're a really pro-town thing to get going.

They're actually incredibly effective.

How so? I can understand this later in the game once people have seen flips/associative tells/PR abilities used possibly that lets people feel confident as who is town. But this early on, seems like it's either formed by a scum trying to buddy townies, or if led by a townie, they run the risk of accidentally including a scum who hasn't slipped yet and the scum erks through until it's too late.

Offcourse its possible. But basicly what a townblock is is that it contains consencous townies. You only have your reads to go on at day 1 so.

I also feel like it is easier to add townies to a "trust pact" and limiting the pool of where scum can be, but thats just how I float.

I agree being town leader if town is good, and I don't feel like you would be a good lynch today. But, I'm still weary of a bloc. @Selkies, as to who in the bloc could be scum, I don't have a good feel yet. I find it hard to read you because you guys (both Selkies) talk to each other in thread a lot that it makes it confusing trying to figure out if it's real or scum trying to play both sides. I'd rather focus on Rach, who I think has been scummy and keep an eye on how the rest respond and develop more reads tomorrow.


@Sven I do get that I haven't posted as much content as everyone, sand you seem like you form reads more from live interaction, so want more. (this is the first game here where I've chatted in real time with people.. I'm used to a slower pace, where I can read the game during down time in the day and post at leisure)

Ok, so this won't be a wall, but it's a summary of what Orcinus and I have been discussing for the last hour or so.

- Iceblock's post 672 (the wall) bothered us a lot. Some of the spoilered observations and questions didn't appear to mesh all that well with the reads. The two that were most troubling were Rach and Bo. GiF's recent posts have settled most of those concerns.

- We think there was at least scum on the DO wagon. When the Rach wagon started to collapse it seemed like the DO wagon sprang up with a lot of momentum. Orcinus and I were considering a DO pressure-wagon a little earlier. The DO wagon seemed to have too much steam for a pressure wagon. It bothered Orcinus tht Majiffy had so little comment on that wagon, given that 3 of his town reads (I think) were on it. However, he made a comment about Varsoon losing some town shine around that time.

Rach has moved in a townward direction.
Majiffy has moved in a townward direction.
The DO bandwagon speed makes us wonder if he/DGB are town.

Bo has moved down
Jennifer hasn't exactly moved, but we were hoping to get something more than null from her by now.
There is probably more buried in our chatlog that I can dig out with more coffee.

We are in agreement on everything.

I think the immediate course of action should be to vote less and give people time to consider their reads in the light of the last 24 hours worth of posts.
