I'm not dogmatic about it, but there are very few situations in which it might make sense for a town player to lie.*

* in a recent game where I played as a hydra with orcinus, we had the innocent child role. orcinus convinced me that we should claim PGO at twilight of day 1, and we did. It worked out ok, though both scum and the doc targeted us on night 2 to test our claim. We outed on day 3. Because our claim would be mod-verified, we felt like the lie would not get us lynched and might get us far enough into the game that a confirmed townie could make a difference in the lynch outcome. It worked.

I don't have any clue what noeffenclue is seeing in Sugar Cain, but I think noeffenclue is town. Need to see more from Sugar Cain to determine their alignment.

We feel pretty damn confident about what we're seeing in their posts so far.

Roughly how much game experience do you have with Ms Marangal and Nero Cain? Can you usually get an accurate read one or both? Assuming you can answer that without compromising your main.

I'm not playing to my MS town meta in this game. neither is Ineffective. If we were, the thread would be a hell of a lot longer than 6 pages. Perhaps even more alarming is my vote. I have always been very slow to put down a vote at MS and I usually telegraph my intentions well before the vote. An unsupported vote on page 3 should raise the neck hairs of anyone who knows my on-site meta.

I am intentionally following my non-MS style of play in this game. I'll probably be playing more like this than like my prior MS games in the future if, as I expect, it's effective.

So, your townreading me is giving me a bad case of hives.

But, that's not all!

After the Cain head skirmished with us a bit nearly 48 hours ago, Sugar Cain went silent. When next we heard from Sugar Cain, it was your post, which came across premeditated and thoughtful, and even like an appeal or truce flag.

All of this, and I haven't touched on what originally drew our vote. Nor will I for now.

In every game i have played on MS my opening involves an awkward debate with someone and an agressive posture or some silly reaction test that nobody likes. My scumgame on popcorn was an intentional duplication of that. Ffer hates voting early but is similar in the level of early involvement to get the game moving as town. Niether one of us have displayed anything that could meta-tell us as town... If you were to try to meta read us you should come up with something as being entirely unusual

Sugar Cain initially caught our eye because although they had made a fair number of posts compared to other players, we could see nothing in those posts that reflected a town motivation. Cain comes off almost trollish, and Mara looks uncomfortable to my eye. There is no effort to make this hydra look seamless, which is something I've noticed she takes pride in doing with other hydras, to the point where she gets angry about being addressed by her main name. And in post #57 Mara put down a vote on a pitifully easy lynch candidate, TIP.

So on page 3 we voted them. We thought a vote might snap them into focusing on the game. That's not precisely what happened, but what did happen was not a disappointment.

Post #81 jumps to a conclusion about the reason for our vote, calling it a piggy-back Though a little more sophisticated than the garden variety, this post reeks of OMGUS.

Post #85 comes off...creepy. "I want to kill", not "I want to vote" or "I want to lynch". It's usually a scum mindset that phrases things this way IME.

Post #90 he reiterates the false reasoning about our vote decision.

We spar for a couple more posts, and then Cain disappears. And we hear nothing from Sugar Cain until nearly 48 hours later.

Post 129 is then made by Mara. The tone of this post is conciliatory. It comes off as a buddying effort to me, and I was the ostensible target, with maybe a little divide and conquer thrown in for good measure. And she moves their vote off us an back onto TIP.

I called Mara on her claim that I was playing to my town meta.

She came back with stuff about subtle meta, claiming that my "paranoia" was familiar from the polygamy game. And yes, I was paranoid in that game. I was playing with a bunch of people for the first time, and I didn't like the nightless game format. In this game, I am not a cloud of free floating paranoia. I am focused right now on one slot that first raised my suspicions, and then did not disappoint once the chase was up.

Post 145 is a jewel. When I first read it, I was mollified...was this townfeel? But no. Sentence by sentence, it is not:

1."why y'all changing your meta." - explained already. It's not "my" meta. I've been compromising my game parameters while I learned site meta and adjusted to a months-long game format, and figured out how to fit the style of play I prefer into this format.

2. "And you never will 'cause you have nothing. On one hand this could be some bullshit reaction test. On the other hand (and what its looking like to me) is you're scum and by saying "I hope people are seeing what we are seeing" and expect another player to claim what they "see" and you'll latch onto it." - purely defense by offence, which has been the case all along. He doesn't want to hear what our case consisted of. he wants to dismiss it sight unseen.

3. "Other than being flat out wrong about our alignment, this is also extremely anti-town for a few reasons. 1.) No townie in their right mind is going to blindly sheep you."" - hoping for a self-fullfilling prophecy?

"I see no reason for a supposed town (with a pre-made case) to not voice their opinion and attempt to convince the town that we should be the days lynch." - every new post he's made is a case on its own. I think he realizes this, and hopes to distract from it by handwaving about the unseen case.

"And the longer you withhold said "reasoning", you hold the game hostage. Which transitions nicely to my second point.
- "holding the game hostage". as though that is even possible while actively participating.
2.) We have 6 days left. The longer you withhold said reasoning the less time that the town has to discuss the case on us and possibly/hopefully on someone else. There's also the fact that early game no lynchs are a bad idea so with holding reasoning and not allowing town to discuss...the closer to dl town will say "fuck it" and lynch willy nilly."

We do not have six days left. At the time this post was made, we had 10 days. This creates a false sense of urgency, in the hopes of getting other players to dismiss our concerns. And, hilariously, this section comes off as though he knows he is talking to a town player and making a plea for reasonableness.

And finally:

a. They are the most likely possibilities,

We feel pretty damn confident. We haven't seen anything in their posts since Sunday night when our suspicions were first raised that suggest they could be town.

So, we're either right or we're hideously, horribly confirmation biased.

eff's scumdar is awesome and he'll death tunnel his top scum read straight through and out the other side.

My scumdar is good, but I'm not as confident especially in an environment like this where the rules are different and there are always a ton of unfamiliar players to figure out. I will second guess and reevaluate.

Nero always comes off as trollish, that's how he plays the game. Surprisingly, he is able to use that kinda play to catch scum and he's a fairly decent player

As for Hydra head unification, my pride in that is circumstantial to each head. right now, I only have one Hydra where I would prefer to be called out as the hydra name rather then the separate players, the one with Mala might be going down that road as well.

I'm uncomfortable because I'm not agreeing with a fair amount of what Nero is doing.

Nothing raises my neck hairs like an early-game and poorly supported town read on me, because the only people who know for sure that I am town are me and scum. I am readable, but not that easily read especially during the first few pages of a game when I am deliberately evolving my gameplay. Mara may eventually develop a track record of reading me early and accurately. That is not the case in this game.

I'm trying to figure out if that sort of dissonance is town-like. in th first game that orcinus and I played as Selkies we had some extreme differences of opinion on a couple of players. We put the disagreements on hold until one of us would change our mind. We did not try to convince other players to vote the people we disagreed on.

Is there plausible deniability once our alignment is known? Maybe. The disagreement itself doesn't bother me so much as the acting on it.

Did I say that? Sounds like something I'd say so ok. The traditional chainsaw is scum attacks town for attacking a scumbuddy. Through my "career" I've constantly seen scum attack town for attacking town. So in my view, a chainsaw it just a player A attacks player B for attacking players C. Player A is still very likely to be scum but its not dependent on player C's alignment like the old one was.

We've been on you since page 3. It's been consistent irrespective of other stuff going on in the thread I can see characterizing that as tunneling. I don't see how you get to chainsawing you over TIP.

My personal take on TIP is similar to Aeris' comments. He's dropping tells left and right, but it's a murky picture due to so many of those tells potentially being alignment neutral due to newbiness.

Now that the effect of hiding the origional reason has passed, i think its time to say--- this was the post that made me message ffer and say "this is scum" at first ffer was like"maybe"--- then as posting continued we saw nothing but similar content for a while "hey look at me im town"
