At the moment, mafiascum.net allows both uploaded and offsite avatars. There is a limit on uploaded avatars (both dimensions and file size). However, this limit does not apply to offsite avatars.

In the near future, that will change. Whether the limit is applied to offsite avatars or the option for offsite avatars is removed completely, this will affect anyone whose avatar is currently larger than a certain size. I am posting this here so that those affected will have time to modify their avatar or come up with a replacement.

The limit might be increased a bit (to 100x100); I haven't decided on that yet.

Since the pixels on my monitor are so ridiculously small, I usually have Firefox with font sizes bumped massively up so that I can actually read it. So 80x80 is a bit small, 100x100 is good, and I wouldn't mind 120x100 or 120x120 or 100x120. This isn't really all that bad a forum and generally people use appropriate avatars when it comes to size, file size and content, so I'm not sure if it's worth the time to code it all.

It isn't like this other forum I visited, where someone had a very pretty animated avatar... well, I thought it was nice until I realised it was 1.6 MB (and I'm not exaggerating)

Since this is a mafia forum, the best way to deal with people with annoying avatars is just to lynch them until they know better.

Offsite avatars are now disabled. The limits for uploaded avatars have been increased to 100x100 and 10kb.

DP, if you want I can resize yours and keep the animations.... that goes for anybody who needs to move theirs to onsite hosting. I've got some experience with making avatars fit this size and filesize requirements.

For the record, I've always kept my avatars within 150x150. They may be a bit large, but if they were smaller than 150 pixels, they never messed with the page margins. I'm all for stopping the ridiculous avatars, but I think we should be realistic about what works.

Also, this removes any reason to link to offsite avatars. Are you concerned that now 100% of the MafiaScum avatars will be stored on-site, eating up bandwidth?
