PMs- Message History

I have a PM that is the 15th PM of a back and forth.

If I save that PM only, does it retain the PM trail?

Can I safely delete the actual other PMs and not lose my message history?

Answered my own question. It leaves the PM string- just vanishes.

However, if quoted further up the chain, the quote remains.

So it looks like each PM starts on it's own.
