From what I've seen of Jason, no reason to think he's more likely to behave this way as scum than town. In case I hadn't sufficiently implied it, my previous experience with Jason leads me to believe that he is not doing anything particularly differently here to when I have seen him as town before. With that in mind, Stubbs is actually scummy, so that's why you should vote for him.

Marquis, given RachMarie's pretty good reasons for not being here very much, you should probably vote for scum while you give her time to do things.

His reads list makes almost no sense at all. I can see no reason to have different reads on me and Amrun by that stage, for example. The oriole townread is weird - says he likes his readslist but it's quite different to Stubbs's and the rest of it is because he

wants

him to be town? That's the sort of thing you make up after the fact to explain your behaviour, not that you actually use to inform your reads. Then there's the fact that he even made a readslist at all - the fact that he's offered no actual opinions or even actual suspicion up to this point mean that he can't be held accountable for the internal process of his reads and the fact that it comes after two other people just did (one of whom he is calling 'leaning scum' in that very post) makes it look like he's doing it to fit in, rather than because he wants to voice his opinion.

This (to Jason) is what you say to someone you're null on who you want to talk so that you can get a read, not someone you already suspect is scum for not participating. If Stubbs were town here, he'd just be calling Jason scum.

Work in progress. We played face-to-face a lot at Balto and have been in a lot of games together since so we're getting better at reading each other, I think.

I'm going to do the classic we-should-stop-talking-about-this-but-first-let-me-talk-about-it thing, so bear with me.

Two town JOATs is not inconceivable, especially with different abilities. It's a perfectly reasonable modding choice that allows for lots of abilities in play without being overpowered, and creates paranoia when both roles are claimed. I'm not saying they're definitely both town, I'm saying we shouldn't create a dilemma between the two.

Flavour is of secondary consideration but it seems to me that both stand up as reasonable - Stubbs's claim has slightly more tenuous flavour to make up for its more powerful abilities, Jason's flavour fits him best but his abilities are less common and therefore more difficult to believe. My feeling is that Stubbs's claim is particularly unlikely to have been made by scum - if you got Colin Creevey as a safeclaim, would you propose JOAT as something the town are likely to buy? I wouldn't. Filch could be a fakeclaim but, again, abilities would have been slightly harder to make up.

Given it's Day 1, we should be ignoring them both and allowing them to get on with things. We'll be able to deal with them later if there's skulduggery afoot.

And now we should stop talking about the claims.

Eh, I could be stubborn about this but I guess that wouldn't help. For now, it's a fall-back - I think it's fairly clear that I've seen LnGrrrR as intermittently quite scummy throughout this game and therefore a good place to park my vote after my last led to a claim that we won't be lynching. It needs further thought but I think the last thing you could call my vote is surprising.

I'm pretty strongly familiar with Nexus and I can potentially believe both claims. As I also pointed, out, the two balance each other out in one being strong in ability but weak in flavour connection and vice versa. That's a balancing factor. The fact that we'd doubt the existence of more than one kind of JOAT is a balancing factor. Maybe Night 1 won't "sort it out" (Amrun's words, not mine) but there's no reason to lynch one of them today. We should see what they do and what results they get.

Balance > flavour. Nexus showed in the Philosopher's Stone game that he's not necessarily going to pick the most obvious people in the most obvious roles. JOAT is not a ridiculous claim on its own and it being in the hands of Colin, a less central but nonetheless notable character who played a role in helping Harry overcome the plot, is not inconceivable. Again, I'm not saying it's definitely true, but it checks out as plausible for sure.

seen it talked about as a reasonable option. Nexus is not an uncreative mod. Would it be unusual? Of course. Is it inconceivable? Of course not.

Actually, both he and I have definitely played in Greater Idea games at meets in which it was possible for more than one kind of JOAT to be in one game at the same time. It's also not that hard to think about as an idea anyway. I can't claim to be a definitive resource on Nexus's brain but the concept really isn't

weird. Take into account the balance of one being stronger in flavour and the other in powers and it fits together fairly well.
