This game is using the standard Newbie Game setup, Matrix6. One row or one column will be randomly chosen from the table below and the remaining six roles will be filled in by Mafia Goons and Vanilla Townies as appropriate to create a total of 2 Mafia-aligned players and 7 Town-aligned players.
- Don’t be a dick. This is a heated game but below the belt attacks will not be tolerated. Attack the play not the player.
Don't talk about ongoing games
- You may not talk to each other about this game outside of threads I have created for this purpose. You may not talk about other ongoing games in this thread.
If you have any questions, you may ask in thread or PM me.
Tiny text
is not allowed and is also of the devil, keep it 70+ please.
Provable randomness
- is against the rules. Saying that you rolled a dice is fine, using dice tags or random.org is not.
- You have about 48 hours to confirm your role and your alignment by PM. Game will start sooner if everyone confirms. Posting in a private topic counts as confirmation.
Days
- Days last about 14 days, generally rounded to the nearest half hour. Extensions may be granted if there are replacements.
Activity
- You must post at least once every 72 hours or I will Prod you. You then have 24 hours to post in the game thread or I will replace you. If you need to be absent for longer than this, you should declare
V/LA
in bold in the thread like this: [
b]
@Mod: I will be v/la until Thursday
[
/b].
Prodging
- A naked "prod dodge" does not reset the prod timer. To avoid being prodded/replaced for inactivity, include some game advancing content in your prodges, such as "got prodded; xxxx is still scum."
Quoting
- You may not quote (or copy paste) any private information into the thread, including your role PM and any mod communication.
Voting
- Votes must be in bold in the format VOTE: Drixx or
Vote: Drixx
. Strong preference for using vote tags instead of bold tags. Unvotes are nice but not required. If I think it’s a vote, it’s a vote, no tricks. Type [
v]Drixx[
/v] to vote and [
uv]Drixx[
/uv] to unvote.
Lynching
- Days end early when a simple majority of players (50% of living players + 1 rounded down) vote to lynch somebody. If a majority is not reached at deadline or if a majority of the players vote for no lynch, the day will end without a lynch. At evens, 50% is sufficient for no lynch.
Twilight
- Begins when a majority is reached and lasts until I lock the thread. You're still alive until I flip you so you can talk in any game threads you have access to until then, but no votes or unvotes will be counted.
Night
- Night lasts about 48 hours. Life happens.
Action submissions
- You may submit actions via PM (if town) or PT (if scum). If the actions are not submitted by the deadline then you do nothing. You can change your mind as many times as you like before the deadline. I will always use the last action submitted before the deadline.
Reminders
- If I don't hear from you about your night actions, I'll PM you 24 hours before the deadline. This doesn't count as a prod. If I still don't hear from you, you will take no action.
Play to Win
- and have fun!

VOTE: Accountant
So some quick leadoff stuff (not related to RVS).
So uh I don't know how Accountant/Loopdan play, but for this game Accountant is the IC, and loopdan/myself are the SE's. What this means is that Accountant is basically the primary point of contact for information regarding mafia and Loopdan/myself just kinda support/add views to it.
As far as this game goes, my policy is to not manipulate beginners with misinformation regarding the game regardless of my alignment. Basically be it that I'm scum or town this game, anything I say regarding how to play this game is my honest opinion. Normally, like now, I'll make a note that this is more 'fluff' and less important to the actual game (or at least to what I think about the state of the game).
As far as this stage goes, this is normally what we call "RVS" Or Random Voting Stage. AKA we just pick a vote and go with it. Sometimes you'll see an RVS "Wagon" (Wagon: A group of people voting to lynch the same person) form that normally transitions us into the game with some information. Doesn't matter if you all try to partake, but I suggest you do. It's good experience going forward.

Also as a pre-note to voting etiquette. It is common courtesy in a situation where someone is a vote away from a lynch (What we call L-1) to bold an alert:
AjTheEpic is at L-1
For example. Then if you want to hammer, you declare 'intent'.
Intent to Hammer AjTheEpic[/v]
This is to let the one being wagoned know that they need to claim/give final thoughts/fight off an impending lynch. Just because an intent is declared does not mean the lynch has to happen. Normally a power role claim stops the wagon until a counterclaim comes through or proof that the claim is a lie is revealed. But if you feel something is
wrong
with the votes or motives for voting, don't be afraid to express yourself and unvote.
This is just so we don't have to explain this going down the line and it's nice and early.

Edit: well normally that would be bolded but I hand-wrote my BB code on intent to hammer.
TesXX as point of note, it is normally considered 'anti-town' to self-vote. Not necessarily scum (because there's really no clear indication if scum do it more than town outside of when scum is obviously caught) but just that it goes against your own win condition to win.
Also mafia == scum. We use it mostly interchangeably.

Well then. Hello all! My name is Woodboys2339 and so far I've played chatroom mafia for about 2 1/2 years now. So while I do know a lot of things, I most likely will make mistakes that apply to here and not chatroom. And tbh... I don't really like RVS. Is there any real reason to do it besides for fun @IC/SE's? I feel like unless we get solid reads, it's better to wait on info regarding possible RLs and inspects. so yeah

@Wood-- If you get an avatar it will be much easier to follow you.
Hi, I’m Accountant, your friendly neighbourhood Inexperience-Challenged player, or IC. This means that I have a few games under my belt, so I know the ins and outs of mafia and can show you the ropes. For those of you who hate reading long rants, or have read a similar post already, check out the link: A Beginner’s Guide to Being Awesome At Mafia
Anyway, as the IC, it’s my job to teach you theory concepts, which means I will never lie about theory questions. Ever.
Before we start the game proper, I’d like to cover a few key concepts.
Hammering, Lynching and L-1
When the number of votes on a player exceeds half the number of players for that game, that player is lynched
instantly
and the Day ends. For example, we have 9 players. If that means the hammer is 5, so if there were to be 5 votes on someone, that player would be lynched. Do not recklessly hammer, especially early in the game, or you’ll risk accidentally lynching town members and cutting short discussion time.
The concept of L-X is used to indicate how many votes a player is to hammer. L-1 means 1 vote to hammer, L-2 means 2 votes to hammer and so forth. So for this game, if someone were to get 4 votes, they would be at L-1. When you place the vote that puts someone at L-1(for example, if someone has 3 votes and you’re putting the 4th vote down, with a hammer of 5), you should usually announce it with a statement like “He’s at L-1”, so people don’t accidentally hammer. Even more importantly, it means that mafia can’t hammer a town member and then claim ignorance the next day.
If someone is at L-1 and you want to hammer him, you should usually state “intent to hammer”, which means “I want to lynch you”. When you do this, you can also ask for a role claim. That way, if the player is a power role being mislynched, he can claim before you place the hammering vote, and thus save himself.
LyLo
LyLo is the shortened form of a phrase which means “lynch or lose”. The simplest form of LyLo is 3 players, 2 of whom are vanilla townies and the last being a mafia goon. Then, it’s easy to see that if they do not lynch, the mafia goon will kill one of them at night, stalemating the lynch the next day, and killing the last town member on Night 2 – although the mod will usually recognize this and end the game early instead of dragging it out.
When town is in LyLo, it’s important not to carelessly vote like you would on any other day, because of the potential for a mafia coordinated hammer(a “quickhammer”, happening before anyone else can react). Let’s say we have LyLo with 3 Vanilla Townies and 2 Mafia Goons. One of the vanilla townie carelessly puts his vote on another VT. This allows the two mafia goons to instantly rush in and simultaneously vote that VT, bringing his vote count to 3 in a game of 5 players, which is a hammer and loss for the town.
It’s good practice to try to recognize LyLo situations when you see them, but in Newbie games a more experienced player will usually point out that it’s LyLo and caution people from recklessly voting. Learning how to deal with LyLo is a very important part of playing mafia, and it comes up more often than you might think.
RVS
We are currently in the RVS, or Random Voting Stage. As none of us has any idea who is mafia(well, except the mafia members themselves, but they’re hardly going to admit it), we’re mostly poking around and slinging votes like hot curry at a food fight, trying to provoke reactions, start a discussion and basically probe around to try and determine player’s alignments.
As it is the
Random
Voting Stage, it’s common for players to vote for very silly reasons, such as “your avatar is ugly” or “your username has too many numbers in it”. Don’t worry, they don’t have a grudge against you or anything. It’s just part of RVS. Without RVS, it would be a lot harder to get the game moving.
Conclusion
Thank you for joining this newbie game, and I hope that all of us will have fun playing, win or lose. If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask me. I’m an IC, so it’s my job to be active and respond to questions from newer players. I live in Singapore, which makes my timezone GMT+8, so don’t be surprised if I answer in the middle of the night or appear to be inactive at high noon(I’m probably sleeping).
