Flavor here later.
The earth shook and rumbled as the giant Malkuthian machine of war, known as the Tartarus, ground its way slowly across the continent towards the Rotelro Bridge. Created in Sheridan, this behemoth dreadnought is armed with fontech technology able to blast away all but the greatest of structures and armies. A glyph of Fire, the Fifth Fonon, at its base allows the warship to levitate off the ground, propel itself forward and even generate a shield against enemy fonic strikes. The great Tartarus plays perhaps the greatest role in the uneasy peace between Malkuth and Kimlasca; the Kimlascans fear to field an army against such a monstrous construction as the Tartarus. At the heart of this mechanical menace, a new rumbling begins...
"That stupid bastard Jade, who does he think he is, taking us prisoner like this! If he shows his ugly face down here again I'll...!" Luke trailed off, continuing to mutter inaudibly in his sleep. Tear rolled her eyes.
"Even in his sleep, he's still an idiot. *sigh* Fon Master, how are you?" Tear inquired of the green-haired young man across from her.
"I'm fine, Tear. I just needed a few minutes to rest. And please, just call me Ion."
"As you wish, Fon M-... Ion. I rather expect we'll be hearing from Colonel Curtiss again soon, now that we're almost to the Rotelro Bridge. Perhaps then he'll-" Tear cut off abruptly as Mieu jumped up into her lap.
"Master is still sleeping, Tear! He sure does need his rest!"
"Er, yes, he appears to have needed-"
"I do love Master, he saved the forest and Mister Ion, he calls me "Thing", he lets me travel with him all the time and he even kicks me! I hope he feels better after getting his rest! This thing we're in is scary too, all the machines and..." Mieu's prattling continues on in this helter skelter vein for several minutes. He finally stops as he notices something:
"Miss Tear, why are you staring at me?"
Tear jumps guiltily. "W-what? I wasn't staring!"
Mieu touches a paw to her face. "Are you alright, Miss Tear? Your face has gone all red!"
Ion starts to chuckle softly as Tear, face flaming, protests that she wasn't staring at Mieu but rather was taking the opportunity to study a cheagle as they're such rare beasts. Blushing, chuckling and sleeping stop abruptly as the Tartarus shudders to a screeching halt. Luke leaps up:
"What the hell was that?! I was asleep, dammit!"
Luke's tirade is cut off abruptly as the door to their quarters bursts open, admitting Colonel Jade and Ion's assistant Anise.
"Get ready quickly; we need to move. Now." Jade orders grimly.
"Who the he-"
"Not now, Luke!" Tear cuts him off in exasperation. Luke glares at her and mutters something under his breath, but is otherwise silent. "What's happened, Colonel?"
"We're under attack by the Oracle Knights. They've taken over the bridge; we'll need to fight our way up there and recapture it."
"Are the God-Generals here as well?" Tear asked.
"I've not seen any as yet, but it would be foolish to assume there isn't at least one lurking about somewhere. Let's move. We need to retake the bridge." Jade swept out of the room. The others quickly followed. As they reached the outside and climbed the ladder to the main deck, they were greeted with an ocean of steel and waves of swords; the entire main deck was covered from rail to rail with Oracle Soldiers. A young man wearing a mask stepped to the fore.
"Sync the Tempest!" Jade hissed.
"None other," the masked man smirked. "Now hand over the Fon Master and you can have your ship back."
"I'm afraid we can't do that. I'm not in the habit of handing over my wards to kidnappers," Jade responded.
The smirk vanished from Sync's face. "Alright then, we'll take him by force! Get him!" As the Oracle Knights rushed forward, Jade nodded at Anise. Anise smiled.
"Tokunaga, take 'em down!" As she spoke, the small doll she carried exploded to a massive size; Anise jumped onto its back and it began knocking soldiers about like the doll it was but moments before. After a few moments the deck is littered with the bodies of soldiers. However even with their numbers thinned by Tokunaga's rage, the soldiers kept coming. As the soldiers pulled back briefly for reinforcements, Anise spots something on the aft deck:
"Is that... It is! It's a liger! ARIETTA!" Shrieking insanely, Anise leaps off after the liger. There is a short silence as everyone stares at the screaming little girl running off on her fonic doll.
"Uh, Colonel?" Tear asks.
"Yes?"
"There are rather a lot of soldiers here, and there are only two of us now. What shall we do?"
Jade sighed and pushed his glasses back up the bridge of his nose. "Looks like I'll have to exert myself a bit." He materializes his spear and jams it into the ground; a fonic glyph in the metal activates and expands a shield around the party.
"What the hell is this?" Luke shouts.
"I've manipulated the Tartarus' fonic shield technology into protecting a small area around my fonic spear. Now kindly be silent while I take care of these soldiers." Jade glares at the soldiers; his eyes have gone the color of blood.
"I, who stand in the full light of the heavens command thee,
who opens the gates of hell; come forth divine lightning! This ends now!
INDIGNATION!"
Four bars of light erupt from Jade's outstretched hands and arc to the sky; three massive fonic glyphs appear in the air over the mass of soldiers. As the four shafts of light meet in the air, the focal point shatters into a million bolts of lightning and rain down upon the unfortunate soldiers. Steel is shattered, flesh is crisped in an instant. Only seconds pass, but the devastation is incredible. The soldiers are slaughtered to a man; the air is filled with the stench of scorched hair and flesh. A small thump breaks the silence; Luke has staggered backward and fallen on his behind, eyes wide at the devastation wrought by Jade. A small chuckle can be heard from inside the field of corpses:
"I see why they call you the Necromancer, Jade Curtiss." Wiping blood off his mouth, Sync tosses a small cube at Jade. As Jade attempts to swat it away, it bursts into light, covering Jade with a vibrating field of energy.
"That was for the Fon Master, but you are way too powerful to leave walking around. Let's see how good you are with your fonic artes s-oof!" Sync looks down in shock; Jade's spear is buried in his chest. The spear vanishes as Sync topples to the ground.
"Let's go. We've got a bridge to recapture."
Luke stares at the retreating colonel. "S-scary..."
Meanwhile, elsewhere on the Tartarus...
"Arietta! How could you?! The Fon Master was your
life
! How could you betray him like that?!" Anise screamed as Tokunaga took a swipe at the little God-General.
"You'd never understand, Anise! Everything I've ever done has been for the Fon Master!" Lances of lightning shot from her hand at Tokunaga; the doll deflected them easily.
"You're insane! How could you say that? You're trying to kidnap Ion, and worse! I'LL KILL YOU, GLOOMIETTA!"
Back on the bridge...
"What was that?" Luke cried as a rumble shook the Tartarus.
"No time now," Jade responded. "Dammit, they've locked the controls! I'm going to have to unscramble them before we can move the Tartarus. Keep me guarded, you two."
"Okay," Tear responded. "I'll cover this area, and Luke... Luke?"
Tear whipped about as she heard the signature click of a fontech pistol hammer.
"Drop your weapons, now." A newcomer had Luke at gunpoint, a blonde woman with a pair of twin pistols.
"M-major Legretta? What are you-" Tear stammered.
"No questions! Weapons, floor, now. Or I paste this brat's brain across the wall!"
"That'd be a neat trick, seeing as how he doesn't have any brains," said Jade from the console.
"Hey!" yelled Luke.
"Yeah, Colonel, that wasn't terribly nice." Legretta's pistols fell to the floor, torn in half by a swift set of sword strikes from a man who'd jumped down from the ceiling. "Even if he is a brainless idiot."
"Guy?" Luke looked confused. "Weren't you in Baticul?"
"Later, Luke." Guy looked about for Legretta, who slowly backed up before turning and fleeing. "Well, that's the last of them. Colonel, you got that console working yet?"
"Yes, it seems to be functional. We'll need to run some repairs before the ship is up and running again, but it's at least back in our control."
Guy looks at the console; "Don't worry girl, we'll have you back to full health in no time."
In a nearby forest...
"Damn, that necromancer got me good..." Sync coughed.
"You were careless," replied Legretta.
"You're one to talk, Legretta!" Sync fired back. "Where are your pistols, hmm?"
"Enough!" barked Van. "Did you retrieve the Fon Master or not?" Both Sync and Legretta looked away. "I thought not. Enough with this childish squabbling, and bring me that boy! Arietta, did you encounter the Fon Master?"
"No. But I got revenge for Mommy!" Arietta held up a small doll. It was in miserable condition; its skin was torn, the stuffing was hanging out and an eye missing. It appeared to be crying blood.
