If you never had to deal with WIFOM SXTLH, why did you immediately suspect it?

I never had to deal with it since the only other game i played, I was scum and a group of SE's went 1v1 for 3 of the 4 days. they let me get away with looking like "noob town" and when the time was right i did "noob town" things that got the first lynch of the day and the final hammer. So i never had to use or try to argue around it. that doesn't mean i don't know what is.

You know, this argument is as follows "Would scum really try to move RVS? Clearly no. Thus anyone who promotes RVS must be town." I really hate circular logic.

@shiidaji: i'd say round post 29 when JKM first said WIFOM. It got me to thinking in terms of circular logic and how useless it is. So when titus's post 31 came around, it just struck me as something that could be twisted. Titus agreed in his next post.

And what is it that they gain? Attention?

here's my thought process, which is what you are really interested in i'm guessing.

the gambit's positives: generates discussion, makes people takes sides.
negatives: pressure has been almost entirely on mail, allows scum to avoid pressure by taking a safe/easy opinion on the gambit, if scum avoids the first lynch it makes things easier on them in the later game.

3 > 2, so that is why i've been saying that the gambit is more scummy than town.

I disagree with your thought process here. You assume that each of the positives and negatives are weighted equally. This is not true. In fact, if you say that discussion is highly valued, which people have, then wouldn't you say that generation of discussion should be weighted higher. But of course, this once again leads to circular logic where anyone can claim that "If [alignment] then discussion leads to possible scum slips, so player must be [not alignment]" so then after this statement, we can argue both ways for eternity getting no where. Either way, this post pinged me the wrong way. So for now,

@ not science: it took me a while to figure out what "avy" meant.
@ verbs: i'm not particularly surprised at how things have turned out. I mean, i was surprised that you were reached L-1 or were there for as long as you were, but knowing that scum couldn't just hammer you and claim ignorance to "intent" (i did this my first game), i felt that, as a whole, things were in a safe place. Knowing this, if I felt that the potential hammerer had a poor case, I would have unvoted and targeted the potential hammerer.
That said, I do understand where nacho is coming from voting JKM. I've only seen someone push a lynch that hard on days 2 or 3.
On that note, I have to agree with what JKM said in 211. If you felt that he was suspicious, even if it was after Nacho's explanation, I would have expected you to vote him. Any reason you didn't?
