We're bringing you guys back to the days of Scumchat for a classic game that has become a staple of MS Survivor. Someone call Danny Phantom, because we're going ghost.

GAME RULES
  • In Ghost, players take turns saying letters of the alphabet, in an attempt to not spell a word.
  • If you give a letter that completes a word in the English language that is 4 letters or longer, you are eliminated from the challenge. Whoever would have taken a turn after the eliminated player then begins the next round.
  • The order of play has been randomized, and can be found at the bottom of this post.
  • The first letter given during a round cannot be a letter of the alphabet that was used to start any previous rounds in the game.
  • You cannot provide a letter that makes it impossible for a valid word to be spelled from the existing letters. If it is your turn and you believe the current combination of letters to be invalid, you may challenge the player who gave a letter before you to provide a finished word from the current set of letters. If the player can provide a valid word, the player who challenged them is eliminated, but if the player cannot provide a valid word, they are eliminated. Either way, the player in the turn order directly after the player who made the challenge will begin the next round.
  • No discussion among team members regarding the challenge is allowed during this challenge, even within the public challenge thread.

  • No outside sources are allowed. This includes the internet, dictionaries, spellcheck, or anything that could be used to help you in the challenge.

  • Twelve hours will be given for every player to take a turn. However, once twelve hours have passed, other players on the team of whoever's turn it is are free to give a letter in the place of their teammate. If a player misses two deadlines, they will be moved to the bottom of the draft order should their team win.
  • Once an entire team has been eliminated from the game, that team will lose the challenge. Remaining players from the winning team will continue playing as individuals in order to determine the order for drafting partners. After this point, you may obviously no longer give a letter in the place of a teammate. Players from the winning team will draft for partners in order of who lasted the longest in the challenge. If a player misses deadline, they will not receive an activity strike, but they will be eliminated from the challenge.
  • We will be using Merriam-Webster.com to determine validity of all words. Again, you are not allowed to use outside sources, including Merriam-Webster. Proper nouns such as names or places do not count as words.

Example Round of Play wrote:CC begins the round.

CC gives the letter A.
xof gives the letter L.
CC gives the letter M.
xof gives the letter O.
CC gives the letter S.
xof gives the letter T.

This spells ALMOST, and xof is eliminated from the game.

As usual, you have until the end of the challenge to rank the veterans or rookies of the opposing team by the order you wish to draft them. Your partner from Ready Aim Fire is excluded.

Save The Dragons has (expired on 2016-09-12 09:19:47).

Actually, we meant to change this earlier. Editing the OP now.

The order has been changed, sorry for the confusion. RedCoyote is up, and the deadline will reset.

So what's the cliff notes?

If you spell A-L-M-O- then player 5 either has to play N or S? And if it's N, then D can be played, but then S an be played for ALMONDS? Or does it stop as soon as ALMOND is completed?

Do the "words" go back to the beginning of each round? i.e. Can players put B-E-A-S-K-I-N-D-R-U- etc. because they could start other words in the middle to avoid a word longer than 4 letters? That part's unclear to me.

For each word does the alphabet start over?

I think this could potentially be great fun. I wish this would have been a brawl though and we could all have played Blokus, that game was cool! :)

Any chance people can talk about the challenge details in the general thread? It's really hard to follow along with the actual challenge.

I also accept the irony of saying this in the challenge thread.
