Now taking sign-ups: Plessiez (Large Normal, 20 players)
My game has no title. It is also lacking in exciting flavour. Or any other sort of flavour. And I have no pre-/ins. These facts may be connected...

I do have rules though?

Spoiler:
0) The site-wide rules are here. Read them. Don't break them.

Ethics

(Don't cheat, don't be a terrible person and don't ruin the game for others.)

1) Remember that this is a game: treat your fellow players with respect and avoid harassment or personal attacks. PM the mod if you have a problem with another player's behaviour: don't respond in kind.
2) Insults, slurs or offensive comments which are based on or allude to any other player's culture, disability, ethnicity, gender, mental health, nationality, race, religion or sexual orientation will not be tolerated.
3) Inform the mod immediately if you are ever exposed to outside information about the game-state that could influence your subsequent approach to the game. Do not post in the game until the mod has responded.
4) Don't pretend to break the rules, offer to break the rules, encourage other people to break the rules or try to hide the fact a rule has been broken.

Sportsmanship

(Don't try to do anything 'clever' to break the game.)

5) Dead people can't post. Not even to say “bah”. Once the mod says you're dead, you can't post in this thread until the mod says the game is over.
6) Don't hide hidden messages in your posts using cryptography. (Very basic steganography is probably fine, but check with the mod in advance if you have any doubts.)
7) Don't use any form of provable randomness (such as dice tags). Claiming to have made a decision at random is fine; being able to prove that you did this is not fine.
8) Don't post links to any external notes or analysis made during the game; don't post links to any QTs given to you by the mod.

Game Mechanics

(How might the mechanics of this game differ from the last game you played?)

9) Before the game starts, everyone is asked to confirm receipt of their role PM by PMing the mod the name of their role and faction. The thread will be unlocked and Day 1 will start as soon as all but three players have confirmed.
10) Votes must be in bold and begin
(UN)VOTE:
or
(Un)Vote:
but use of the vote tags is optional. A vote for a name not technically on the living player list counts as valid as long as it is clear to the mod who you meant to vote for.
11) Each game day will end as soon as more than half of the living players are voting for the same option, or if
two weeks
have passed since the day began.
12) Between the day ending and the mod announcing that night has begun, anybody who was alive as of the mod's last post may continue to post.
13) All nights will last
48 hours
. Any actions sent in after this period will not count. All actions should either be PMed to the mod or made in bold in a mod-provided QT. Day begins as soon as the mod announces it has begun in the game thread.
14) The game ends once a faction has achieved its winning conditions and the mod has posted on the thread to confirm this. Even if you think (or know) that the outcome of the game has been decided, please don't reveal the result or start discussing the game until the final scene goes up.

Activity

(How not to get prodded or replaced.)

15) All players should post at least once every
48 hours
to avoid being prodded. If you know that you will not be able to do so, please contact the mod to arrange a V/LA. Any V/LA or prod will be announced on thread by the mod.
16) A replacement will be sought for any player who fails to respond to a prod within
24 hours
or has to be prodded an excessive number of times during the game. (Players may also be replaced by their own request, but please only request replacement if you really can't continue with the game).

Other

(Modkills, mod colour, mod errors and mod clarifications)

17) The mod's colour is
purple
. Please don't use it yourself.
18) If you think the mod has made an error in a vote count or in (not) announcing a prod, please point the error out in-thread (try starting
@MOD
to get the mod's attention...).
19) For other mistakes, or if you have questions about how your role works, contact the mod privately. Don't necessarily expect an answer, especially to hypothetical questions.
20) The mod reserves the right to clarify, edit, add to or other modify these rules during the game (but this will only happen if the mod realises they've made a mistake). All changes will be announced in-thread.

Days will last no more than
two weeks
. Nights will last a fixed
48 hours
.

During the day, people who do not post for
48 hours
will be prodded. Prods will be announced in the thread. People who do not respond to prods within
24 hours
may be replaced.

No hydra, please.

In my case? Peer pressure. (As typified by this thread, among several others.)

There's a large number of players who really dislike hydras. Running a game with any hydra in it means that either these players don't sign up at all or that they do sign up only to spend large parts of the game loudly whinging about how awful hydras are. Since banning hydras shouldn't stop anyone from playing if they really want to, it just feels like the easiest/simplest way to avoid the issue.

I quite like hydras myself, as it happens -- although my take on an "ideal" hydra seems to be the opposite of what people currently find acceptable (most people seem to think hydra should be forced to sign all their posts individually, for instance: I'd rather hydra didn't sign their posts at all and did their best to play as a single unified player). But I know from experience that they can be a bit of a pain to mod, and I won't miss them much.

(If I thought that lots of people were avoiding the game because they wanted to hydra, then I guess I'd have more of a dilemma. I don't believe that that's the case though.)
