SET-UP SUMMARIZED

This game consists of eight explorers and four temple guards. The town is divided into six teams, each designated with a color and an animal. Any given team may contain 0, 1, or 2 temple guards. Teammates may converse at any time. Temple Guards may converse at any time.

There are no nights, and lynches will work based on the Challenge system, as elaborated below.

RULES

1. Enjoy yourself.
2. Everybody is allowed to talk to their partner at any time. Temple Guards may also talk to each other at any time. No other outside-the-thread communication between players is acceptable.
3. No quoting mod PMs or direct quotes from a private QT. Doing so results in a modkill.
4. If I botch something, let me know and I will fix it.
5. No jackassery. If you have to ask yourself if something counts as jackassery or not, the answer is probably "Yes".
6. This is the first nightless game I have ever ran, so I'm not quite sure what to do about deadlines. I mean, ending the day and going on to the next day doesn't actually effect anything. So let's agree to not be jerks by intentionally stalling the game for no reason.
7. No quoting mod PMs or direct quotes from private QTs. Seriously, don't do it.

9. At the beginning of each day, the eligible pool of players who can be lynched will be empty. As such, I won't bother keeping track of votes until a challenge is issued.
10. Any player may issue a challenge at any time, but only one challenge overall can be issued per day. To make a challenge, post in bold

11. Once a challenge has been issued, the pool of players who can be lynched will expand to include up to four names: the team that was challenged and the team that issued that challenge. Remember, once a challenge has been issued the game will not move on until one of those players is lynched.
12. For your vote to be counted, it must be bold, and in the form

13. You MUST unvote before changing your vote. Again, unvotes must be bold to count.
14. A lynch will occur at n/2 + 1 votes, rounded down to the nearest integer, where n is the number of votes currently in play. Day will end with the lynch.

16. If a lynch occurs, then the game enters ‘twilight’, where all alive players apart from the player who has been lynched are allowed to freely converse (but not allowed to cast any votes) until I lock the thread and post a death scene.
17. Once you are dead, you are free to make one “bah” like post, but nothing more.

Rumors of treasures hidden in the jungle had been told for centuries, but nobody alive had ever seen them with their own eyes. Nevertheless, occasionally an expedition would set out, searching for the Hidden Temple. Many of these expeditions came back empty-handed, but occasionally they did not come back at all. Were they claimed by a combination of the jungle and bad luck? Or did the ancient temple guards of legend still carry out their duty by leading would-be treasure hunters to their doom?

The latest expedition departed on a hot Thursday evening. They would discover the truth soon enough...

Trouble faced the expedition almost immediately; as they went to camp for the night it was revealed that some of the supplies had been sabotaged. Indeed, while there had been rations for twelve people at the start, there were now only rations for eleven. Somebody would have to be left behind.

StrangerCoug was accused of being a Temple Guard in disguise and was kicked out of the group. This solved the rations problem, but there was still an unnerving feeling that the expedition was still in danger...

The first physical obstacle the expedition faced was the river. Although four teams were able to cross without incident, two teams were forced to share a makeshift boat. Unfortunately, it quickly became obvious that the boat would not support the weight of all four members, and somebody would have to be jettisoned. Eventually, Nobody Special was shoved out of the boat where he quickly succumbed to the rapids. In the last moment before he went under, everybody noticed a tattoo on his hand that clearly resembled the ancient insignia of the Temple Guards. The expedition was safely across the river, but what dangers lurked ahead?

After the incident at the river, the expedition kept on adventuring until they reached the fabled Steps of Knowledge! This was a sign the the group was surely getting closer to the Hidden Temple. However, according to the legend, a curse awaited any group that did not abandon one member at the Steps. The expedition used their knowledge that Amrun was a secret Temple Guard to decide to abandon Amrun. The expedition descended the Steps, but there was an uneasy feeling that the path to the Hidden Temple had just become more difficult...

Eventually the expedition reached a clearing in the jungle, and their spirits lifted. Here was the fabled site of the legendary Temple Games! Surely the Hidden Temple was nearby! After some careful searching, the group found eight Pendants of Life, which according to legend were necessary to find the Temple. However, with nine people and only eight pendants, somebody would have to be left behind. Elyse was accused of being a Temple Guard and was denied a Pendant.

It used to be. Now the family members who took over hosting the tournament don't have a lawn big enough for a regulation size court, so we have to play on this shitty strip of grass that goes down a hill while curving to the right the entire time. Two years ago they used a BS interpretation of the out-of-bounds rule that actually made it advantageous to end your turn by going OB, which, due to the aforementioned slope, happened a lot.

I know I'm not going to have fun because I'm just going to sperg out about the rules the whole time, and thanks to my personality, NOT doing that isn't an option. I mean, I once started a fight on a camping trip by rules-lawyering a game of Uno played with Rugrats-themed cards.

However, it wasn't time to celebrate yet; retrieving the treasures within would likely prove to be as difficult as finding the temple in the first place. Jesus Christ, this game.

I gather that a lot of people are glad for this game to be over. Truth be told, I understand the sentiment. The insane amount of activity near the beginning made it almost impossible to keep track of everything, and I want to give a HUGE thank you to all three of the replacements for putting up with that crazy amount of reading. Then as soon as Amrun got lynched, something in everybody's brain toggled and activity dropped to a glacial pace.

I like how the challenge mechanic worked out, although I did not expect the town to initiate every single challenge. At no point was there ever a scenario where only town could be lynched, so the scum deserve credit for arguing their way out of the occasional tight spot. AP in particular did an excellent job of not only deflecting his lynch but elevating himself to near the top of peoples' townlists. For the most part, though, I think this game was won less with good scumplay and more by poor townplay.

well it was nice to feel good about making it to endgame as scum for the first time on this site for a few hours at least.

itt the gm pretty much calls the scum team pitiful and the ever1 thinks I did a sucky job including 1 of my scummates.

I'm not saying the scumteam was pitiful; I just think the town created an atmosphere that made the scumteam's job a lot easier than it needed to be. Wisdom summed it up best a few pages ago:

But yeah, you can figure out by how town is trying to blame each other now, how bad this town was.

As for your play in particular, you did an excellent job of using the neighbor mechanic to get Majiffy on your side for most of the game and by the time he figured it out the town wanted to lynch him instead of you, so I wouldn't say you did a sucky job. Making it to the endgame is your win condition and you did that; that's a good job in my book.
