Tried it in a forum and from Bookmarks.

Both cases take me to the top of the first page in thread with an unread post.

Was it on a Global Announcement?

Nope. Eveything on my laptop. On my phone now, it is working okay. Maybe just need a browser restart (64 bit waterfox, if relevant).

Yeah, sounds like sort of issue with your cookie/browser? Were the threads marked correctly with the unread symbol once the thread was loaded? They really should have been, because all of that stuff is saved server-side, not browser-side, for MafiaScum. The only thing it doesn't work right on is Global Announcements.

it does it for me too when there's not an unread message.

Yeah, but that's by design.

What skin are you using? I know that the mobile skin's First Unread Post is borked (it gives me a load screen forever).

I use mafsep on both. The new posts on the laptop are marked with the red icon. I'll try again soon.

just out of curiosity, why? It doesn't matter to me enough to make anyone do any heavy lifting, but ideally I'd have it go to the last post.

I meant by phpBB's design. I can see an argument for going the other way, but I think it's been that way in all versions of the forum software.

Huh...just realized the 'jump to last post' by a poster's name is doing the same thing.

When you click one, does the URL end in unread#unread?

Computer rebooted this morning. Was doing it then and now:

http://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.ph ... ead#unread (The SI Site Chat thread, iirc).

Have you attempted a more mainline browser? I can't really see any reason this would be happening server-side.

Not from the laptop. I will when i get home. Hasn't been an issue before.

Worked alright in IE...I can't find another phpBB forum in my bookmarks to test against.

I don't buy gas that only uses 2 of the 4 cylinders in my totally hyper fast Celica, so why would I use a browser that only computes on 32 bits of my 64 bit processor?

Sheeple, I swear :P

Also, does it change the diagnosis if a direct link from an ISO also dumps at the top of the page?

I haven't added any extensions recently and what I do have plays nice with MS as far as cookies, etc (although NoScript does block Google Analytics).

phpbb.com would be an easy phpbb forum to check against :)

FWIW, this has been broken for me for the past few days too, but only at work, where I have to use a version of Firefox that's about 5 years out of date, so I see it as a problem my end rather than a problem with the site.

Is there any kind of user agent detection thingamajig that had to be reloaded post site burp that would make some browsers behave funny?

I don't think so, and that is core html functionality (anchors).

Another way to troubleshoot on your end would be to look at the page source and see if it even shows an id="unread" tag. That might indicate a rendering problem.

Yup, mine is directing to this type of url:

http://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.ph ... ead#unread

And it sometimes initially loads at the first unread post (with the red page icon next to it), but then always immediately bounces back up to the top of the page instead. It's the same with any kind of url that should direct to a particular post, eg:
http://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.ph ... 2#p5117912

So it's weird because it's almost working but then not. But it only started doing this recently, so I'm not sure what could have changed.
