Somewhat serious vote, not entirely RVS. There's absolutely no way you're getting a town read from the very first post a person makes in the game. If you could I'd just copy/paste that post everywhere I went as scum and you'd be none the wiser. Possible that Creature is buddying, I don't like how he talks about 'early town activity' or some shit like that as if he's trying to seem a part of it.
Idk what your and robbnva's problem is with early town reads is?? "Oh it can be easily faked", great? Like wow we have some weak town reads it isnt going to determine our read on someone for the entire game?
Everytime someone says someone is town read for *blank* I might as well say that it could be "easily faked". Assuming things are easily faked and that scum are playing optimally is stupid af and there is no point in even playing if everyone played optimally.
How many games exactly do you have across all of your alts, robbnva?
@Eggman I hate RQS and want to lynch all who use it because asking people what their favorite dessert is just lets scum hide by answering those pointless questions.

Here's the thing. Most players see actions like being pro-active as a town tell. Smart scum notice these things and adapt because the point of the game as scum is to be town read as best as they can.

That's why some scum like to end Rvs as soon as possible because that's usually considered a town tell and people who prolong it are usually looked at suspicious.

Trying to start an Rvs wagon on somebody is easily the most common way to end Rvs. Now I can't say I've ever used that myself, I have seen scum do it.

People always lecture me at "looking at motives" and imo those early pushes didn't feel natural to me, they felt forced in an attempt the end Rvs instead of letting it progress naturally. That's why I don't see those actions as necessary town motivated. I also question people who do because it should be questioned.

Now back to creature. The post he made about not going to vote them for the remainder of the game rubbed me the wrong way. Nobody was accusing him of that and it felt out of place. If he were town I would think he would be more confident in his own opinions and wouldn't be rattled by somebody else's.
Okay I can see where youre coming from, although I disagree on some things regarding whether or not someone can be townread for things (Like the specific way they pushed early can be alignment indicative not necessarily that they pushed)
Onto creature, though, I think that his post was kind of warranted. The angle you were taking was that it was "dangerous" for creature to be town reading people early which was responded to by creature as it not being a big deal as it wasnt a firm unshakable town read he would have the whole game.
pedit mild suspicion is considered a scum lean which is still a read. As long as it isnt null it is some sort of read.
I prefer they, thanks :)

I played in his newbie game and he was scum and did pretty much nothing except for bandwagoning some people a little, so I am unsure whether or not this is town!atm trying to do some stuff or possibly scum!atm who figured out how to play scum better (or possibly getting coached pre-game or by mafia with day chat)

I think the point creature is making is that scum were taking advantage of robbnva having issues with people having town reads and using it as an excuse to try to push a lynch through. (Which is a decent argument imo)

Looking ar smithereen's post again this really bothers me. Creature never said that they got a town read from like one post or something, it was based on the pushes people were making across multiple pushes.

That makes more sense i was misunderstanding what creature originally meant by "problems with townreads". Either way I'm not sure that was Smithereens trying to jump on and push for a lynch. iirc creature didn't even have a vote on him that wasn't from rvs and robb didn't place a vote on him during that squabble. if there were more votes on creature i could see it as scum pushing for a lynch but being the first legitimate vote on creature doesn't convince me fully.
I would like to see what Smith has to say though considering we're now days in and they've only posted twice.
robbnva was hinting at a creature scum read / lean

Dayphases last 12 days.
Nightphases last 48 hours.
Deadlines will generally be at 00:00 CEST (which is GMT + 1 + 1), unless I have other plans in the evening, at which point it may be delayed for a few hours, which I may or may not announce. I will announce more significant delays of course.
If an absolute majority has been reached, the night will start at 00:00 CEST, unless, like with the deadlines, I have other plans in the evening, in which case it may be delayed for a few hours. I like to try to keep starts and ends of phases close to 00:00 CEST, but I'll be flexible within, say, 3 hours of a deadline.
I'm actually busier currently than I used to be 5 months ago when I entered the mod queue (..), so updates may be a bit later than expected. If I'm working a particular day, updates will only be between 18:00 and 23:00 CEST.

Your role PM will state the following:
-The name of your role, which are the standard rolenames taken from the wiki.
-Your alignment, which may be
town
(#
a2d4bc
) or
mafia
(#
b76c8f
). I'm not confirming, nor denying, any
other possibilities
(#
ada0a6
).
-Any abilities you may have, with the name I've given it, and an explanation as to how to use it.
-Your win condition.
Below are two examples of role PMs. A town vanilla role PM, and a non-vanilla role PM. Note that the non-vanilla role PM serves only as an example, and does in itself not make any statement about the likeliness of this role being included in this set-up.

During the dayphase, you may vote to remove one player from the game (i.e. "lynch"). You do this by bolding
vote:
player
or using the vote tags.
No lynch
is an acceptable vote, and is used if you want to end the day without a lynch. You may post
remove vote
(or unvote) to remove your vote altogether.
Do not unvote if you simply want to change your vote, I prefer to see only a single vote-related statement per post, so simply vote another player. If you do unvote to remove your vote, please don't add a name behind it.
Lynches (or no lynches) require absolute majority of the votes to go through, meaning a number of votes equal to 50% of the number of active players, rounded down, plus 1.
Once an absolute majority has been reached, the (no) lynch is locked in, and no new votes will be counted. The player to be lynched may talk until the write-up for the end of the day has been posted.

Your role PM will state if you have any abilities, what their effects are, and how to use them.
If you have an active ability, you may PM me any time during the day-night cycle with the required parameters (generally just your target). You may change this any time before the nightphase deadline. Unless your role PM states otherwise, you may use your ability once each nightphase. Some abilities may be limited in how often they can be used.
Unless your ability is investigative, you will receive no feedback from the results of your abilities. If you're due some feedback, you will receive a PM from me with the subject:
Mini 1805: report
.

Before you die, you may determine the flavour surrounding your death. Keep it simple (you can't use this to incriminate someone). If I'm lazy, this will be a text description in the write-up. If you're lucky, I'll draw something.

At game start, you confirm by the way stated in your welcome PM. When 11 players have confirmed, the game starts.
You will be prodded after 48 hours of not posting, although I'll be flexible right before and after nightphases.
I'll look for a replacement in the folowing cases:
- When you don't confirm within 48 hours.
- When you have received 3 prods.
- When you ask to be replaced.
I may or may not allow you to continue to play after I've requested a replacement, but haven't found one yet.

Don't edit your posts (if you can).
Don't post when dead.
Don't quote PMs.

okay actually the push on creature for putting someone who hasn't posted in his possible scum team is total bull crap.
I've done things like that before, where I say the scum team is in:
blahblahblah
not necessarily because everyone in that list I am scum reading super hard, but rather because I am using process of elimination and removing everyone I am town reading.

Reason. A player who is uninformed is likely to stick to a person who they've discovered is scum with a high degree of confidence. Moving off it simply shows how little profundity the discovery actually made on the player. If Rob's town, then he isn't too concerned about the town win con, and he clearly shows it. Otherwise he's scum.
In post 760, Smithereens wrote:@Rob, I'm worried about your vote Rob because your vote stands out for being incongruent with arguments that you levied at Creature to accuse him of being scum. The other players don't stand out at all in terms of their votes. Also, be patient with your requests for replies. As you can see you're not the only one.

@Infinity, don't get tied up over the fact that I am or aren't faking my annoyance, I might end up getting annoyed. Lurking from experience does not actually happen despite how many people think it does.

@Dragon, Incorrect. The point is that a townie doesn't play in that fashion, because it involves a detachment of concern from finding scum. Yes, theoretically it is good play. Town don't do this 'good play,' because it actually doesn't reflect a straight forward pursuit of the town win con. It's more how an emotionless robot would play the game, or a scum with no interest in helping the town. Also, this is what I meant by saying you need to be watched. You're a spectator who is throwing opinions at material other people are saying and not attempting to contribute yourself. We don't need a commentator in a mafia game.
In post 794, Smithereens wrote:Do you suggest that Creature is a newb who doesn't know what the town win con looks like..?
this is your weird obsession with win con

Town reading a lot of the people and then creature being a townread are very similar. I thought that your thing about how infinity had someone go from 3rd scummiest to 7th scummiest was just like the way they ordered the list or something? Idk I was tired when I read through that stuff.
Either way I still said enough that town!them wouldnt do.

In post 1002, MarioManiac4 wrote:Well, here's my reads if people want them.
Smithereens- nothing really of note.
Derek- this was my first scumread and I still maintain it. He's spent almost all of his time ivoting crazycrab, although he seems to be active. He then seems to push Eggman primarily while the wagon was the most popular- after it fades away his attention on Eggman vanishes and he goes back to crab. He doesn't seem to be posting about anyone but crab. I can understand this if he has limited time online but it doesn't seem like he is, and even if he is I've found as scum, when I do have limited time, I focus on mostly my push and trying to validate it without pushing any other cases, rather than trying to generalize and find good cases (which is what I would do as town)- I'm not the same person as Derek but I think it's an instinct many would have. This is a somewhat bad scumread but it's lower than null nevertheless.

Eggman- "do you think there are 3 scum in a 13p game" is bad. I dislike 199, specifically the part where he says "I wanted to make a post to show that I was reading." Town don't really feel like justifying anything, but scum are generally always on the lookout for their own survival- or newer ones are anyhow. In 267 he says he's not aware of how to scumhunt. This is kinda a serious problem and you'd think he'd have figured it out in his three completed games. Sure enough, a quick look at "Celestial Mafia" where he is actively trying to scumhunt. He is aware of how to scumhunt. This strangely seems to drop, with Creature coming in with a townread on Eggman with a read that doesn't make sense.

crazycrab- I can see the scumminess of this slot when I open the ISO but it isn't hard to put into words- I might be seeing something different. crazycrab is commenting on different light reads. Post 173 is especially over the top, with "feel" appearing twice, along with its old comrade "from my experience". Yet he does make a good point about Eggman- although that isn't hard to fake if Eggman is town. He then follows this up by defending him slightly- this could indicate they are scumbuddies. His #254 is valid, but #173 is still bad. Later on, #515 is bad. If he thought the push was stupid, why didn't he say so instead of just saying that it was probably a SvS and the two most discussed players at the time were his top scumreads, along with those who hadn't posted?
"I think the problem we are having is that while many people read just off people's ISO, I believe that we should consider all the possibilities before we make a decision. I don't know if this is a good strategy because I have only tested it on one game, but it is what seems most fair to me."- this means that he has tested this strategy he is apparently using before. He makes the next few posts about his strategy; a musing by Fohex on crab's Dwlee read turns into a criticism on his strategy, and then says that he was "testing" a strategy in this game? 1)- you said you'd tested it before? and 2)- what's all this talk about strategy about? This game is a scumhunting game, and just because people thought your explanations weren't good enough doesn't mean you should hide your reasoning so that you can keep reads that are unsatisfying to other people?
Y'know, this makes me think- what is he planning to do this game if not explaining his reads? Explaining reads is the way to get your scumreads lynched, and if he's not planning to explain his reads, is he just planning to just state his reads and skate by the whole game? This post's scummy.
#600- why does he listen to a few criticisms of his strategy?

I'm going to post this to get it out there and aim to get the rest of my reads up asap.
Robb we can.compromise on infinity or we could lynch the scum picking all the low hanging fruit andbscum reading them and for some reason just mentioning smithereens??

In post 1028, Dragon of the West wrote:Say what you'd like, but you're imagining that. You said you thought something I said in that post set off your scumdar and the only thing I can see setting that off is if you thought I lied about not trying to push a hammer through. If that's not the case, please clarify what made that retort to petroleum scummy, because it's not clear. And that's not "overdefensive", that's explaining myself after an accusation
Petroleum said you were hypocritical for calling eggman's VT crumb scum when you crumbed neighbor, you explained that crumbing neighbor wasn't really the purpose of the post in question. Ok, that was enough of a defense.

You said you weren't pushing for a quickhammer on eggman, but petroleum wasn't accusing you of that, "pushing for a lynch" does not mean "pushing for a lynch immediately", and that particular wording is not important anyway. The important part that petroleum was pointing out was that you called eggman scum for crumbing uselessly, while you crumbed neighbor, and you already had answered that part. Overdefensive.

You also talk about why you didn't like the eggman crumb in a way that "I realize now that it may have just been something Eggman may do" is not a reason for town to drop a scumread. Meanwhile you never even gave another reason to stop pushing eggman in the first place.

UNVOTE:
VOTE: dragon

F-oh-ex is still probably town, he's just stupidly stuck on the creature/egg BS. Egg was town because saying that he crumbed there made no sense as scum, and there was no other real reason to ask the dessert question. Creature realizing that does not make him scum lol
I mean I know it is counter intuitive to try to start a counter wagon on your scum buddy as scum but you might get townie points if you counter wagon'd mario. You could probably argue that you're town cause mario was your counter wagon and "why would scum counter wagon their partner ??"
I prefer they, thanks :)

legend
  • + working together with somebody, townreading them, defending them, buddying them, helping them, allying with them
  • - working against somebody, scumreading them, attacking them, pushing them, discrediting them
  • = neutral interactions, usually quoting somebody without either attacking or defending them, sometimes these are just interactions about setup spec or passing mentions of a slot, sometimes this is responding to a case someone made against you without making it clear whether you’re scumreading them in return or townreading them.
  • == stating explicitly that a person is a null read
  • ? I didn’t understand this reaction. this modifies a previous symbol, so +? means “is this an interaction with a townread?” and -? means “is this an interaction with a scumread?” and +?-? means i have no clue what’s going on in that post.
  • v votes
  • u unvotes but only if someone says who they’re unvoting because i’m lazy
  • ☾ marks boundaries between days.
  • ✝ a gravestone to mark that a slot has died.
  • R marking the boundaries where a replacement of the slot i'm mapping occurred
  • r shows where the slot they're interacting with was replaced
  • ⌾ marks a slot that has been tree-stumped or had their alignment revealed by the mod (IC or similar)
  • _ conspicuous absences (the only slot left off a readslist, for example)

Everone has 2 roles (or modes as I call them in-game). You choose whichever you want to use before the next day- and night cycle. Only one mode is active, and the other mode's abilities are not available / active. A generic example: you may have an active investigative ability in mode 1, and a passive protective ability in mode 2. You need to choose which one you want to use the next day- and night cycle. There will be a few vanilla equivalents though. Like I said it's practically ready, though I may change a role. But I want to do a quick micro first, so I'm joining the micro queue first in September.
