I have a few reasons for reading bork as town but one of them involved me agreeing with his #76. I'd read your questions up until that point (and a bit beyond) and I don't really see how any of them would illicit alignment-indicative replies.

For example, I thought your focus in #65 was really weird. The bork/TIP exchange had been decently developed by that point and the bolded just seemed like a pretty small thing to highlight or dig into (personally, I thought TIP's remark there was some throwaway facetious thing). Maybe it's because I'm tired or something but I read over that question and thought about possible responses TIP could have given and I don't really see what TIP could have said that would have given you some insight into his alignment. I have the same problem with #74 too. I just don't really see what the point of those questions were.

Anyway, I know it's probably frustrating to do, but can you walk me through what you were going for there?

(P.S.: I haven't taken a shot at the VN yet, but I wasn't a fan of the Umineko anime personally.)

Anyway, to answer your questions in order. Firstly, I didn't particularly care why you read Bork as town so confidently. I was interested in knowing whether it was a gut read or had a explicit reasoning, and I was interested in your kneejerk response because I thought I'd get a good read from you. Unfortunately, I apparently can't tell who is who (though I think this is Empire now so) and I reaction tested Tierce.

Now that that's cleared up, let me explain to you my favorite form of scum hunting. Some people use tells, other people use actions and contradictions. Other people use GUT >=D! I use intent.

Intent reading is very elegant, but very simple. You simply ask yourself (here comes another Umineko reference, but it's just a great way of explaining it) "If I flipped the chessboard, and played from my opponent's perspective, why would they make this particular move? What was their intent?"

This assumes that, regardless of how logical or illogical, all actions have some kind of intent behind them in the game of Mafia. I believe this to be true.

So looking at the first post, TIP is saying he doesn't want to Risk getting nagged by Tierce. On the front, this seems fairly logical. Jabberwock asked for no spamming, so he didn't want to get nagged. Simple. Unless you examine WHY he didn't want to get nagged. And obviously, there are multiple potential reasons, hence my asking. However, the one I favored going in was this: The reason why TIP would want to avoid being nagged by Tierce is because he feels that if he draws her negative attention to himself, he could be risking his life. A self preservation motive, which is associated with scum. Only scum play with self preservation in mind. Townies play to find the scum, living or not living it's at the forefront of their mind.

So then, he confirms my theories by saying he wants to buddy Tierce SOLELY FOR THE PURPOSE OF LIVING LONGER. So this pretty much confirmed in my mind: Self preservation motive, very likely scum. However, I wanted to check something. Some players might be bad enough to consider self preservation at the top of their list of important things to do. It might not be a sign of scum, but rather just of bad play. So I flipped the chessboard once more and asked myself why he would freely admit he was trying to buddy someone. My options were: a) he's scum and he's trying to worm his way out of the situation (badly, I might add) or b) he's town and he truly thinks buddying can be a town tell if used properly.

So I ask if he thinks Buddying is a pro-town way to behave, and he doesn't give me an answer befitting what I think his intent would be if B) was true.

So, scum.

2) I can get behind your townread on Donald Fagen's wonderful 2006 solo album but I don't think I really buy the Andrius town-read. His hammer and subsequent reaction to it seem way too easy for a player of his competence to fake. Is there anything else in his posts that make you think he's town or is that it? There's something I want to ask Tierce about that's very largely meta-based though.

Jabberwock is clearly, clearly town. all their posts today, and yesterday, and even D1 have alot of pro-town attitude in them. I was unsure earlier, but today has been their best day I think and the fact that they are keeping the day open as long as possible so that we can speak to OT as much as possible reminds me of Tierce's and Vi's attitude in Paradox, specifically the part where we all got thrown back to D1.

to elaborate on the "unsure" side of what mara just posted since I think it mostly comes from me, I was pretty wary of the fact that Jabberwock was continuously all "yeah prohawk makes great scum sure A++ vote would backseat drive again" but clearly has no intention of hopping on that wagon like ever.

I guess I'm disappointed in the lack of any intention of compromise especially as the day goes on and 3 slots have been pretty locked into that vote. I don't have the Tierce meta that mara does, however, so I am willing to defer on that front especially since I can't point to any one slot and be like "yep that's 90% town right there" which I usually have at least 1 or 2 of.

Still, I have no idea what LLD is doing with the "hey maybe jabberwock guys ?" nudge and I see no real viable trajectory with it - you're not gonna get sheep on it today and I think you're gonna get either "nope town" or "maybe but tomorrow" from both alignments which just makes me wonder why you didn't just ask for reads on jabberwock instead of suggesting maybe they ought to be the lynch right now when it clearly lacks momentum and you don't seem to want to create any. It's confusing more than anything.

Let's go back in time to yesterday. I'm pushing the Sakura lynch, convincing DDD to hammer that shit. Blood pact is a GO.

DDD DOES hammer it... except for one thing. Saki had unvoted not minutes before and ninja'd the hammer. Apparently a sudden revelation about how he felt Sakura would play. I didn't think it applied (still don't) but that's not the important part.

The important part is the intent behind unvoting there.

From a Saki!scum perspective, what intent could he have? He would have known Sakura was a mislynch, so it's in his best interests to watch her die. And the argument for potential whiteknighting to gain town cred doesn't fly because Saki has no cred to use to save Sakura from the blood pact lynch.

The only REMAINING logic is that Saki wanted off the wagon to deflect pressure from himself when Sakura flipped town. Except jumping off the wagon at the end of the day only increases attention on you, not the other way around.

Infact, if you want definitive evidence of Saki!town, look no further than that unvote + the DDD kill.

So, how does this affect Wondercritter, you might ask? WELL I'M GLAD YOU DID.

See, here's on the the things about being a Hydra. You can't claim that you're tunneling on a read because you have a partner to keep you from doing that. Plus, Tierce and Empire have shown themselves to me to be incredibly logical players. Not exactly the type I expect to be prone to tunneling (if you want a type who is prone to accidentally tunnel as town, look no further than me.)

So what does this mean from an intent point of view? Well, one of two things.

Either a) Both Empire and Tierce have become so engrossed in their Saki!scum read that their entire perspective on the game has gone down the shitter, and we shouldn't be trusting their reads, or b) they're scum utilizing the inherent scummyness of how Saki plays and talk to further their own goals. (See: Ok I can lynch Prohawk, but I want to kill Saki too!)

I've thought it over, and the CES kill isn't the weird one, it's the DDD kill.

To me, I can see one of two reasons why DDD would have been killed.

1) Scum have a role cop, and DDD was their N1 target (very likely, surprisingly)
2) DDD was killed for a read he had, mainly the Andrius read maybe?

These don't need to conflict either, really. Both can be true...

For me, here's the deal. I need to know if Morph still has that double vote.
