Rules
If this is your first game of Mafia on this site, please read these in full.
Be familiar with the site-wide rules and guidelines (see here and here).
Please keep the game civil and avoid personal attacks. Use of homophobic, racist, sexist, or any other derogatory slurs will not be tolerated.
While this game is running, you may not discuss this game anywhere outside of the game thread unless you have been explicitly allowed to do so.
Do not quote any private communication, including game-related PMs, instant messages, and QuickTopics. Quoting time stamps from any private communication is also forbidden. Paraphrasing is allowed.
If it is not visible to the naked eye, do not post it. This includes but is not limited to: invisible text, tiny text and encrypted text. 'Spoiler=' tags are fine. For cases (like "breadcrumbing") where you aren't sure, please PM me beforehand.
Do not edit or delete your posts.
Do not use the colour
#8040FF
. All other formatting is fair game.
For vote count errors or other minor questions, please bold your concern in the thread. For all other issues, PM me.
Pretending to break the rules or exploiting loopholes in the rules will be considered breaking the rules.
Activity
Prods will be issued to players if they have not posted within a 48-hour period. Players who have been prodded have 24 hours to respond in the game thread before a replacement is sought.
A post with the sole purpose of avoiding a prod (a 'prod dodge') will grant players a further 24 hours to post something game-related.
For purposes of activity, Saturday and Sunday will be considered a 24-hour period.
Players who have been prodded 3 times may be replaced without further notice.
Players may request that a reminder be sent to a player who has not posted within 36 hours.
If you anticipate being away for at least 48 hours, please PM me or post a V/LA notice in the thread with the expected date of your return.
Days and Nights
Days will have a deadline of two weeks, and Nights will last 72 hours. Deadline extensions will be granted only in extreme circumstances.
Lynches occur through simple majority (50% of living players + 1, rounded down). If no majority is reached at deadline or there is a majority of votes for No Lynch, Day will end without a lynch. Once majority is reached, no further votes or unvotes will count.
Votes and vote revocations must be bolded (e.g.,
Vote: serrapaladin
and
Unvote
). Unvotes are preferred but not necessary when switching votes (e.g.,
Unvote, Vote: No Lynch
). Use of the vote tags (e.g., VOTE: serrapaladin) is optional.
All players, including the lynched player, are allowed to talk in twilight phase until the thread is locked, at which point Day ends. Dead players may not post until the game has been officially declared over.
The lynched player's alignment and role will be revealed once a majority has been achieved. The alignment and role of any players killed during the night are revealed the following morning.
Actions not received by deadline will be considered forfeit. Actions may be submitted ahead of time and can be changed as many times as desired; at deadline, the last valid action that was submitted will be used. Actions may be submitted via PM or QuickTopic.
Any situation not covered above will be handled on a case-by-case basis. I reserve the right to add, modify, or remove rules as necessary. I will notify you of any changes in the thread.
tl;dr Rules
Lynches are by majority.
Days are two weeks and Nights are 72 hours.
This (#8040FF)
is my color.
48 hours inactivity gets you a prod. Three prods are a replace. A prod dodge buys you 24 hours.
PM me or post in
bold
for clarification.
Have fun, be civil, and play to win!
Current Vote Count
Jake from State Farm (LYNCH) - RachMarie, Luca Blight
Not Voting (1) - Jake from State Farm
With 3 alive, it's 2 to lynch.
The deadline for Day 4 is in (expired on 2014-04-11 22:00:59).

Setup
This is a Newbie game and uses the standard Matrix6 setup. One row or one column has been chosen from the table below and the remaining six players are filled with Mafia Goons and Vanilla Townies to create a game of
7 Town-aligned players
against
2 Mafia-aligned players
. You will not be told which setup has been chosen for the current game.
A
B
C
1
Town Jailkeeper
Vanilla Townie
Mafia Goon
2
Mafia Roleblocker
Town Cop
Town Doctor
3
Town 1-Shot Bulletproof
Mafia Goon
Town Tracker
The Roleblocker's action resolves before the Jailkeeper's action.
The Mafia must specify who executes their night kill and the Mafia Roleblocker may both submit the kill and use his Roleblock.
If you have any questions about the setup, feel free to ask!

8/9 have confirmed, so Day 1 begins.
Note: goodmorning is V/LA until Tuesday. She is the IC, but with notsci and Rach, you have two fantastic SE's and I'm sure they'd be willing to answer any questions you may have.

Played mafia a few times irl. Played forum mafia a couple of time on another site. Played a matrix 6 game before.
2 week deadline is long. Do games generally use the full 2 weeks? Or does someone typically get hammered before then?

by Luca Blight
In the other game I've played on here the full two weeks is used, and sometimes it still comes to a no-lynch!

Lol. I guess people will just work to the deadline given. How's activity here in theze newbie games, how many replavements geblnerally get done per game?
Posted: Sat Feb 15, 2014 9:07 am
by Luca Blight
In my other game there was quite a few replacements in the latter stages, the activity levels were generally good but there were also quiet days where only a few posts were made.

I think with regards to the deadline, it is generally considered better for Town the longer the day goes on as it obviously allows more time for scum-hunting, so that is a reason early hammers are avoided.
Looking at the rules discussion of activity in a general sense is allowed, but I take your point.
Cheers.

Hello all, I am your lovely IC. I am expected to help you learn to play the game, particularly in the context of this forum. Towards the pursuit of that goal, I will answer all your theory questions truthfully.
That's right,
I will not lie to you
about theory.
Now, you may be thinking "no fair, she's got more experience, clearly she will pwn newbs". That's only somewhat true. Some newbies have played many a game of Mafia elsewhere. Besides this, experience counts against me as well: you all are able to look up my past games and see how I've played in them. I can't because most of you don't have any. So it's a fairly even split.
What sort of experience do people have? This is my first game of Mafia in RL or forum based.
I've played Mafia on and off for a little less than a decade. I only got into forum mafia in September of 2012, though.
Most of the games I've played are on this site. You can check my past games through clicking my username, then "display topics" (on the right, near the lower middle of the screen) or by clicking the wiki link under my info over there <. My wiki is missing my 17 most recently completed games, though.
In post 14, Not_Mafia wrote:2 week deadline is long. Do games generally use the full 2 weeks? Or does someone typically get hammered before then?
It depends on the playerlist and whether or not someone slips, but generally games use up a lot of the allotted time.
In post 16, Not_Mafia wrote:How's activity here in theze newbie games, how many replavements geblnerally get done per game?
Activity and number of replacements also depend on the playerlist.
I've never replaced out of a game, and am usually fairly active when not V/LA. Rach is typically slightly less active than the average, but also not likely to replace out. notsci is typically more active than the average, and also is not likely to replace out.
As for the newbs, I couldn't say. I've played with Joker before, but one game does not solid meta make.
